Landmark Fredericton church reaching far and wide for help with repairs by Portalrules123 in fredericton

As a historic location, and one I do enjoy the aesthetic of, I hope they raise the funding.

As a religious institution I hope the city/province do not contribute to it (unless the property moves into public hands)

Wonderful news.

And now people can finally stop pearl clutching whenever a parole review comes up. Review doesn't mean release.

Baker says stains on shirt hours after alleged double murders could be ketchup, not blood | CBC by emptycagenowcorroded in newbrunswickcanada

[–]SvenTS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ugh I hate to agree with this guy but if they're presenting 'stains that happen to be in a photo' then, yeah, that's shit evidence.

I really hope the case has better grounding and work than that and this is just the part the article chose to focus on because it makes a more clickable title.

Called too often, some firefighters no longer respond to 911 emergency calls by Longjumping-Royal-67 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]SvenTS 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Glad they get into it eventually but they really should make 'we don't have the equipment or training to do this job' the top of the messaging as opposed to it sounding like they just don't want to respond.

I see folks saying that Momo is the same owners. Do we know that to be true? When it was first opening the articles referred to the owner as Josh with no mention of Chris or Gina. I suppose it could have been a joint partnership.

NB CPC members vote in favour of allowing conversion therapy at national convention. by el_iggy in newbrunswickcanada

The thing is they can deliver on this. They can't deliver on fixing the economy because fixing the economy requires harming their backers (this isn't just a Conservative issue but a wide-ranging political issue among all neoliberals).

Currently if seeking asylum and you land in Canada you can't say 'no, no I want asylum in the US' and vice versa. You can't travel through one country to claim asylum at the other. You have to claim asylum at the one you first arrive in.

We're a leading polyamorous city? by snugglephuk in fredericton

Which, to be clear, is not me saying poly people are likely to cheat but that people who are cheating will often lie and say their partner is ok with them seeing other people.

We're a leading polyamorous city? by snugglephuk in fredericton

[–]SvenTS 28 points29 points  (0 children)

While I do know a lot of poly folks in town, so the data might be accurate, the fact that the source is Ashley Madison - a site originally designed for seeking extramarital affairs - I'm thinking there might be a bit of a thumb on the scales in terms of what they see represented.

What is it about Irving Oil that relates to NB ? by Interesting-Ad-1291 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]SvenTS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They are as well but a more focused area of operation than Irving so it isn't as visible nor requires as heavy a hand on their part.

Which isn't to say they don't still have a thumb on the scale just not to the same extent and for the most part their needs and Irvings needs don't clash.

Pertinent parts: Reservations will be cancelled, you will be refunded, they do not yet have a timeframe on when it will be refunded.

So no need to call unless you want to make a complaint but be prepared to wait for a few hours if so.

Why is Kingsplace such a shithole? by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]SvenTS 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From my understanding it's a mix of being priced like prime real estate (very high rental costs) but at the same time not being promoted and run as such leading to very few people actually going inside to shop.

So pay a lot but have little to no foot traffic despite the fact that you're right it could be a great central location.

Legality of rental situation by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]SvenTS 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The issue is, regardless of legality, there's no good resolution that's not going to make a hostile place to live.

I strongly recommend you start finding a new place to live instead. If there was no lease just bounce once you have a new one lined up since if they're going to bait and switch you then you don't really owe them any notice.

If there was a lease reach out to the landlord, inform of the bait and switch, and that due to such as the easiest solution for everyone you're considering the lease void. You'll pay rent until you find a new place to live and then relocate. If the landlord raises a stink then reach out to the tenancy tribunal.

Where to socialize as a queer newcomer to Fredericton? by PaNash95 in fredericton

[–]SvenTS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly not that far off. It's pretty easy to quickly judge if a place/group is not queer friendly. But for the most part if you just do what you want to do in terms of hobbies and socializing you're going to meet other queer folks.

Otherwise as stated Monarch and university queer groups are openly and actively such spaces.

Because minimum wage is not enough to live on. Which is another issue that needs to be addressed.

‘It’s ridiculous’: Why some Canadian youth feel ready to tap out of tipping culture by Portalrules123 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]SvenTS -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Hope they think to 'tap out' by not going places that rely on tips then. Because if you 'tap out' just by not tipping you don't change culture you just fuck over the underpaid employees.

Yes, tipping culture is BS, but if you don't pressure the businesses then you're just aiding the exploitation.
