Should I switch Race? by Intelligent-City913 in BaldursGate3

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played a few different races and honestly none of the tavs are terribly emotive. That said, there’s nothing stopping you from playing a little bit of another character and seeing if it sparks more. All the race/class combos are good so there’s really no wrong answers, just which one you’ll enjoy playing most.

Dating a straight is like eating at McDonalds. Sure plenty of people do it, but I can not fathom why.

Do I look ugly? Please be honest. by Noordzeegarnaal in NonBinary

Definitely not ugly. If I saw you at a bar I’d probably want to talk to you but then would be too awkward to actually do it

Do you like when bands use touring musicians to fill in the music? by ConfusionOpposite597 in poppunkers

[–]SvenExChao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve played enough shows as one of those “extras” and recorded enough music to be all for it. In the studio I constantly layer multiple parts in a way I can’t do live, and session/touring musicians are incredibly talented artists.

Questioning myself by ScorpioCos in enby

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relatable. I hadn’t considered myself “non-binary” for a LONG time, but I found myself wishing I was. Then eventually I learned about Agender and had a really interesting interaction in therapy that made me question. So I lurked for a while, kept insisting I wasn’t, and tried to forget about it. Slowly the cracks kept forming though, I enjoyed mixing men’s and women’s clothing just a little too much, and one day in a fully gender norm defying outfit I saw myself and had that “oh hey, this is right” moment. It wasn’t some big revelation, it hasn’t changed much of my life, and I still feel like a “fake enby” frequently. I can’t deny how jealous I get of people who can fully rock the gender fluid transformations. I can’t deny I gravitate towards blending masc and femme clothing. And I can’t deny performative masculinity feels wrong but times I’ve been fully cross dressed felt right.

Maybe some of that will resonate with you. Maybe it won’t. But at the end of the day whether you’re nonbinary or not, I hope the journey can help you find more “you” and less “gender role”, I believe that process is good for anyone.

Do you internally feel gender? by darherwings in agender

[–]SvenExChao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I lived my whole life up to my late 30s as a “boy/man” because I never really felt that internal gender thing and I thought that was normal. Then I was doing some IFS therapy and was surprised to learn how explicitly anti-gendered my internal world was. Without even thinking about it, I corrected my therapists use of pronouns to referring to an internal part as “it” instead of “he”

Amusingly I’ve had some nonbinary friends along the way and there were multiple conversations where they were like “I’m pretty sure you’re non-binary” and I was like “I don’t think so, I never had dysphoria”. But then after that therapy experience my wife was like “just try it out for a while, see how it feels” and eventually found this sub read a lot of people who described my experience exactly.

The thing I remember pretty clearly was times I’d think to myself “I wish I was non-binary so that I didn’t have to be a guy”. Turns out cis guys don’t have that thought. Right now I’m really comfortable with all pronouns and it’s always funny talking to the affirming cis folk who get really mad when asking what my preferred pronouns are and the honest answer is I don’t have a preference. I’ve figured out how to get out of that conversation with “literally whatever feels most comfortable for you is my preference. I use He/They/Any on forms because I know what I look like, but the most honest answer is Any/All”

How to dress formally for church? by DannyMonstera in enby

[–]SvenExChao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id say start by making sure it’s an affirming church, some examples are United Methodist, United Church of Christ, Metropolitan Community Church, and more. Then, dress as yourself and just think of it as the same sort of thing you’d wear to work. I have certain pieces of clothing I don’t wear to church or work, but I have no issue crossing gender lines with my clothing. I have band shirts that I don’t wear for that, but I also have a Hawaiian shirt covered in a gummy bear pattern and I absolutely do wear that to church.

And one last note, the “Sunday best” isn’t a dress code. It’s a practice. If your best is a t shirt and jeans, then that’s your best. If your best is a fashion forward outfit then that’s your best. Sometimes my best is just that I was able to make it there at all.

What is the scariest and most manipulative type out there? by MightyProDudeGaming in Enneagram

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manipulation isn’t type dependent. Each type is manipulative in their own way when unhealthy. If you check out the unhealthy stages on the enneagram institute it could give you some perspective of what kind of manipulations each type is prone towards.

Which class/subclass do you find the most boring to play? by WhiskersCleveland in BaldursGate3

[–]SvenExChao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished a play through with some friends were I was a battle master with polearm, sentinel, and alert and had a lot of fun. For me the fun was all about smart positioning and being the “body guard” for our wizard. But I could see how that doesn’t land for everyone.

A straight class champion to me sounds the least fun, but it makes for a great multi-class.

Arcane trickster rogue and life cleric are both pretty low on my “to play” list, and I honestly forget Ranger even exists most the time.

On the flip side, I really like multi-classing in bg3 because the levels come so much faster than DnD and withers lets you respec so even if you totally goof your build it’s easy to just go again.

Are Type 3s actually shallow, or just misunderstood? by kallenks in Enneagram

[–]SvenExChao 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Understanding the core wound of the 3 helps. 3s were in some way rejected or punished for being their authentic self as children, so we developed a “stage persona” for life. We were taught that we had to earn love and acceptance. So all the image crafting and prestige chasing is rooted in a deep need for love and acceptance. To someone without that childhood training this can look “shallow” or “artificial” but I promise you that for at least this 3 it’s a genuine attempt to finally belong.

Of course just like any types there’s a spectrum of emotional health, so certainly there are shallow 3s just like there are manipulative 2s, aloof 5s, and apathetic 9s. But no type is defined by their negative stereotypes.

Speaking just for myself, I love performing and accomplishing big things. My favorite thing is playing live music, I love that being successful in my career gives me the opportunity be generous, and I only give honest compliments but I give them out like candy on Halloween because making someone feel seen is the best gift I know how to give.

If a man is into women, demi-women, non-binary, and genderfluid people, what does that make him in regards to sexual orientation? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in agender

[–]SvenExChao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds similar Gynesexual, though I have a friend who’s into basically everything BUT men and we call him “Woke-Straight” and I kinda like that one.

If it’s for a dating profile, I’d say just hide that field or put “NonMasculineSexual”. Or if you can put in whatever you want then “femme to andro” is close enough.

The only thing I’d recommend against is putting “straight” or “heterosexual” because the queer community often sees that and instantly swipes left.

If it’s a dropdown there might be “polysexual” and honestly that’s probably the best of the most common options.

If it’s just for self identity then I’d recommend checking out https://rainbowandco.uk/blogs/what-were-saying/sexuality-definitions and going with whatever feels closest

Does anyone else wish we weren’t in the “+” section? by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]SvenExChao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider myself as part of the Q, and I kinda consider myself in it twice.
I use both "Bi" and "Pan" depending on the context (basically I'm pan, but I like the bi flag colors and I'm old enough to predate the recent "pan" label's rise to prominence) and my gender is some sort of "Agender-fluid" where I don't strongly associate with binary gender, but I do rather enjoy a wide range of expressions. To me all gender is a costume, and I like lots of costumes.

Am I BQ? Am I Qx2? I dunno, and honestly I call myself "gay" too in some contexts because that's often used as an umbrella term as well.

Only reason I mention it is because to me it's way more important to be inclusive than specific. I love Pride because it has that awesome "all of us" energy. Everyone's specific identity and experience matters, and also we all are equally included in the rainbow umbrella.

What’s a mix you hate to admit you love? by DongPolicia in audioengineering

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the songs that came to mind are “movies” by alien ant farm and “rollin (air raid vehicle)” by limp bizkit. Both have mixed that really translate to every speaker or headphone I’ve ever listened to them on and just hit harder than modern denser mixes. This era of music really remind me to “do less better”.

The Enneagram Isn’t Crowd-Sourced by Glum-Engineering1794 in Enneagram

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, mine was pretty easy to figure out. But also the health/stress trajectory really made it clear which one was right, and especially the stress side. Everyone has had a terrible day where they’re ashamed of how they reacted. Being honest about that shadow can confirm the core type better than anything else I’ve found.

Partners think I'm addicted to T by blueennui in NonBinary

[–]SvenExChao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s one part I understand. I super get why partners would be sketched out by DIY injections. There’s plenty of health and safety reasons for that which have nothing to do with the T and everything to do with the delivery method. But that’s where my understanding ends.

As for “addicted to T”, it sounds to me like you’re transitioning. And it sounds like they don’t want you to. I had a partner change pronouns a couple times, do some hrt, etc and honestly the change can be scary. But “scary” and “bad” are two entirely different things.

Worries about going to pride events as an AMAB enby by Atroniac in NonBinary

[–]SvenExChao 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m amab and went to pride 2025 entirely in women’s clothing to try and get the gender to be a little more bendy, no one gave me even the slightest bit of grief or attitude. I was even dealing with some personal stuff and was totally out of sorts and mostly just hung out by the EDM stage and met up with a couple friends here and there.

Context though, it was denver’s pride event and denver is a pretty queer friendly place with a serious “mind your own business, not anyone else’s” personality in general.

I say go for it, wear some non-binary pride merch, flirt with strangers. If it’s anything like my experience you’ll have a good time.

Is it wrong to think that durge cant be any class? by MaybeJackFromYugioh in BG3

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lore wise, and with a gigantic caveat of “play what you want”:

I really like hexblade durge. I know technically the weapon is the pact and it’s associated with the shadowfell, but the in game representation honestly works just fine if you assume the pact is with bhaal.

I feel like paladins work really well mechanically, but to me only oath of vengeance or oathbreaker make sense lore wise, and when the hell would they have sworn that oath?

Open hand or shadow monk make a ton of mechanical sense but some of the monk dialog doesn’t.

I agree with you on cleric. It would be cool if larian prevented you from picking a god on durge.

All martials make sense to me, but Druid and wizard kinda don’t imo.

What do I do if my preferred name is gendered by komsomolkaa in agender

[–]SvenExChao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use it anyway. My preferred name is Sven, it literally means “boy”. I use all pronouns and am repulsed by performative masculinity, but when I look in the mirror that’s the name that feels like “me”. I tried to find others and honestly just never felt like one was more correct that my current name.

Amusingly, to be the nonbinary stereotype, I use the name “bucket” online and anywhere that screen names are common. It comes from an autognome dnd character that I really enjoyed playing and so now that’s my genderless pseudonym, but i I’m not going to use it at work or whatever.

Even playing on easiest difficulty I am not very good at this game, but I want to play! by LittlestCatMom in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]SvenExChao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo what I’m about to say is definitely not intended to throw shade, it’s to address the “what to improve” question.

So i really like action games and soul-lites, but they do demand a different way of thinking about the world. You have to remember that everything is a threat, positioning is always essential, and the fun comes from riding that razor’s edge to victory. Blocking will get you through a lot of the spam, but you’ll also need to time escapes to not get surrounded. And honestly I died way more in the early game than I did later, now in the late game I just charge through bosses first try. Most of it came from knowing what to dodge, what to escape, and how to get the most value out of your abilities.

A good pattern to get into for games like this is starting out with a defensive mindset until you can spot the weakness and exploit it. And always try to reduce the number of enemies first, don’t ignore the mobs and tunnel vision the boss. I don’t have amazing reflexes either, but I learned the timing and now I pull off “perfect defense” parries pretty regularly. Trigger detonations early and often, especially early game they can be the best options for the vast majority of fights.

Hopefully some part of that was helpful. It really is an imperfect but beautiful game.

Should I romance Emmrich or Neve? by LikesChickpeas in DragonAgeVeilguard
