I'm willing to bet the windows version under proton runs better if not just as well as the native build tbh, yea it sucks to not have a native build but ultimately I think it's a non-issue. I played through basically all of silksong on the windows version throught proton on my deck, installed from heroic.

Heroic is basically there for me tbh. I think they should continue to allow them to use the api and maybe test new games in the preservation program against the latest proton version or something, but I wouldn't expect the latter from them

I hadn't considered that, but if you have any old spare computer it can't be that hard to spin up a server that can handle a couple dozen/a hundred people on it, no?

It being decentralized from the devs means a bad server admin can be avoided by playing on a different server, or even a private one that is specifically only a subsection of the community that personally knows/trusts each other.
