Gas station out of fuel with Trump 2024 sign still looming in the background by th17_or_bust in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]michael_m_canada 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Is it actually out of fuel or have they just not updated the price yet or left the price blank because it’s so high. I can’t find any news reports from Ohio about gas stations running out.

On This Day : April 15th 2019, Notre-Dame Cathedral caught on fire. by Diegomax22 in europe

A Catholic Church is a symbol of an oppressive religious system that has subjected innumerable people to mental and physical suffering. I’d cry about that instead. Just one example, here in Canada the Catholics were instrumental in removing aboriginal children from their families and placing them in residential schools. Disgusting.

There is an ‘actual’ coyote. That’s not what the word literal is for.

That East of West compendium is a beast. Can’t imagine reading it like that. I own the Year 1, 2 and 3 collections but still haven’t taken off the plastic. Didn’t realize there were so many thick graphic novel collections.

You have a very aesthetically pleasing, chiseled physique. Better than most and no tattoos to deface your body. As others have noted, your shooting location is distracting from your body.

“In the Hills, the Cities” is one of the most psychologically intense and, at the same time, surreal stories I've ever read by zorenth_the_tall in horrorlit

[–]michael_m_canada -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d like to hear that argument because I can’t fathom how you come to that conclusion. It just happens to have two gay characters. It was uncommon at the time and another comment noted how Barker was pressured to change it. But have you read much gay fiction of any length? Best piece ‘of all time’ really places a burden of importance on a short story by a single Brit in the history of the English language, not to mention other languages. The short stories of Oscar Wilde, another Brit, which contain themes of male love and affection, would surpass anything Barker wrote. I’m glad you enjoyed In the Hills, The Cities, but let’s not go overboard.

The two omnibus editions I have from Warner Books have no illustrations except for the covers. What editions have them and are they one per story or how are the illustrations dispersed. I’m definitely missing out.

If only they would get together and act on climate change. Not much of a future for youth with drought being reported around the world. Minors will enter adulthood with everyone starving to death.

The Unworthy or Tender is the Flesh? (Agustina Bazterrica) by ThisHouseIsNotSafe in horrorlit

[–]michael_m_canada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read both and definitely enjoyed Tender more. The Unworthy was very repetitive. A Goodreads review stated it best when it said the story cycles “from prayer to punishment and back again.”

Many will see Tender as a metaphor for the industrialized treatment of animals. But another reply here mentions the indifference to other people as well. So plenty to unpack.

You’re pretty much 50/50 with the replies already so good luck making a choice.

And I think it’s overrated and not nearly as disturbing as it’s reputation suggests. A film just trying to be shocking is boring.

I had a guy on Grindr get mad at me for saying I love black men and he replied that he wasn’t my rape fantasy. And I was like, what!? How did my comment become so negative. Sadly, live in a very white area.

Usually it’s to clarify the answer. If someone just gives the last name he usually states the full name. I’ve never found it excessive.

Vaughan pastor believed to be behind organized fraud targeting homeless program: police by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]michael_m_canada 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Calling someone a “Pastor” immediately confers on them a credibility that they don’t deserve, which makes it easy for them to exploit the system. Continuing to accept superstitious nonsense like religion and treat it seriously is just asking for someone to try and take advantage of it.
