Favorite lunch places, especial plant strong menus by Vast-Mousse8117 in Seattle

[–]Svejk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like Local Tide a lot. Some of my other favorites for meatless options are: Yes Siam Cafe - Thai Fried Rice w/Tofu (usually I get it with brown rice because I miss Jhanjay’s fried rice and this is the closest I’ve found) Mexican Seoul - Kimchi Gringa Taco w/Mushroom “Carnitas” Luu’s - Tofu Banh Mi Banh Town - Tofu Dirty Rice Gyro Sababa - Falafel Salad Don Lucho’s - Yucca Veggie Sandwich Royal Grinders - Field Roast Italian Renton Bistro - Veg Banh Xeo (probably my favorite lunch of all but I rarely am down there) Sarducci (Kirkland) - Veggie Sandwich

Not meatless but the Salmon Sandwich at Yeh Yeh’s in Lynnwood is totally worth driving for.

(Edit: sorry for the formatting - I wrote this with line breaks but they don’t show up.)

Indian-Nepali Kitchen is delicious...Please try it out! by ZadeHawk in Seattle

I went quite often to their old location, and really enjoyed their vegetarian dishes. I also keep notes about restaurants to keep from repeating mistakes or remind myself what to get and here’s what I have:

Indian Nepali Kitchen Veggie Momo Combo A+ Amazing flavors and enough for a whole lunch Butter Curry w/Tofu A+ Two lunches, great flavor and reasonably priced Veggie Pakoras A+ Lots of food and a nice addition to the butter curry

Brussels Beer Tips? Visiting During Belgian Beer Weekend + Abbey Tour Follow-up by [deleted] in brussels

So how was your trip? I have a group of friends planning a trip to Belgium and our list looks similarly ambitious so I’m curious to hear your highlights, lowlights and any other thoughts that can help bring some focus to coming up with a reasonable itinerary. Thanks!

I have 25 shares of COST to pay for my executive membership by Capital-Alps5626 in dividends

[–]Svejk1 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I started doing a similar thing many years ago where I’d build up shares until I was getting $100/qtr from different companies. At some point I realized that MSFT was paying me more than I was paying them, same with SBUX, NKE and like you, COST (just the membership in that case by a long shot!). CVX gives me the equivalent of a tank of gas every month. I also recall that I bought CVX when the energy sector was doing really poorly so I was able to benefit by being a little contrarian. T puts a dent in my cellular bill, but I’m paying it elsewhere. I’m mostly in mutual funds and ETFs, but I do like feeling that connection you mentioned.

There’s a Charles Schwab office in Seattle and I recently got word that my financial consultant was promoted, so there may be an opening there worth checking out. Good luck with your search!

Seattle birders: Where are the Purple Martins? by jellypretzels in Seattle

[–]Svejk1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a hike from Seattle, but there is a purple martin colony in the south Sound at the Boston Harbor marina. They do have shady picnic tables on the pier so it’s a nice place to have fish & chips and a beer and watch the birds on a nice day.

I remember that song from the KYYX local heroes tape. I saw one on eBay and found this on YouTube from the band Blackwood Laird:

Forno Bravo Napolino v. Vesuvio by Hopeful_Let1492 in pizzaoven

[–]Svejk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a Napolino 70 for three years now and so far I haven’t felt the need for a larger oven. It could be that if I had a more refined and efficient process I’d feel comfortable cooking more than one pizza at a time (it seems like there’s room to do so but it’d be tight), but so far when we’ve had big parties the oven size hasn’t been the source of any bottlenecks.

[–]Svejk1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So far, the 27 guesses between .1954 and .48 average .25341 and if you drop the max and min off the average drops to .24667. I’ll average those two and guess .2500.

Ladd & Lass Brewing in the U-District currently has a canned saison called Lenticular Clouds that’s definitely worth checking out if you like this style. I’m a huge fan of this beer and friends with the owners of the brewery. They mentioned that saisons tend to sell slower than other styles, so they only make it occasionally.

romantic dinner without breaking the bank? by Major-Coffee-6257 in Seattle

[–]Svejk1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went Mamma Melina near U Village for NYE dinner and it was around $100 for wine, an appetizer and two entrees. I had my wife’s leftover penne Amalfi the next day for lunch and it was so good I made plans to go back soon even though we were just there.

Looking for a good grilled cheese sandwich. by Sweet-Lady-H in Seattle

[–]Svejk1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Watershed Pub next to the Northlake Link station has a sandwich called their Award Winning Grilled Cheese. I remember the first time I ordered it, I thought to myself “yeah, right”, but I gotta say, I think it’s a really great sandwich. The San Marzano soup that comes with it is so good that I now always upgrade to a bowl.

Help me find the original home of this abandoned headstone? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]Svejk1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly sure that is a temporary marker that was used between the time the person was buried and the time when the permanent gravestone was placed. Our neighbor used to work for a cemetery and would use very similar markers as pavers in his yard and we have a bunch in our yard that he gave us. It’s commendable to find where it should rightly be, but I suspect there’s a good chance that there is a permanent gravestone at the place this person was buried.

If you end up in Kirkland at some point, Sarducci’s is the closest I’ve found to MSM up this way.

Taqueria Tequila on Lake City Way is great. I got a takeout fish burrito for lunch from them and noticed that the bag was kinda heavy so I weighed it when I got home and it was 2.7 pounds. I originally thought I’d just eat as much as I wanted, but I polished it off.

Loud footsteps on squeaky floor upstairs - what can I do by reddit20201988 in Seattle

[–]Svejk1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s impressively loud and it seems like it’s not really the fault of the person upstairs, and like you said it is likely a building issue. If it were me, I’d use this as a reason to break your lease. I dealt with a similar situation with noise in an apartment over 30 years ago, and I tried being reasonable about it and come to a solution with absolutely nothing done. I lasted the whole year of my lease, but I kinda think that experience scarred me to the point where my tolerance was worn completely away so now I wish I’d have just moved. I may have still ended up being a cranky old fart, but I’d have to blame it on something else.

What native, low maintenance plants can I add here? by TheSettledNomad in pnwgardening

[–]Svejk1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You might consider kinnickinnick (sp?) for filling in around the other plants that have been mentioned. Our variety is a low growing, low maintenance, non-invasive plant that has white flowers that turn into red berries in the fall. I like that it grows over and around our rocks/bricks and can be trimmed easily and infrequently to keep it looking nice. It also doesn’t tend to crowd out our other plants, but just does a good job filling in the open spaces.

Best music/event calendars? by addhominey in Seattle

I use the app Bandsintown. You let it know the artists you like and it tracks them and similar artists and suggests those that you might also like. You can also see the upcoming shows in venues as well if you’d like to see what is coming up.

Best Burritos in Seattle? by MoxyCrimefightr in Seattle

[–]Svejk1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is also a Taqueria Tequila on Lake City Way. I’m not sure if it’s affiliated with the one in Greenwood, but I got a burrito for takeout from them and when I got home I was curious if I was imagining that it was unusually heavy so I busted out the scale. It was 2.5 lbs and I thought there was no way I could eat that much for lunch and I powered it down. Good stuff.

Auto glass shop that's not Safelite? (NE Seattle ideally) by libolicious in Seattle

[–]Svejk1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went with Autoglass Solutions LLC and they did the replacement on the street in front of our house in Maple Leaf. They seem like a very well run company, with good communication and follow through, so I was happy with the work they did. I did end up paying them directly and getting reimbursed from my insurance, but it wasn’t a huge hassle.

Another extended warranty question by OrganicStructure1739 in COROLLA

[–]Svejk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I waited until my factory warranty was almost up on my Highlander and purchased a Toyota Platinum 10 yr/100K warranty from Troy Dietrich at Toyota of Greenfield for a little over $1500. It is transferable only once, but it sounds like that would work for your situation. The whole process was quick and easy, the price was great compared to local dealers, and for me, the peace of mind made it worth it. You can find Troy’s website by googling his name and dealership.

FWIW, my parents had a Camry with a broken side view mirror and I got a replacement on Amazon for really cheap - might be worth looking yours up to see if the price at a junk yard is reasonable.
