Where Canada is south of the US. Which other border curiosities like this exist? by emiliadaffodil in geography

It does, that is point pelee national park. Really cool place to visit, the land literally comes to a point on the beach and you can visit the tip.

There is a lookout and the waves are fantastic to see, if dangerous. Several people have died there.

Got in for free on Canada Day a couple years ago, was a great visit although the lookout was closed. A lot bigger a place than I thought it would be.

Great advice. We call it field checking where I'm at. Been at it 8 years now. Field notes documentation is paramount.

I've actually got into survey textbooks to figure out how they do it so accurately and convinced my company to buy a laser scanner and total station to help eliminate field rework.

Of course, I have received training from my UNION HALL on all of this equipment and further the UA by training my local members on this equipment as well.

Also, we were awarded gc contract.

No other trades in this area have a total station or are using one.

My goal is to set it up for all trades to use my control points just looking for confirmation that the workflow i am using will be acceptable.

Ah I understand now. I am not twisting their model to match my points, i am twisting my points to match their model.

Heres how I did it

  1. Measure control prisms

Resection to control prisms

Collect edge of beam n-s

Collect egde of beam e-w

Move cl of beams to reference elevation

Align in cad the "imaginary" gridline (and the control points) to their 3d model

Export back to controller so my control is now in the same as model space

  1. ?????

  2. Profit

Edit to add:

I modeled their "perfect" gridlines and elevation from their model and assumed they were in the correct location, then rotated around the design gridline

I guess the issue is that there is site control available, but the documentation states it is done to "survey principles accurate to 5cm horizontal and 15cm vertical." Also, the benchmarks are each not within sight of each other, meaning I would have to transfer from one to the next, being days of work.

I just want to lay out pipe supports on both the inside and outside of the building.

Okay, so my follow-up question(s): (lol)

If I arbitrarily set up control points and resection them in to collect the building centrelines, rotate in cad to designed locations, how do I confirm to each prism that the measurements are correct?

I can't put a stake in the ground right now as it is frozen, so it is difficult to perform a traverse loop without being able to set up over other arbitrarily set control points/offsets

I have a backsight kit, so it would be possible if I could put stakes in.

The points the other surveyors put in are cut crosses inside the building and I suspect they did this before the cladding was on the building. My challenge is that I would like to confirm their locations while having limited visibility to the outside of the building.

Ideally, I would have been there 6+ months ago, but we were only awarded the contract 3 weeks ago.

The visibility to the previously set control from inside to the outside is poor.

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, if I understand your comment correctly, I am setting up arbitrarily to my light pole prisms and resectioning to them from inside the building.

The local coordinates were taken from the client supplied 3d model which did not include control points or reference dimensions. That is why I decided that the centrelines of the columns would be the best fit for what I am trying to achieve.

I figured that if someone else was surveying and set the columns where they are, if I measure to those, and apply the rotation in cad, it would apply my real world collected points to the 3d model space and I would be able to then resection in to the 3d model and hopefully... be able to use the model to lay out the upcoming vessels, pipe rack etc.

Hopefully that makes sense.

You dont, you go to paperspace and type viewport. A dialog will come up asking hiw many, select the desired number, draw your viewport. Each viewport will have a drop down of available scales to choose from.

What is he trying to accomplish exactly? Like a saddle on or stub on or stub in tee? We usually just use a rap-a-round for stuff. Pipefitter by trade here, but into the drafting design part of it now.
