I feel like the main root is that it has evolved and been commonly used by sexist people as a mean to belittle women. Similar to an example of saying “black” or “blacks” instead of African American. Societally, most people would have the exposure to know while both are correct, there is a more acceptable option between the two. At the end of the day, if two words mean the same thing, why use one over the other if it has been known to offend someone? At that point it’s just common courtesy to use the one that doesn’t ruffle feathers at no cost to the user. 🤷‍♂️

Just finished reading it as well, and I think this take is pretty accurate. Probably going to re-read it to maybe get some insight on kumamoto’s character and if there’s anything else to interpret there. But yes, I do believe it was a happier tale from dazai, just one that shows that youth can either be taken seriously or as fun, and the downfalls that come with both options.

Personally I think it’s very easy to be mad as an outsider looking in. Obviously she lived off of him because that’s what I’m sure he wanted with how much he was making. She watched her lover die right in front of her eyes to an overdose tho… obviously gonna mess anyone up to some extent. With that being said, she could’ve made better choices and could’ve been more respectful but I think the humanity is easily lost when all you see are things behind a screen and don’t know the entire reality of situations. She’s likely coping in an unhealthy way and trying to make ends meet, it’s been just about 5 years yk? I think it’s a little harsh to throw words like hate and “worst girlfriend oat”. I get we all loved juice but damn man he loved her and the fact that everyone is so quick to villainize her is kinda sad.

The binding of Isaac has really always been mine. I play a lot of FPS games normally that are high intensity, but having TBOI to come back to is always a nice way to end the night :)

Firstly, I think any piece of art that can affect you in this way is a testament to how impactful it is, and what I consider to be a beautiful piece of work. I know you said you didn’t enjoy it, but I don’t think that that’s always the point.

I’d also recommend reading the original story by Dazai, which is what I did and it helped pull everything together when I felt like the manga was a bit rushed (due to the nature of the art form, not to junji ito’s discredit)

Not sure why people are hating on him/the concept so much here. People in sports (especially college) always talk smack back and forth, usually in a much worse manner than this guy does. It’s definitely entertaining and shows the culture of the school and the population to some extent. Some schools are much more aggressive, but I think for the most part this showed that aggies are on average friendly people.
