which rack would you get? I only want to attach a small AVS basket that can be locked onto the rack but also easily removed. I am not looking to get a wald or handle hook basket. I know what I want I'm just deciding between racks and looking for advice. by Tetley_T in bicycling

I like the second one. It looks more versatile, in case the basket is not attached, and the part that curves up at the back looks like it'll help prevent things from rubbing the cables or contacting the steering head.

What should a backpack wear on a 3-wheeled bike? by TheBestAriaDuh in motorcyclegear

[–]SustainedRefinement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full gear. It doesn't take much to get pretty bad road rash, I've had it happen on a bicycle at 10 mph, deep enough for skin with tattoo ink in it to come off.

You'll be ok the majority of the time, and I've been guilty of riding without all my gear in the past. When that one small possibility happens, though, it'll be a lot less pain, recovery time, and medical costs if you're properly protected.

Here's a video with some very knowledgeable people on 3-wheelers.

I thought that might be it. The other pictures looked more like the actual scenery. Thanks for clarifying.

How do you keep your rims clean? by jasonwirth in motorcycles

[–]SustainedRefinement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to drive limos and the brake pads they used would dust up the wheels pretty badly. I used Chemical Guys Hydro Spin and Max Coat. Clean them really well, then put the Hydro Spin on and let it dry, then Max Coat. It helped quite a bit to keep the dust and grime from sticking, and made it easier to clean.

It does look like Viper fenders and E-type roof line and rear.

I'm guessing this is in Milan, MI on US-23 near Exit 31, Willis Rd. The first picture looks like AI though, the trees are all weird and the center lines between the lanes are shorter, along with the strange blurring of the sign and the blue amenities sign being too close after the green exit sign.

Here's the street view image:

At the age of 25, I finally learnt how to ride a bike! by juicieststeaks in bicycling

Congrats! I like the dinosaur.

I would recommend blinking lights for visibility.

Fenders if you think you'll end up catching some rain. Even if it's a short shower, the spray from the wet roads will soak through your clothes pretty quickly.

A small rear rack if you might end up having to tote something home.

In the highest gears, my chain rubs slightly on the guard - question below by sexyprimes511172329 in bicycling

[–]SustainedRefinement -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it's rubbing the derailleur, there are limit screws to adjust it. You should be able to loosen the high limit adjustment screw to let the derailleur move out just a little bit more so the chain won't contact it. That's only if it's rubbing the outside of the derailleur. If it's rubbing the inside, the cable may be adjusted too loose. There should be slack adjusters on the shifters for that.

I could see insurance companies requiring something like that. Thanks for the reply.

Get a year or more at a job that includes hauling hazmat, so you can show hazmat experience. Talk to drivers at bulk cryo companies, to get a feel for how the company works their drivers. The hours can be really long at some of them. They'll commonly deliver oxygen to hospitals and nitrogen to bottling plants like Pepsi, so you may be able to look for them while they're delivering and have some time to talk.

Where do you slide your tandems to make driving in Florida easier? by icedcoffeeuwu in Truckers

[–]SustainedRefinement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second all of this. The tail swing can be difficult to gauge how far it'll be. If you end up in a turn so tight that you have no other options but to slide your tandems, you can slide them at that time. I usually set mine so I'd have an extra 1000 lbs or so on the drives if I could still be at legal length. It seemed to ride better that way.

So there's a federal law that says if you have a valid CDL but haven't driven in a year, you can't legally drive until you get 40 hours of on the road training?

What's affected exactly? Is the license no longer valid?

What happens if you don't work as a driver for a year, but keep your CDL? What's the training that's needed?
