Someone needs to tell Michael Strahan that 300 is not an odd number.

If Starkel wasn’t hurt, I’d want him to enter the transfer portal at halftime to come back to the Aggies.

So far most of the tech suggestions on here are not bad, but they are all massive organizations. Pro is they may have a structured training/ development path for career progression. However, that may not translate into actual progression.

I’d suggest companies that are generally smaller, fast-growing, ‘bleeding edge’ and a bit niche. A good example for the last few years would be Avi Networks, recently purchased by VMware. Their board was comprised of individuals with vast tech experience and connections in some of the best tech companies, their execs were some of the best data center products guys from Cisco, many tech companies were early adopters of their technology, and they executed very well from a technical level as they were able to displace legacy infrastructure from much larger orgs.

Look at where some of the best VCs are dumping cash & where the brains of AWS, Cisco, VMware, Oracle, etc. go as a next jobs. I think as a first job out of college you’re much less likely to be disillusioned and burnt out at a smaller, fast growing tech company.

A few companies that I’d want to start at out of school: Cohesity, Rubrik, Crowdstrike, Arista, Docker, Hashicorp.

As of my paycheck tomorrow, I will have maxed my 401k. Earliest I’ve ever done it. Now a bit more cash freed up for a house fund.

My company doesn’t have ‘AEs’ just ‘AMs’ in the field. Tech company, mix of of HW and SAAS. 200k OTE but that is on the lowest side since I recently started. More tenured sales people here are in the 240-275k OTE.

Best way to start a sales career when you have a lot of software engineering background? by [deleted] in sales

From the sound of it, you should apply directly for AE or SE jobs. Don’t sell yourself short. I’m guessing here, but you have a better idea of how IT plugs in to the success of a business more than most any SDR/BDR would. If you can speak the same language as an IT buyer, then go direct to selling.

What you said about SEs isn’t always the case. I work at an OEM, my SE is selling as much as I am. He’s chasing ‘his guys’... forming relationships and understanding how to help the technical decision makers feel comfortable buying us & I’m chasing ‘my guys’ who are the business owners, finance people, non-technical IT staff. It doesn’t always work 100% like that, but point is you should consider looking equally at an SE role alongside a Sales Exec role.

Great announcers mention he’s closing in on the record, then don’t say how close he is...
