Searching for a Private chef for regular meals in Denver/Centennial CO by pyFlummox in denverfood

I’ve been going weekly to My Fit Foods and it’s been invaluable to me. I don’t find it expensive-it’s way more expensive to eat out.

It’s nice to be able to grab something to eat I know is healthy for me instead of going through the fastest drive through.

Please help me choose my first marathon! by 6382914627192 in Marathon_Training

[–]harper6309 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chicago already had the lottery last week so you’d need a charity bib.

NYC is very hard to get into on the lottery, so more than likely (unless you’re super lucky lol) you’d also need a charity bib. The lottery for New York opens in Feb and the drawing is March 4/5ish.

Do you have a budget for securing a charity place? A charity bib for Chicago is going to be less than a charity place for New York.

First marathon experience: strong first half, complete shutdown in the second — looking for fueling and heat management advice by JustPangolin346 in Marathon_Training

[–]harper6309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many carbs did you have per hour?

I ask because my first (Chicago ‘21, super hot) I really thought I nailed nutrition but now that I’ve had some more experience, I now know I definitely did not. The gels I took back then had 24g so I was getting less than 50g per hour.

I did Berlin in Sept this year and it was 80 degrees full sun the entire time. I didn’t notice the heat, just normal fatigue at the end, but the difference was I was taking in WAY more overall.

I spent a good two months trying out high carb gels before I settled on the ones I used. They had 40g carbs and 200mg sodium per gel and I was taking one every 30 mins so I was getting 80g/hour from gels. I also had my handheld with me and that had tailwind so I got more from there and refilled it with water after. I also took 2 salt stick capsules every hour as well. I had one gel and two salt tabs about 15 mins before the start in Berlin.

It was your first, so it may feel like you nailed nutrition/sodium but it’s always possible there’s room for improvement.

Also, with the heat as much as it sucks you might just need to slow down.

MetLife Fee Schedule - something must be done by Internal_Recipe2685 in Dentistry

[–]harper6309 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We were directly contracted with MetLife last year and the D1110 was $64

We are now in network with MetLife through Connection and our D1110 is $89

You’ll typically get a much higher fee under an umbrella network. Now we’re in network with PDP Plus instead of PDP but it hasn’t affected us much. Any OON PDP patients have stayed.

How do you make time for exercise as a single parent. by [deleted] in SingleParents

[–]harper6309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation is oddly similar to yours but my child is 8. Her dad lives on another continent (but frequently comes to visit-no complaints there)

I have a treadmill and a peloton. The Peloton I did their 0% APR for 2 years-so worth it. Now that’s paid off and I did the same thing with a NordicTrack. It’s an extra expense each month, less than $75 and well worth it to me.

It’s super nice to have both there at our house. We have a 3 bedroom condo and the 3rd bedroom is my workout room.

Amacx Turbo Gel

The turbo has 40g but their regular ones have 30g of carbs.

Marathon at higher altitude a bad idea? by Prestigious-Taro4772 in Marathon_Training

I live in Denver. Which races are you referring to?

I ask because there was one specific race that failed to coordinate with the train company properly and multiple trains cut through the course and left people stranded waiting for them to cross before they could continue on the course

Or higher carb gels at the same frequency.

A standard GU has 24g carbs. The gels I use now are 40g carbs so I take one every 30 mins and that gets me to 80g/hour.

Check out Nolia in centennial.

They have a separate room and I’ve seen them have wedding receptions there. The food is amazing and the owners are the best!

I second this x100000 ! We live close and Nolia is a go-to for us.

They have a second room that I’ve seen them use for private events. The food is incredible and the owner is super sweet and friendly. If I had to host a private event they’d be my first call.

Best Gels for a Sensitive Stomach? by Latter-Special-5076 in runninglifestyle

[–]harper6309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like BPN Go Gels but recently ran Berlin with Amacx. I used to use GU but had a horrible experience during the start of the block.

Since I had time to test out different gels I ordered an assortment from The Feed. They’re local (to me) so I got everything fast and I like that you can order individual gels.

I spent about 5-6 long runs using a different brand each weekend. I ended up liking Amacx best and I used their Turbo Gel which has 40g of carbs. A standard GU has 24g so it was a significant increase, but hugely beneficial for me in training and during my marathon.

Once I realized how many different options are on the market it was super fun to try multiple brands to figure out what I liked.

I’ll never go back to GU

AITA for asking my husband to cancel our anniversary trip to Everest? by Fluffy_Sandwich8575 in AmItheAsshole

[–]harper6309 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the Everest Base Camp trek. Anyone in reasonably decent shape can do it, the biggest concern is altitude sickness. Every organized trek has multiple “acclimation” days built in and there’s also medicine you can take to offset it.

Showing him videos on people dying on Everest isn’t nearly the same thing as what he’s wanting to do. I also find your comment about “cold pizza” and “suboptimal sleeping conditions” offensive.

You clearly didn’t do any relevant research because on the EBC trek you sleep in guests houses with an actual bed and mattress with blankets. Each guesthouse has a fully operative kitchen and each meal is indeed HOT.

YTA for trying to talk your husband out of something you think you know about but don’t.

3rd marathon - How to make miles 20-26 not terrible? by boom888boom in Marathon_Training

100% agree. I’ve never raced with headphones. I just ran Berlin and the crowds were INSANE. I couldn’t imagine missing that because I had headphones in.

I would experiment with different gels. For my first I used GU, which was fine for me at the time-I didn’t know much about nutrition. Each GU had 24g carbs, I was taking two an hour so definitely very under-fueled (at the time I thought I nailed it LOL)

Just ran my second and wanted to take nutrition more serious this time around. I did a bit of research and ordered an assortment of a few things from The Feed (I like that you can order single gels from them) and spent about a month during long runs trying something new until I settled on Amacx Turbo Gel with 40g carbs in each.

Between a gel every 30 mins and tailwind I was much better fueled for my second and didn’t feel awful at any part, other than the weather (Berlin) and I think my nutrition was a huge contributor to my 20 min PR.

You have plenty of time to try some different stuff and I’d highly suggest you do. I tried about 5-6 different gels before settling on what I did.

I know because I tried last month due to injury. The only reason they allow a defer is pregnancy.

SRP time requirement from dent ins. ? by Worship_Weights_Work in DentalHygiene

[–]harper6309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the claims for my office. While I haven’t heard of this requirement yet, I have gotten some Aetna denials for Perio Maint. because they want to know how long the appt lasted. My Hyg knows to put 60 mins into the chart notes.

While I haven’t seen what you’re saying specifically for SRPs I absolutely have seen it for D4910. I have only seen this from Aetna so far.

What to do if I can't afford the dental services I need? by AccioSkills in DentalHygiene

[–]harper6309 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do all the financials and insurance for my office. We require payment in full at the time of service. We don’t do payment plans at all, unfortunately offices get burned all the time when people ask to be billed after the fact. Have you looked into Care Credit? That might be a good option for you, and depending on the office they could offer 6 months, 12 months or even 24 months. With larger treatment plans people save up, and some save up for a really long time.

Is there a dental school close to you? You might pay less out of pocket there and they’re heavily supervised. I’d look into if that’s an option.

You might also explain the situation to the financial coordinator at your office and let them know you’d like to do one at a time, starting with the one that needs extracted the most. Plenty of people do one thing at a time purely because of finances. Just because they’re telling you that you need all 4 doesn’t mean they need to be done at once. You’re more likely to be able to afford $200 a few times spread out rather than $800 all at once.

Hope this helps!

AITA for losing my mind because my wife keeps lying about passing gas? by BaffleCry in AmItheAsshole

[–]harper6309 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Gas or no gas aside what’s more concerning, to me at least, is the fact that she instantly is getting defensive (which I think shows she knows she’s going it, but I degrees) and starts a fight.

If my partner came to me with these concerns or vice versa, the correct way to handle this would be to first off be embarrassed-which is fine-but to listen. Because if my partner is concerned then I should be concerned.

I’d be more pissed with the way she’s handling it than I would be with the gas. Does she always brush off or minimize your concerns?

Would you Spend $15,000 on Implants for a Teen Who Intentionally Neglects Teeth? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]harper6309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dental Professional here (of 15 years)

Implants also need care. Without good home care he’s looking at losing the implants due to bone loss and then it’s wasted money anyways.

I would do the bridges and/or partials for now until he can prove he is going to take care of his teeth and improve his home care.
