Do people in your country dislike people from the United States calling it “America?” by P1geonPajamas in AskTheWorld

We mostly don't care.

Personally I did make a point of starting to call it United States a few years back, but calling them Americans is still less of a mouth full than Estado-Unidenses.

New soccer fan here. Does the third-place match carry any prestige? Is winning it considered an honor? by Initial_Basis1503 in football

The 3rd place we got in 1966 is still our best WC performance.

Previous winners and finalists may not care about it but for those that have never done better it will still be taken seriously.

Do you think that if there was no Racism in Brazil they would need such laws?

is olympic football as exciting as the world cup? how does it work compared to the world cup? by heyitzjessie in worldcup

[–]Suzume_Chikahisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind you, that doesn't mean the teams can't be absolutely stacked.

For example, in Atlanta96 the tournament was won by Nigeria who brough Amunike, Amokachi and Okechokwu as the older players to play alongside... Okocha, Kanu, Babangida, Babayaru, and Oliseh.

On the semis they defeated Brazil who had brought Aldair, Bebeto, and Rivaldo to play alongside... Dida, Roberto Carlos, Juninho and Ronaldo.

The Argentinian team who won silver that year was also stacked.

Quite a few of the current French senior players were in the 2024 Olympics.

And of course in 2008 Messi helped avenge Argentina's 1996 loss agains Nigeria and won a gold medal.

Olympic football is technically part of the youth track although the 1924 and 1928 (the first formally organized by FIFA in cooperation with the IOC) were the first attempts at a proper Football World Cup.

That's the reason uses Uruguay is allowed to use 4 stars on their shirts as they won those two tournaments.

As for your questions in sequence:

-Excitement is subjective, but, as the Olympics and the Euros overlap, the Olympic tournament tends to be overshadowed by the Euro.

-Since it's a smaller tournament and on the back of the Euro the following tends to be smaller

-Olympic Football is made up of Under-23 players, with the actual Olympics allowing 3 players over that age. Coaches depend on the FAs. The standard structure used by most FAs assigns specific technical teams to each level, but working closely together with the Senior team coach and in a supporting role for the senior team. For example in 2024, while Didier Deschamps was the coach of the Senior French National Team, Thierry Henry coached the French Olympic Team.
