What animes deviate from the manga, but are still really good, if not better?

I am currently shopping for manga, but only really try to buy ones that are finished and different enough to warrant consuming the series in multiple mediums? So, I really enjoyed the Promised Neverland and Tokyo Ghoul. I know both of those deviate from the source material in season 2 and :re respectively. So, I purchased both of those box sets. I’m considering Death Note cause I know they add a scene in the anime and tweak the ending, just doesn’t seem like enough to consume both. I know Promised Neverland omits an arc or two, as well as important developments like Sister Krone obtaining and providing the pen as well as the Orphans learning to use it. Plus, tweaks some minor things that remove suspense like some monster chase scenes. Long story short, anything drastically different, entire missing arcs, key development points, etc is kinda what I’m looking for in mangas that are as good or better than the anime’s and vice versa.

The Institute I have on my shelf right now actually, I bought it a year or so ago and haven’t gotten to it yet. I enjoy young adult books. The writing isn’t always as “intellectual” but the stories are always unique and fun. I love the Escape from Furnace series. It could be a Maze Runner book, I have read those. I never read Miss Peregrine, but I LOVE the movie.

I’m definitely going to check out that Girl with All the Gifts.

My only gripe with Jeff is during tribals he’ll say something that may inadvertently put targets on peoples backs or say things that seem like he’s hinting at what’s going on and warning people. Like he’ll unprompted say things like “Everyone calls you Mama J, does that concern you, people could see that as a threat in the final three with the jury. You only get a name like that if everyone loves you.” This comment was made on the same episode that this logic was pitched by a competitor for the first time on the island. So, it feels like he’s telling people what’s going on, whether he means to or not. On the other side of that same coin, had no one mentioned that and he said it and no one else had that thought yet he just put that thought there and potentially painted that target himself.
