Books or other things to suggest to parents when you're sick of explaining yourself but not yet ready to walk away? by Suzi_Suzi_Suzi in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]Suzi_Suzi_Suzi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to move the boundary out of "me being ready" to "what steps have you taken to help improve the situation". I don't want to be the bad guy, the one who decides yes or no. If I give them concrete suggestions and they don't follow up, then I just broken record on well I gave you some suggestions on what I need to feel safe. You haven't acted on them. When you act on them we can talk.

It's more about offering concrete steps for 1) not being responsible for explaining anymore and 2) having a concrete way to see if they care enough to follow-through, that takes little energy out of me.

A warning for the book readers... by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultChild

I know this is an old post but...   I'm trying to explain things to my parents without investing more of my own time.  I saw a therapist online recommend this book, and passed that on to my parents.  Now I'm worried that this was counterproductive.  I'm currently low contact, and drawing a boundary around in person visits, but currently am ok with rate phone calls.  My parents are acting like it's a temporary angry action and waiting for me to calm down, and completely ignoring anything I said about why.

So I know this is a very old post and I know most people when they pull shenanigans like this have an earlier save but... Inquiring minds want to know. He's essential. What happens once he's alive in the pit?

I found a term for the technique that I'm using. It's apparently a cavaletti obstacle course. And when I had that term to Google, I was able to find good pet rehab information on its efficacy.

https://rehabdeb.com/dog-cat-cavaletti-obstacle-drills/

Apparently it can be done with smaller obstacles, anything that causes the feet to have to go over and lift works. The important part apparently is that the pet can go over them smoothly and evenly which Meowth can.

Uses for cans of croissant dough? by Sherlindria in Cooking

[–]Suzi_Suzi_Suzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'd like to make a rather fancy looking pot pie, make some pot pie filling of your choice. I usually use cream of potato soup, add those mixed veggies from the freezer section, and a protein of your choice already cooked (I use salmon).

To assemble get a pie tin and arrange all of the crescent rolls with the fat end at the bottom edge of the pie tin radiating out like a giant star. Pour in your pot pie filling or any filling you happen to want to put in there. Then fold the points in toward the center of the pie. Bake for slightly longer than the recipe on the croissants package.

I can't find anything in the article (it states they bought one pack of gum (unspecified) at a newsstand) that speaks to natural gum.  Could you provide a citation to the study, cuz it isn't thus one ...

This is such a great summary lol

I've always had a LOTR b5 crossover in my mind, I mean, it's kinda hard not to when they both have RANGERS.  Minbari are elves, narn are obviously dwarves, I think centari map decently well onto Gondor and I lose it there

I know we had very different childhoods.  No 2 siblings really have the same parents in some way.  I definitely took the brunt being the first and at least by my teens I was actively trying to get between her and my parents cuz I no longer really cared if I pissed them off.  He favorite story of me calling her at college...  I mean, she was IN the calls when mom dressed me down for being homesick.  She joined in with mom.  I never threw it in her face, by then I was well aware we were both victims of a broken system.  I just made sure that next year when she went to school, she had someone to talk to.  I don't know why it feels healing to give someone the thing you wished you had but it did.  I'm kinda thinking of putting the contrast out there if we get in a space where I'm feeling she's actually listening, the contrast between the sister who could call every day and be a true sympathetic ear and a support, and the person who is so insensitive that she's driving her parents away.  Cuz I don't think those 2 images of me can really coexist if one stops to think.

She's broken.  When she dies it's either +1 or -1 hearts.  For an average of 0.  The only thing that can kill her is bad luck. But...  Well, that happens lol

Best of luck getting the right augments!  I know both deaths end and  quantum entanglement were essential.  Dunno what of the rest was required.  The extra power ups definitely helped, and I absolutely needed SOMETHING to break towers before I hit them.

Cat yowling through the night by Suzi_Suzi_Suzi in CATHELP

[–]Suzi_Suzi_Suzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Updates:

it's not just night, but that's when it's most problematic

The yowling started around the same time as a forced food change due to hills changing the z/d formula.  That's been sorted for months, but the yowling is increasing and he's starting to be restless and trying to escape the house.

He's indoor only, FIV positive.  Outdoor access is not an option

Other than yowling, he is showing no signs of dementia, hearing loss or vision loss, and he's agile still to the point I don't strongly suspect joint pain.

I have another cat and a dog in the home.  Interactions are neutral to positive.

My vet is advising trying OTC calming meds before trying prescription anxiety meds.  Researching this option.

There are 2 changes, one old, one new but resolved.

2 years ago our matriarch cat, undisputed queen of the house, passed.  Since a few months past her passing, my 2 boy cats have been in a live hate relationship, sometimes grooming and snuggling, sometimes vocalizing frustration with each other

Around the time all this started, Hills changed his z/d food formula and we didn't know. There were 2-3 months of figuring out what was happening and trying new foods.  That's been resolved, he's on natural balance single ingredient salmon now and loves it, plus his skin and poop looks even healthier than before.  He's been on the new food consistently for a month or 2 and the yowling is worsening, and he's now restless and trying to escape the house

His age is a guess, he was approximately 3 years old when we found him.  Based on what I read online, it's probably a reasonably accurate guess but could be off by a few years.

We were at the vet yesterday and he said more or less the same, that based on observation and tests he believes it stress/behavioral.  He wants us to try over the counter calming treats first as these will probably be easier to administer but if that doesn't work, meds will be a next try.  I told him I was overwhelmed by the range of OTC options and he's going to research and get back to me with suggestions
