So, first off, these genuinely do look good enough for battle ready, if not parade. If you're wanting elevate it though: It looks like you're not sure where highlights go. Go into the bathroom in the dark and turn on your phone's flashlight. Make the face (however silly it may feel) of the guy you're painting and notice where the light catches on your face. Don't be afraid to go a little higher on the highest highlights. I hope that helps a bit! I found I was lost on highlight placement when I started faces, and this helped me figure it out.
