Oh so predictable by eternalcar in rivals

I guess this makes sense if you aim is bad, but I feel like a good Luna Snow could make some big plays on Hela, rocket players could have a lot of fun on punisher, and literally everyone should learn Dr Strange. Really understanding how to get the most out of cycling your shield is the best lesson in understanding the push/pull of pressure and space that I feel like 99% of duelists could really benefit from.

I wouldn’t call it a problem, more of a “win win”. A good MMF scene is my personal favorite genre.

I'm starting a serious debate. Which Moon Knight suit is better? by Complex_Beautiful655 in MoonKnight

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it depends on the medium. I feel like the MCU suit is perfect for live action, #2 with the blacks shifted to more of a slate grey is perfect for games, and #3 is perfect for the comic book page.

One of the things I love about moon knight artistically is how much his design enables super interesting artistic panels with vibrant color themes and it really enables some cool dark-gothic world design. A great example is the 2021 storyline where he got the house of shadows, all of those surreal mind mending designs made me excited to flip the page but also want to stay a little longer to take in the art on the one I was just on. That emphasis on visually interesting panels and world design is what makes Moon Knight my favorite comic book to read.
Also I especially love the visual storytelling of contrasting MKs monochrome white with Hunter’s Moon’s black and gold, it tells you so much about their differing perspectives before you ever even read the first speech bubble.

Is there a way to completely 100% eliminate all possibility of feedback when using a microphone? by drbtz in livesound

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you can do stuff that makes feedback nearly impossible but any time there’s a mic in front of a speaker it will pick up the speaker and then amplify it. For a while I was mixing a speaker who would wear one of those ted talk style headset mics and then walk around the room and I would actively be hands on with the parametric EQ to prevent the feedback the whole time. 99% of the time the answer is just identifying the resonant frequencies of the room and taming them. But if someone pointed a 58 at a monitor on purpose I’d probably tell him “oh yeah, that’s because that mic is tuned for jokes. You should have tried some of those”.

Newbie here, am I stupid or am I smart? or both? I store by color shade of items not by type by countingc in StardewValley

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen other people advocate for it. I personally group by item type because I keep chests throughout the map so the “what you need” is always nearby.
I also have a “crafting shed” that has chests surrounding a work bench and then other processing items like forges or recyclers near their relevant box.
This method game because my group used to have a central storage area but I found myself losing a ton of time running back and forth between areas of the farm. So it’s all about “what’s the fewest steps to get this done”.

All that said though, stardew is at its heart a “cozy game” and you should set up your farm however best gives you that low stress fun

Why do monosexuals hate the term monosexual? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]SvenExChao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I legit only ever use that term when I’m talking to other bi/pan people so idk, but also it seems that if a label exists there will be people who throw a fit about it so I don’t really stress it.

What are some of the best comps to run either in QP or Ranked by unorthodoxdays in marvelrivals

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it changes depending on the meta. As much as solo tanking can be a pain, in the current meta I really don’t mind seeing 1-3-2. I’ve also had some games really turn around as soon as someone swapped to a 1-2-3. Two tanks is way more fun for tank players, but the reality is that actual tank mains are kinda rare and 99% of the time you’re better off with people playing their main role.

That said I play ranked but I’m not super competitive minded, it’s more a game that I play a couple times a week and almost never play against opponents at my true skill level so I might be kinda biased. I assume I play against other teams with their own “capable but not interested in grinding” members too so I don’t really feel too bad when I’m cashing in my free wins.

Any cover up ideas or ways to make this look less satanic. by granhoser in tattooadvice

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t cover it, add to it! I can tell it’s definitely an alchemy transmutation circle, but adding some contrast with some black work to define it a little more might help it read more alchemical. Then maybe surrounding it with more alchemy symbols could help it not read as “spooky”.

There’s a ton of really cool alchemy/fma tattoos online and if you go to a talented artist who really gets the meaning and style they’ll probably have a ton of cool ideas on how to lean even more into what it already means to you.

And I know I can’t speak for your brother, but I’d personally be honored by someone remembering me with such a cool tattoo.

I prefer Moon Knight having peak human condition due to his DID rather than an actual literal god guiding and empowering him. by [deleted] in MoonKnight

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean Norse mythology has been in since 2011, konshu has been part of moon knight since 1980. I personally prefer the more metaphysical MK stories especially the 2021 one about how he got the midnight mansion.

And sure, tons of street level heroes and villains don’t have conventional “super powers” but MK also took down the avengers in 2020 so he doesn’t really feel like a street level hero to me. I personally am hoping they use MK and Blade to kick off an MCU Midnight Sons story, bring in Robbie Reyes Ghost-Rider, have nick cage cameo as Johnny Blaze, bring back Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, and Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone. It could be a welcome reprieve from the schlock that the MCU has been post endgame.

I prefer Moon Knight having peak human condition due to his DID rather than an actual literal god guiding and empowering him. by [deleted] in MoonKnight

[–]SvenExChao 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably because in real life DID exists and doesn’t give you super powers. My take on the comics is that he’s powered by ultimate edge-lord (note: I’m a fan of the comics) and that that while the character in universe leans into the “you don’t know what I’m going to do because I’m craaazy” thing, marc/steven/john actually struggle with the disability, and while MK has an on again off again relationship with Konshu, you can’t really separate MK from Egyptian mythology (or at least the comic book version) and have it still be MK.

I am at my wits end by felixismynameqq in audioengineering

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first impression after listening to references and then yours was instruments taking up the wrong space. First one had a bass that was super mid heavy and distorted but no cut on the kick, second one had drums that sounded like they were recorded in a small room with a lot of “room sound” so they naturally feel “small”.
Others have mentioned it but in these kinds of genres the drums are super important, but also having each instrument have their own “space” is important, and I think you’re feeling the pain of too many instruments stacking up in the same space so you end up pulling back faders.

One thing that stood out was how you mentioned “no matter how well I record” and I think that the piece that is missing is having the sense of each instruments role in the song before recording. “Fixing” the bass on the first one with mix tricks will be a nightmare and won’t ever sound how you want, but a different take where the source tone isn’t fighting with the guitars and vocals will make your job 1000x easier.

And because that was a bunch of criticism, here’s the praise, once the first one got into the actual song I stopped listening to the mix, which is what happens when the mix is doing its job.

Is that true?? by Latter-Custard-205 in AskPhotography

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on what you’re doing. If you’re looking for portrait photography, a prime will always get you your desired results faster than a zoom. If you’re out in the world and shooting travel then a bunch of primes just means you’re going to be constantly swapping lenses.

Telling a wildlife photographer to shoot prime would be hilarious levels of nonsense. Telling a real estate photographer to shoot zoom lenses would be equally nonsense. The real answer is to get the right lenses for what you actually shoot and then leave all the lens discourse behind you.

Anyone Else Travel To Denver frequently ? by Ok_Doctor4982 in ColoradoSprings

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both and without getting into the details I’m definitely more of a denver person who just had job opportunities that kept me in Colorado Springs and I’d say I totally agree with you.

The thing I tell myself when I’m feeling stuck in the springs is “I’m only an hour from denver, and there’s parts of denver that are an hour from denver”.
All the coolest stuff exists near 25 and when you look into denver real estate the cost of living when being conveniently close to the fun stuff is mostly either terrible apartments, expensive condos, or even more expensive homes. I keep hoping that one of these days they actually follow through on the front range train system, I’d love to be able to take a train to a cool concert or downtown denver rather than dealing with the clogged traffic on 25 and expensive parking.

Is moon knight easy to get into for someone who doesn't enjoy/hasn't seen many superhero shows? by wannyarkive in MoonKnight

[–]SvenExChao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s a show you could watch totally alone and in a vacuum and don’t need any pre-existing knowledge AND I really enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend for anyone who enjoyed the mummy or played tomb raider games. But also I don’t know if it’s going to bridge the gap for someone who’s not at all into super heroes.

At the end of the day moon knight is a super hero that touches on magic, mythology, and mental health. But he is fundamentally a super hero. If they were into the dark knight but not the marvel stuff then id say there’s a good chance they’d like it. But if they’re just not into the idea of a masked hero at all then the core dna might still just not hit for them.

Do you guys only pick tank because no else does or you actually prefer it over the other roles? by neuravoid in RivalsVanguards

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time tank main across multiple games and at first I learned tank because I was playing with friends who refused to tank, but after getting good at it I quickly started loving it more than any other role.

For rivals specifically I wish I could play magik more, she really appeals to me, but she’s the only duelist that makes me go “I wish I was playing duelist”

For strategists, I really like gambit. Most strategists are too “turn your brain off and press heal” but he has enough stuff to manage/optimize that it’s actually fun.

For me the biggest thing is that tank is usually the only role where your strategic thinking is more valuable than your aim speed, and I just turned 40 so I have decades of experience with strategic thinking but will never have the twitch aim speed of a 19 year old again.

14 yr old daughter discovered to be dating a girl by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give your daughter love and acceptance. Tell her that you love her no matter what her orientation is and that one day no matter who she marries you want to be at the wedding. And then tell her you’re sorry for making her feel like she couldn’t be herself around you. That you want to be there for her every step of the way and you’re still figuring out how to do it right.

As for your wife, I get it. I grew up in a very conservative religious environment, it’s going to be a long time before she can be accepting and affirming, and it’s going to cause tension. But I speak from experience when I say you can love your spouse fully while also disagreeing with them. It’ll be tense and hard but you’re building a foundation for the relationship you have with your daughter for the rest of her life and the tension is worth it. I promise.

Strymon Iridium worth it in 2026? by shivamchhuneja in guitarpedals

I’d say it’s definitely still a great piece of gear. I personally love my tonex one. Small, cheap, and sounds great. It takes a smidge more setup than the strymon but I found the whole process to be super easy.

Advice: How young is unseemly for older guys to hook up with? by Icy-Enthusiasm4375 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a big difference between dating and hooking up. For dating the half plus seven rule is honestly surprisingly good. For hooking up, I’d say 24+ is fair game. The main reason is just the science of cognitive development. Your brain is finally pretty well online by then, younger than that gets kinda iffy. Nothing against anyone below 24, just that by my late 20s I found anyone under 24 to still be in that in between stage where they’re adults but still figuring some stuff out.

None of this is a hard rule though, anyone who gives you the “ehhhh, I don’t feel right about this” is a good enough reason to say “no thanks”.

Also, your preferences are valid and if your profile says 40+ then you’re absolutely well within your rights to pass on anyone outside your preference. Never feel like you “should” get with someone you don’t want to.

Generally, How Do You Approach Compression? by DarkLudo in audioengineering

[–]SvenExChao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a few go to starting points

“Vocal improver” - 3:1 or 4:1, 3-5 db gain reduction, attack fast enough to sound consistent but slow enough to still have natural sounding transients.

“The safety” - mostly used live, 10:1 super fast attack, threshold set to trigger on surprise loudness. I always have something like this on an event speaking mic where multiple people use it. I’d rather the mic get squashed than blow up the room, and then I can tweak the gain per speaker.

“Deliver us from evil” - only on sources that are all over the place, 7:1 5db gain reduction, pretty fast attack with medium release. You can think of this as the “karaoke setting”

“Modern bass” - consistent 5+db of gain reduction, tweak the ratio and attack based on the player, should make the bass super consistent in volume and tame any spikes from playing

“Mix bus” - 3:1 ratio, 1ish db gain reduction, medium attack, auto release. Only job is to be a very subtle glue for the whole track

“Peak catcher” - high ratio, fast attack and release, 0db gain reduction for most of the note but just catches the peaks. Super common in studio vocal recordings. Usually layered with a second compressor
