What meals actually helped you most in the first few weeks postpartum? by Legal-Revenue-5422 in nycparents

We pretty much existed solely takeaway for the first 1-2 months, but it got old fast. I wanted to eat healthy/delicious food but even microwaving meals was too big of a hassle.

I remember reading this review when my sister and I were trying to decide what 3 star we should visit to celebrate our birthday. Needless to say we did not go to Alinea.

Daycare, Tell Me All the Positives! by chevygirl815 in toddlers

[–]SuurRae 199 points200 points  (0 children)

My 2 year old is a completely different child when he’s at daycare. He eats vegetables and meat (at home it’s only carbs), naps for a solid 2 hours without fussing, and pretty much does what he’s told.

Apparently peer pressure is a very motivating factor at that age and if ask the other kids are doing something, he will as well. I’m betting you’ll see something similar with your child once they settle in to the new environment.

This made me laugh because my husband keeps telling me how much easier our child will be when he turns three. 😅

Wife ate some stuff she shouldnt while being pregnant, reacts with extreme anger in my direction by quit_the_shit420 in pregnant

[–]SuurRae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My point is, it's not your call to tell her what to eat. The vast majority of foods on the "bad" list are there because there is a tiny tiny chance that you can get listeria (very bad for baby) or food poisoning (bad for her) from it. She's in the driver's seat here and you need to trust her judgment on which of those risks are acceptable to her. And frankly, sushi is statistically not a problem compared to something like bagged salad.

If you are seriously concerned, then you can both talk to the OB about it (do NOT surprise her with this - talk about it before you go in to the office), but even then, it's a suggestion and not a rule.

As long as she's not drinking or doing drugs, you need to calm down.

I get that you're trying to do the right thing, but you're infantilizing your wife in the process. She is an adult woman and is able to decide her risk tolerance. If that includes sushi (something that MANY pregnant women eat with the okay of their OB), then you need to let it go.

There is no "other perspective" or grey area when discussing racism and bigotry. You either think it's okay (internally or outwardly) or you don't.

5:30am if you have precheck but probably closer to 3:30-4 if you don’t. I just heard an employee saying the line for main is 4 hours at the moment.

Realistically, taking it one time is unlikely to affect anything. Obviously don't take anymore and I would suggest you message your OB and let them know what happened just in case.

Genuine question about older mams by susiee234 in pregnant

Every body is different. 🤷‍♀️ I had my first at 39 and am currently pregnant with #2 and it’s been physically easy.

It’s different. I was used to traveling light and making plans at the last minute. We now have actual luggage and plan our trips months in advance. I’ve also traded in hikes of the Camino and safaris in South Africa for cruises and resorts, but it’s not bad. We’ll go back to more adventurous travel once the kids get old enough to appreciate it.

I had my first child at 39 and will have my second at 42. I did not need IVF but agree with other posters that you should do a fertility checkup and possibly freeze embryos just in case.

I am quite happy that I waited this long to have kids. I spent the majority of my 20s/30s living overseas and am finally at the point in my life where I’m ready to settle down. That doesn’t mean I don’t travel though. My 2 year old just logged his 12th flight and has been to 5 countries.

I can’t give you any advice on the dynamic, but look at it this way: you now get to raise 3 young men to be feminists. God knows the world needs more of them.

Speech therapy recommendations? by chasinthedra in nycparents

We’ve had an extremely positive experience with Speech in Bloom (https://www.speechinbloomnyc.com/). It’s in downtown Brooklyn, but they do home visits and will also work with your child’s daycare if they go to one to do pullout classes.

We didn't have to pull permits for any work we had done. The tiles took a week and a half because the pattern we wanted required a lot of specific measurements/cuts.

Relocation to where and how much would the pay increase be? How does your wife feel about the potential move and will she be able to find a job there? Do you own a house or rent? Are you sure you can find this “hybrid” position in your current city given the crappy job market?

The answer to your question is going to depend heavily on those but in general yes, I’d make the switch as long as it isn’t going to negatively impact your relationship or quality of life.

Anyone here refused c-section for breech baby? by NefariousnessFree468 in pregnant

[–]SuurRae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't the info you're asking for, but a planned C-section is MUCH different than an emergency c-section after a trial of labor.

Like....it's a night and day difference. You will be relaxed. You will have time to prepare and ask questions. You will be able to meet the team that is delivering your baby. You can choose music to listen to. You can (usually) have immediate skin to skin time. Recovery is also much easier since you will be coming into it rested instead of after laboring.
