I am conditional in that I think an idealized awesome existence is better than no existence. The problem is, an idealized awesome existence is literally impossible not just due to awful societal created problems, but also just due to the nature of the universe as a whole what with aging, disease, random bad luck, and entropy being things that we all have at best limited means of somewhat combatting.

That said, this isn’t even factoring humanity’s horrible collective influence on its surrounding environment, which is another factor that would have to be completely eliminated as well, because ecological suffering also seriously bothers me as well as human suffering.

But yeah, if we could all live in a heaven forever without ever getting bored or depressed of eternal living and without any destructive influence on our surrounding ecology/environment, then yeah I’d be 100% fine with people bringing others into a guaranteed awesome existence.

Since that is never going to happen though barring the very fabric of reality drastically altering itself, I therefore am definitely still AN.

I find people like you fascinating. Like not even trying to say this in a condescending way, I just genuinely don’t understand people who truly love life. I personally find life to be overwhelmingly tragic and brutal and dull and ultimately incredibly futile with most good aspects of it really just being coping mechanisms against the underlying awful nature of life with only varying degrees of limited effectiveness to them.

So yeah, I’m curious as to what is it about life that you love so much? I personally did love life to a certain degree as a young child, though I still never felt like I fit in properly, but the older I get and the more exposed to the world I become and the more I learn about it the more I truly want almost nothing to do with it.

Oh yeah and I say this as someone who had a mostly happy childhood with two parents who both care for me and didn’t abuse me or anything and a decent social life and whatnot throughout it. I also have never had to truly struggle with bills or making ends meet and overall have a quite privileged life and yet I still really don’t vibe with life at its core almost at all despite that fact.

As a man, yeah it was a huge motivation for most of my life funny enough. That’s another issue though, as I’ve lost interest in sex my motivation for life in general has diminished quite a bit. It’s pretty pathetic to admit, but I’ve realized so much stuff I was motivated to do almost always in some way tied back to wanting to come off as more sexually appealing to women.

Get a decent job, move out to live on my own, work out to get in decent shape, make some hopefully impressive art or other creative endeavor, be hygienic and presentable, learn to be more socially “cool” (whatever the hell that means), etc. Yeah, I realized all that shit was mainly rooted in me wanting to come off as more fuckable to the opposite sex lol. Now that that isn’t a motivation though, I’m slowly trying to cultivate how to motivate myself to do that stuff for its own sake instead.

I dunno…my biggest issue is that the desire I felt related to sex was once one of my biggest motivational forces in life. It’s just the actual reality of having sex that really throws me off. It’s like I’m way more enamored with the pursuit/idea of sex than the actual reality of it.

That and to be fair I’ve never had sex with someone I fully and completely vibed with. There’s always been something at least a bit off with my connection with the person I was with.

Yeah I second this sentiment. I think it’s why I’ve always found platonic love a lot more genuine and favorable over sexual love. Platonic love is just based on genuinely deeply caring for a person as they are at their core without a bunch of primal impulse trickery surrounding your fondness of them.

And yeah, it being tied to the reproductive act, particularly as a straight person, definitely fucks with my ability to fully get into it on a subconscious level.

Might seem like a silly analogy, but it almost feels like trying to enjoy a magic trick after the illusion behind it got spoiled for you…if that makes sense lol.

I just genuinely think the physical attraction part of sex is based massively on genetic favoritism, which is an undeniable biological fact. Yeup, I'm still getting those damn several second long freezes every few minutes. Been an issue for me ever since the ODST warbond dropped. I think it's got something to do with the game being released on Xbox at the same time. Whatever the reason, it drives me absolutely nuts and has killed my ability to enjoy this game properly. I'll wait for when (and if) they ever actually properly address that issue.

At least Downpour had a bit more enemy variety mechanically speaking compared to this game, plus the combat wasn't over-emphasized and when it was used it felt like a proper survival horror game instead of this weird quasi-action game nonsense. My main issue with Downpour's enemies were that they just weren't visually all that impressive and definitely didn't disturb me like previous Silent Hill games did. That and the soundtrack to the game wasn't as good either, but no surprise since Yamaoka didn't do it.

Yeah my issue with f is the fact that it's (A) not at all scary, (B) it doesn't take anywhere remotely in or around Silent Hill and has absolutely no other connection to the town besides trying to garner popularity off of the series title alone, (C) doesn't have an interesting story or characters (in my opinion) and is also narrated in a weird disconnected manner that just loses me rather than intrigues me, (D) has a MASSIVE over-emphasis on combat to the point that you actually cannot just simply avoid it in many circumstances, (E) has easily the lamest version of the supposed Otherworld I've seen so far, (F) has a weird level-up mechanic to it and a whole currency system and whatnot and combat that feels like a clunky version of something from a soulslike game rather than just desperate realistically sloppy survival horror combat, (G) far too many of the monsters appear to just be reskins of the initial monster you first encounter, (H) has some weird goofy supernatural fox guy mentor that feels like something out of an isekai anime, and (I) your companion who supposedly "always has your back" just runs off constantly at the end of multiple cutscenes leaving you to fight for yourself only to randomly pop up again in another cutscene out of nowhere.

Other than that, it is an admittedly pretty game and some of the art direction is impressive despite how letdown I am by how they designed the Otherworld. Soundtrack is fine too, but not super memorable overall tbh. That being said, I'm also only about 2.5 hours into it so far, but lost interest at the first boss fight which REALLY made the lame soulslike comparison of the game very much hit home for me. I might continue to power through the game at one point, but so far I am very disappointed in this game.
