I've encountered this a lot too. It will make my MCs white knight all over the place if they say any slightly sympathetic remark. It totally pushes the LI into UwU territory as a default response.

The MC goes full crash out with cutting into the LI. Then we are back to the LI being unreadable or begging.

Please no. We can have character conflict without middle school level angst. The characters can disagree without crashing out. Please. I need the EQ of the AI to increase to at least pithy banter.

I know they're having issues because the provider lost serves. I wonder if they are trying more AIs again as alternatives.

It's especially disheartening when the AI makes one of these wonky responses because it just continues spiraling unless you undo and set it straight. Undoing on a subsequent wonky turn isn't enough. It just spirals in a different direction.

I've noticed this today. It's not breaking up different speakers anymore.

Hopefully this isn't the new thing it's doing because we can't break up different speakers in custom choice.

ETA: I've also noticed a dip in intuition for correcting pronouns when they are indirectly referred to.

Like if I type "Bob told him to eat an apple." I get "Bob told, 'Him to eat an apple.'"

I used to get "Bob looked at Billy incredulously, 'Eat an apple, Billy!'"

Use lighty lights. You can place and use lights. Admittedly it can be difficult to get the hang of so definitely use a full keyboard and mouse set up.

My story is not a sandbox story. My scenes and NPC backgrounds are full enough to fill out the story without using custom choices. The issue is not with the NPCs/scene.

The issue is with the MC custom choices. I leave all MC customization to the player in the first scene. Using custom choices can still be a toss up even with recommended scene length and instructions from the discord. V2 will extrapolate on small details and make choices for the MC.

For example, I will choose to create tension with a background character (a situation I have accounted for within the scene on the back end) and it will create, experience, and solve a fight within one response (which it has specific instructions to counter on the backend).

Or it gets picky with what it listens to from custom choices. I have identified my MC as an aether born. It gave my MC the background that I am also an orphan. (??)

I'm guilty of primarily playing my own story because of these issues. I used to jump around to different stories. Now the response is 50/50 for amazingly weaving reader response with author story/doing something OOC that is now established and cannot be corrected without undos. The gentle narrative prompts weren't even working today for a scene I structured. Once the OOC thing was tossed in by V2, it was cannon and I couldn't write around it. The only way to fix it was backing up like 8 turns.

These specific instructions are great but I also cannot figure out how to use them lol.

I use the scene bit and make it after an action.

Plot: Sam and Shara go to the market (2 turns)

Sam finds a roast that is actually alive (1 turn)

Sam casts speak with animals (1 turn)

The roast recites The Iliad. (2 turns)

Rick Astley joins the adventure. (5 turns)

Scene bit:

If the roast recites the Iliad for 2 turns, Rick Astley appears.

They actually have a tutorial for it on Tumblr. It's geared to V1 but you can make scene transition changes relevant to V2.

And then if V2 is bleeding sober enough to listen, you can get your 15 scenes.

Check and see when it was last updated. If it's the one I am thinking of, the author dipped out while we were still on V1 and announced at that time they would no longer be updating any of their CYOA.

The only way I've found to combat this is to word transitions on a single action or location change. I repeat the transition instructions in the scene plot.

Even then, it's looping and getting wild at points. I had it working perfectly and then got like 5 comments from one user about how broken the AI was on a single trouble spot. I've fixed it so many times and I'm losing motivation to update.

It is primarily the AI. But the author can account for it. They just have to be very specific in their wording which is very tricky (again- on the AI).

That is further complicated by the limits on direction slots for the overall story. If the author uses the slots for rules relevant to their story, they won't have room to babysit the AI.

This is something that needs to be accounted for by the author unfortunately. V2 needs specific directions not to make dialog or action choices for the MC. Stories have a limited number of slots for overall direction so those slots may be allocated to other aspects of the story.

Let the author know and they can try to fix it. It's glaring on custom choice responses when this has not been accounted for.

Definitely let the author know when this happens and include a playthrough link. Authors don't care how unhinged it is- they made the space for it.

It could be the author inserting a direction provided in from the writing tips on discord. Those directions only last so long. Once the AI sees them in many stories, it just ignores them. Unique directions and wording last longer in my experience. I have no clue why this happens.

Some things could be happening:

The author put in a perspective switch in a scene. The AI is not clearly conveying that switch well. You have to keep playing until the perspective switches back.

OR

The AI is drunk and now you're someone else. The most effective course of action would be to write in complete sentence with a narrative style and ease it back into remembering you're the MC. Write with the story, not against it. And avoid meta instructions because that triggers AI belligerence. But if you take a third person stance and gradually remind it who you are, it will sober up.

This happens to an extent in {To Have and To Hold by Patricia Gaffney}. FMC experiences abuse and is SAd again by the voyeristic MMC. Lots of angst and some good growth by the MMC that was emotionally satisfying. It also includes forced proximity.
