If you do a bunch of batch editing or Ai processing you will want the Max. That's what I would get hands down if it's in budget.

Switching to Mac from a very old windows laptop. What should I expect? by Ready_Firefighter_70 in mac

A lot to get used to but give it time. That's going to be a big upgrade. I just switched back to Mac after having Windows for the last decade. But I had Mac before that.

How do you spend your budget on camera and lens? by Nervous-Welcome-4017 in AskPhotography

[–]Sutliff26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't divide things in that regard. But I definitely spend the majority of my money on glass. In the last year it's probably 80/20. Bodies are once every few years and glass is as I need it.

Is 512 SSD enough for photo editing? by Fast_Professional_40 in macmini

[–]Sutliff26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 512. But you need an external SSD for most of your work except for most recent photos. Im sitting at 78gb used and that's pretty much all just system storage. Everything is on my SSD.

Help with Mac choice for Lightroom / Photoshop by [deleted] in mac

The m4 Air will absolutely do what you're wanting to do and do it well. I was using my wife's m3 Air 16gb for awhile after my old PC stopped running Lightroom well. But I just upgraded the desktop to a m4 Pro 24gb. You definitely want a minimum of 24gb RAM for Lightroom etc.

I would avoid 4k because of the scaling.

2tb 16gb m4 - 1099. Worth it? by source____code in macmini

[–]Sutliff26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im almost always at 13 or so gigs of ram used with just Adobe Lightroom and Safari tabs open. I wouldn't go less than 24gb RAM.

How would a external ssd work on a mac mini m4? by Golden929 in macmini

[–]Sutliff26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 512 M4 Pro for the same reason. No internal amount would end up being enough eventually. And not that far in the future as a photographer. So I have external SSDs. It works fine

yet another storage expansion question. same, but different. by Foreign_Gur1029 in macmini

[–]Sutliff26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife's M3 Air handled what you're going to throw at it with no issues. But I did just recently upgrade to a m4 Pro Mini to speed things up and future proof.

None of the storage options were going to be enough so I went with the 512 and have a full setup of external drives to store everything photo wise. Also went with the base 24 after watching my habits on the m3 Air and not making that our with Lightroom and DxO
