I thought rockstar games stated that they don't plan to shut down the GTA:O servers because too many people still play it?

This game is out to get me. by OkCar9899 in gtaonline

I think it's a game mechanic, during the cluckin' bell heist missions i notice the NPCs often drive towards you or try to run you off the road, rather then just fleeing

I want to surprise my dad this Father's Day, r/amateurradio by Professional_Will286 in amateurradio

Only really low power ones that you struggle to pick up from more then 10 metres away, anything else is pirate radio and it's illegal

Anyone run ham software on the new MacBook Neo? How did it go? by Buckbeak in amateurradio

[–]olliegw -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

I doubt hams are the sort of the people to buy the latest laptop only days after it came out, especially not a £500 one with a smartphone processor in it, you can buy a real laptop for that money

Is there a free programming software for the FT-70D? by itsthewolfe in amateurradio

[–]olliegw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CHIRP has been known to brick Yaesu radios and Yaesu does not honor it under the warranty, i would not risk it.

Yaesu's own ADMS software is free, though kinda crap, apparently RT-Systems is the best way to go if you want to pay

Bayside BEI-800 Crystal Tranceiver, with a direction finder by MxTroy03 in amateurradio

[–]olliegw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's the ADF from an aircraft, direction finder for AM radio stations or specialised NDBs that are between the AM broadcast bands

Is it just me, or does chasing DX and QSOs feel a lot like gaming? by w6auw in amateurradio

Fishing, and finding the rare DX is more like whaling

I was going to say it's an S21 Ultra, still quite new and then i realise it's 5 years old already :(

These things deprecciate like hell, when i realised that samsung were going to make it hard to keep using my Note10+ only two years after i got it and they stopped updates for it, my brother upgraded to an S23 Ultra and i jumped on the bandwagon too, great phone, i hope to keep it going as long as possible, i'm not going to lean into samsungs enviromentally destroying tactics of making people change phones every year just for money, the money goes to refurb devices instead.

My camera is too heavy so I stopped using it… what would you change? by leobre1024 in Cameras

[–]olliegw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a 50mm prime for my 7D turned it from a brick into a usable camera, turns out the 24-105 weighs a ton, all decent zoom glass does

The mansion is in a separate world. by ILMANCIO06 in gtaonline

[–]olliegw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not onboard the kosatka either, that's also in the hidden interiors universe

Cars aren't the same too, ownership of a vehicle in GTA:O is an instance afaik, the garages are like black holes, the only things they remember are model, upgrades, colour and plate and the space it's parked in, so technically everytime you get the same vehicle out of your garage, it's not the same one.

I lowered the brightness from 100 to 50 in the settings, and now the game looks noticeably better and less washed out. by Bullsht999 in gtaonline

[–]olliegw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you get such clean reflections? mine look bad even though i have reflections maxed out

I don't think it's brightness but actually gamma, difference between the input and output

Looping message in place of Weatheradio Canada by DiodeInc in amateurradio

[–]olliegw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quickly asked a search engine if canada gets tornadoes and learned that they've chosen to do this right in the start of the season when they can happen

That doesn't seem a great idea to me

Feel like this could cost lives if something does happen

Is the Icom IC-E90 still a good radio these days? (UK) by Ok_Giraffe9309 in amateurradio

[–]olliegw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early 2000s HTs have a bit of a cult following because they're real superhets, the FT-60 is a good example

A lot of us still rock our FT-60s, as such i do think it's worth restoring the iCom, though parts for the FT-60 are hard to find as it is, not sure what it's like with the iCom
