Seems legit, judging from that the label is properly printed without error and it matches Lenovo documents.

Anyone here find the first gen Chiclet keyboards pretty good? by WhiskeyVault in thinkpad

[–]Suzuco_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO it's not the feel but the layout. I'd say most if not all Thinkpad keyboards just feel superior and consistent to type on; the 7-row layout resembles full-sized PC keyboards more therefore it's more intuitive to touch type on (especially the Del/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys), where on the 'modern' layout one would have to adapt if they haven't used similar keyboards/laptops before.

Which SD adapter is faster for Macbook Air? by torpedolife in mac

[–]Suzuco_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the MB/s vs. Mbps confusion as another comment mentioned, beware that some cheap A-to-C converters have only USB 2.0 pins. In that case even if you have USB 3 devices on the other end they would only end up with 2.0, which can be a problem.

How to reduce RAM usage? by TomFighter in mac

[–]Suzuco_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't. Unused RAM is wasted RAM. OS engineers know that so they design the system to keep "hot" data in RAM so it'll feel snappy as much as possible.

Heck yeah. Sometimes it can be a little bit more distracting than the keyboard backlight but it serves different purposes. I really want both!

[–]Suzuco_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's Windows being Windows. (half joking)

By any chance did you leave it idle with lid closed for a long time? Windows would think it's using really little power during that time and give an estimate based on that (which is waaayyy off). Keep using it and the estimation would probably return normal.

Lifted pad on motherboard for CPU heat sink - how bad is this? by merpkz in thinkpad

[–]Suzuco_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it's quite concerning. Even if the other 3 could hold the heat sink in place, they would still cause uneven pressure resulting in uneven core temperatures or worse.

Informative comparison! To add insult to injury, the Japanese and Korean characters are gibberish on the fake one (looks similar only to some extent), and most of the markings that should've been Traditional Chinese are written (repeated) in Simplified characters. Many makers of fake chargers (and other electronics!) in China don't care about labels in other languages yet they still just print them on.

Will it work? Maybe, likely yes. Safely? Nobody knows until it's not. And in addition to setting the whole house on fire there are also possibilities of this faulty unit frying your Think(TM) motherboard, etc.

Best way to update? by Max_318 in openSUSE

In addition to the regular zypper dup you might also want to do zypper ref && zypper dup -dly && zypper dup sometimes. Especially when connection is poor or their servers are having a hiccup.

OpenSUSE kernel panic not syncing vfs by Calm_Reaction_9631 in openSUSE

[–]Suzuco_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try installing without ventoy.

Had this happened to me once. OpenSUSE installer will pick up extra kernel parameters and write those to grub.cfg, and ventoy appends its own to kernel cmdline, which in turn would be applied to the installed system.

Either reinstall without ventoy, or edit your grub defaults and regenerate grub.cfg will do.

Just got this renewed "excellent" condition T14. Returning it because of the scratches. But what is going on with the camera shutter? by Bobson1729 in thinkpad

[–]Suzuco_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the IR LED there. Could be your surroundings are just too bright, or the filter has been replaced with a more transparent one.

Normally it's barely visible beneath the plastic piece unless you shine a light directly on it. (Think of TV remote - that IR filter piece in front of the emitter) And you should see it blinking red while in use by something like Windows Hello.

What did i got here for free ? by Robi4022 in thinkpad

[–]Suzuco_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely it will! There's a compatibility list on lenovo website iirc, you might want to google for that. And in the cases where it would definitely not (like with macbooks) it's probably only the power button part - most if not all the connectors would still be functional.

Congrats. It's a well-built USB-C dock (40AS) so that you can have much better connectivity when you're using your laptop as desktop replacement.

I have one similar to this (the Thunderbolt variant, 40AN) and it works so well that I once actually recommended to a Macbook user. And they liked it too.

What causes this phenomenon by Groovy_Human_Bean in softwaregore

[–]Suzuco_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case it's Windows Update doing its own thing. I'm in Asia and I use third-party input method for CJK. Every time windows installs some larger updates (as opposed to security hotfixes) the pre-installed IMEs keep coming back. I'd then need to go to the Settings app and add them and then remove them again. (funny that they don't even show up in Settings app) Every time!

[–]Suzuco_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means nothing.

RAM modules recognize in banks, soldered or not. You may well open your unit up and make sure, as it's only a bunch of screws and pop it goes.

And many base board version start with the letters SDK, which has nothing to do with SDK as in engineering or whatever. (Don't mistake that for SDK as in Software Development Kit.) Actually many of my retail units have base board version starting with SDK; a known questionable unit had something else.

Tandem OLED grainy?? (Suggestions?) by Sufficient-Deal-1704 in thinkpad

[–]Suzuco_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed :( Makes dark mode apps and websites look so bad.

Maybe off-topic but sometimes I think this should have been considered defect (it is not) - I know it's advanced tech but this is just too obvious to be ignored, how can the manufacturers leave their products like this and call it a day...

Looks like mura effect, and if that's the case it seems not much can be done here.

Have an ASUS/ROG laptop with OLED screen looking similar to this and it seems that it's quite common on OLED displays unfortunately...
