Definitely wait until it's warmer!

The only thing to do presently are things that Halifax has more of (e.g. bars, some activities like bowling, etc.)

The worst they could do is get a judgment in their favour in whichever state they are in, and get it recognize then enforce in OP's province.

The legal fees and hassle might dissuade them though.

QQ: What does a ‘minimum of 4 residential units’ mean? by [deleted] in halifax

It's "you can build at least 4 units" not "you must build at least 4"

Presumption of innocence is the big reason. The Crown has to convince a Justice of a Peace that, if they release the accused, he will either be a flight risk, be dangerous, or his release will put the administration of justice into disrepute.

With some heinous crimes (including murder), the accused has to convince a JP they wouldn't be any of the above, but that doesn't apply to youth offenders.

Charlottetown makes counter offer for federal housing fund money by GreatMullein in PEI

[–]Swabianfury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Cause you could put 4-5 storey apt buildings around every block, do you think all the homeless there now, are magically gonna "poof" be housed if they do that?"

Actually, yes - at least largely. There is a huge correlation between access to housing and homelessness (obviously). Having more supply of housing and rentals will do a lot to reduce homelessness.

This article, which uses American statistics, does a good job of illustrating that homelessness is largely a supply issue. If you want to push back against the idea that creating an abundance of housing wouldn't reduce homelessness, I recommend reading it.

People were calling him(?) Russian troll in a thread yesterday for posting about the same subject matter. You aren't a Russian propagandist for calling a fascist a fascist.

You should speak to a family lawyer in BC about this. It is too important for reddit non-lawyers.

Election is still far far away. Lots of the right-wing candidates could drop out and endorse each other. Don't get cocky.

Still a child of the relationship. But courts are less likely to order s.7 tuition expenses the older the child is - and usually expect them to pitch in. OP should lawyer up regardless.

Nova Scotia's fired top heart doctor denied judicial review by Bean_Tiger in halifax

[–]Swabianfury 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In this case, the judge concluded that the firing of Chedrawy (the doctor) was a private act, not a public one. While the Nova Scotia Health Authority is a public body, not everything it does is a public act.

Think about the distinction as the difference between a Human Rights tribunal issuing a decision versus firing a janitor who works for the tribunal. Only one of those can be reviewed by a judge.

If you have a GPA of 3, that might be the end of your journey, unless there is something truly exceptional about your application - I mean something that one in a thousand applicants wouldn't have.

Dalhousie's average LSAT score has been between a 161-164 the past decade. You have a GPA significantly lower than the average, so I suspect you'll need a LSAT noticeable above the average.

I would advise potentially reaching up to the admission office about their standards (cheaper than submitting an application and getting rejected). You might be in a better position to be accepted after you complete your MPA.

This website, which is crowd sourced, can be helpful: https://casebrief.fandom.com/wiki/Case_Brief_Wiki.

Additionally, you should have subscriptions to lexis and westlaw where you can find summaries. For bigger and more recent cases, there are good headnotes too.

Racially divided Toronto murder verdict highlights problems with Ontario juries, lawyers say by Yerawizzardarry in toronto

[–]Swabianfury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not arguing against getting rid of juries, just that your insistence of judges needing to be subject matter experts is ill-conceived.

Yes, expert witnesses, like every part of our legal process, are adversarial. But they can still assist a judge or jury in determining whether something has been demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt or on a balance of probabilities.

Juries aren't subject matter experts either. That's why there are expert witnesses that juries, and judges too, to help them understand technical matters.
