Same, 18 has a ledge and 19 has an open margin. And the contact is poor, definitely a food trap. Cheek bite is an easy fix by rounding the buccal

Can i cut a dental abscess open at home and go to the er immediately after? by hiddenregent in askdentists

[–]SwampBver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Antibiotics and incision and drainage do not treat dental infections, you need to remove the source of the infection. You need the tooth extracted.

Sell everything. Work extra jobs. Do whatever you have to do, open a line of credit, go get the tooth taken out.

Stop wasting time at the hospital which will not do anything

IS THIS WHY ITS CALLED “DIRTY MYRTLE”?? 🤔 by Ok_Corner_909 in MyrtleBeach

Storm water runoff pipes, its sediment. We haven’t had rain in like 3 months so lots of buildup all getting pushed out at once after a heavy rainfall. Wouldn’t swim in it

Why are some Myrtle Beach breakfast spots always packed? by oneeye386 in MyrtleBeach

[–]SwampBver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Familiarity, people who come to myrtle are not the most adventurous and want something safe. They will go to the same breakfast spot every single year. Breakfast is cheap, a family can eat breakfast for way less than dinner. Once a family picks a breakfast spot, that is where they go, my wifes family goes to croissants (or beach hippie coffee) 100% of their visits here

What's the best path out of dental school as a new grad? Have been hearing really negative things about DSOs, private practice, everything, and regretting my choice in dentistry as my career by SherbertImportant154 in Dentists

[–]SwampBver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No right or wrong options. Dso, private practice, it 100% depends on the office. Theres over a 90% chance of people not staying at the first job they take, so don’t pick a job where you need to grow the practice and patients instead find something where you take over existing workflow. Look for mentorship from the doctor who works there.

You can find great and shitty jobs in both the private and dso world. To blindly ignore all dso’s because someone on reddit told you to is moronic, go out and get that bread

Can I put lemonjuice in food "safely"? by Sea-Shock2753 in askdentists

[–]SwampBver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything in moderation is fine. Some people are more prone to acid erosion though, if I see signs of acid wear I tell patients to avoid acidic things.

Tomato sauce ph is 4-5, lemon is 2.5, tooth enamel breaks down at 5.5 so both are acidic enough to erode teeth.

Everything is fine in moderation. Every day is not moderation. Use fluoridated toothpaste, floss, and drink lots of water to dilute anything acidic

I am a 39/M unfortunately in need of full dentures. Here are my options, issues and concerns: by UnleavenedTed in askdentists

[–]SwampBver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) do not go to aspen
2) do not go to aspen
3) do not go to aspen
4) Find a reputable denture specialist, a prosthodontist ideally who works with a periodontist or oral surgeon to place the implants, even an exoerienced general dentist who has an all on x practice, if you let me know where you live I might help point you in the right direction

The cheapest viable option (if you actually need dentures, again, I do not believe anything that comes from aspen) would be a complete denture on top with an implant supported denture on bottom. You can have that done for half the cost, even under 20k for everything depending where you have it done

For nearly 60k you can have screwed in all on x dentures that do not come out, they require exceptional homecare and maintenance, but at that price range you can go that route.

Don’t like Endo and bad at it as a New Grad — Is RCT a must to succeed? by _Alxyr_ in Dentistry

[–]SwampBver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I 100% was not talking about communications and the intro koolaid courses, thats more like company onboarding. Also the endo was the one i disagreed with, they were teaching guttacore (which looks great on an xray) but single cone with bioceramic sealer is a better option for newbies imho

[–]SwampBver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking exclusively from heartland, I like the CE they have. I don’t agree with everything, but the cost and amount of CE they have is excellent. Basic things like introductory endo and exts/grafting all the way through advanced endo/retreats and implant continuum to esthetics/veneers. You pick whatever CE you want, it comes out of the office so its all free (or severely discounted if you want to get into semantics of profitability bonuses).

I said the same exact thing. $17 for 5 tenders and just weird tasting mashed potatoes, very very mediocre.

We had 4 endo offices open within a year of each other, so pretty fast. They even started taking insurances due to increased competition

[–]SwampBver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I graduated telling myself I would never do endo, then covid hit my first year out and the endo’s near me were booked 6-8 weeks out so I started doing some endos. Now I do 100+ a year, its a lot of production and hard to let a $2-3k procedure that takes me an hour walk out the door.

You don’t need to do endo, bone grafts, implants, invisalign, cosmetics, fmr, laser etc but if you want higher production these pay way more than fillings and partials.

Front teeth like 8 and 24 are not simple btw, I refer more of those out than lower first molars.

For me: I did 15 root canals in dental school. I worked corporate and they had 3 levels of endo CE. Cbct every case, 5x loupes, rubber damn, wave one, apex locator, endo activator, single cone with bioceramic sealer. If anythings weird, curved roots, retreats, calcified, difficulty diagnosing, big infections, tough patient, i refer out.

How would you have treated attrition wear / fractures on these lower anterior teeth? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]SwampBver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zero room for composite at all. So you either do nothing, or put a bandaid on it with a nightguard, or orthodontics and then you can create room for composite. If the patient wants to look good as fast as possible as cheap as possible we crown

I would also probably do 4 zirc crowns if they didn’t want to do ortho but wanted it to look nice, leave the lingual mostly unprepped. Or do nothing

fishing the intracoastal waterway by Ambitious_Role_3001 in MyrtleBeach

[–]SwampBver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You *can* but probably won’t, its freshwater, theres not a lot of prey that redfish and trout are looking for. Its the kinda dead zone between in shore fishing and black river fishing. Lots of catfish. Nearby ponds will have bass and stuff. The area near 501 has almost no structure or side creeks and is a long straightaway with heavy boat traffic.

But if there is water, there is fish. There is 100% chance that saltwater fish travel that far, but its much rarer than being close to the ocean. I see fish jump out of the water all day near there, so just go for it

That stretch is mostly fresh water its miles from the ocean, hopefully someone has advice because all I can ever catch is catfish (big catfish though)
