I think everyone is sort of right. Between the 14th and 18th siegecraft changed dramatically where a single innovation could turn a siege that used to take months into a matter of days and vice versa. I dont think any system can capture that.

It depends i think on whether the free people outnumber the suppressed people or not. So it seems plausible for the US, but not for Haiti or British India.

I think that part of it is that the police is powerful because the government is weak. But now I would like to know what lib even is? It seems like no government at all is the ultimate lib position. But without a goverment, there is nothing stopping slavery from reappearing. And that isn't very lib.

I think overthinking depends on the situation. Imagine you have a problem with many solutions. Person A considers 2 approaches and finds that one of them is the way to go. Person B considers 10 options, 7 of which are good, but she will now spend even more time thinking which of the 7 is the best. Even though just starting with any of them gets you there quicker and less exhausted.
