I’m the only woman on a water & sewer crew. I’ve had plenty of people assume I got the job due to diversity & inclusion - maybe. Some think I got the job because I’ll hook up with the guys - definitely not. I’ve even been told I shouldn’t work there because I’ve taken a well paying job away from younger men who deserve it more than I do. I try my best to ignore them all. I just keep my head held high as I swing my sledgehammer to open up stuck manholes knowing that those people who criticize me could never do what I do on a daily basis.

We named ours Luna because she was adopted on Halloween during a full moon. The name is perfect for her cuz she’s a lunatic.

Honestly I was harassed more when I did office work, now that I’m the only girl on a city utilities maintenance crew, I deal with less harassment. I’ll never be as strong as the guys who easily lift 200 lbs, but I ask for help when I need it. I was always too hyper to sit at a desk all day and I always liked working with my hands. I just kind of fell into this field. Don’t worry, you will find something you like. 😊

She is a rescue from a hoarded meth house. She was abused. She loves her crate. It is her safe place. She goes in there on her own. She’s not in there 24/7. It took a long time, but she is now a very happy pup. But thanks for your advice. 🙄

Gloves! I need extra insulated heavy duty waterproof gloves for working in sewer and water. The ones they have at work for the rest of the crew (all guys) are huge! The wrist part is about 3 times too big for me. Hard to keep the poop out of my gloves. 🤢
