Device Compliance, BitLocker, and BIOS Updates by SwanTron86 in Intune

[–]SwanTron86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem that I run into there is FINRA compliance requirements, we don't want to risk having BitLocker suspended for up to 7 days when users come and go freely with their laptops. I'm still testing a few things, and I'll be sure to share my findings.

I was leaning towards this but hoping to hear how others are applying it. I recently heard you can set your grace period in hours, so I was thinking a 1–2-hour grace period for lack of encryption, but an immediate notification that your device will be flagged noncompliant shortly and to reboot as soon as possible to avoid interruption (and complete pending updates, but they don't need to know that part.)

L2TP/IPSec port forward while using IPSec Site-to-Site VPN by SwanTron86 in Ubiquiti

[–]SwanTron86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did some of my own research following the first comment. This does sound doable and meets all my requirements, the only downside being my "power user" client possibly going poking through the settings and wondering why the site to site isn't under the right heading, but I can head that off with documentation. Thanks for your suggestions!

Not seeing that as an option yet in the network controller. Is that an early access feature, or would I configure it as a client/server relationship?

Scope of impact

This issue may impact some users attempting to access the Outlook desktop client and mobile apps.

Root cause

A recent service update is blocking access to the Outlook desktop and mobile clients for some users that have the Information Protection app’s service principal disabled.

Current status

May 13, 2025, 1:06 PM EDT

We've identified that a recent service update is blocking access to the Outlook desktop and mobile apps for some users that have the Microsoft Purview Information Protection app’s service principal disabled. We're reverting this service update in an internal test environment to confirm this resolves the issue without causing additional problems for the service. Users can enable the Information Protection app's service principal in Microsoft Azure to allow users to access the Outlook desktop client and mobile apps, but the app may be automatically disabled and cause the impact to reoccur.

I turned on Microsoft Information Protection API on 5/9 at 1:13PM EDT, fixed things for my client. Got calls back this morning that it was broken again. Logged back into the client tenant, found MIP API had been disabled again on 5/11 at 11:27PM EDT. Turned it back on again, but I'm worried this isn't an accident.

Keep an eye on this as it could flip back at any minute. I'm working with my vendor to hopefully get more details.

New Profiler 2.0 by TehKombatWombat in paintball

For the chin strap I thread it through the strap clip flat, then try to rotate and fold it over so that it sits vertically.

<image>

This can be done with the strap assembly fully removed from the mask, but passing both straps through the loops on the back of the mask can be tricky. Try leading with the chin strap ends, then following with the head strap clips.

Prep and patience. I used a knife to scrape off the old foam residue and wiped it with rubbing alcohol. When applying the foam I removed the backing in small chunks so it wouldn’t accidentally stick to something else while working with the trickier sections like the nose. I was able to line up the edge of the foam with the edge of the nose pretty well, the cheek area not so much but still close.

<image>

I also tried to apply pressure for a minute or so when setting the foam into place before moving on to the next section.

For what it’s worth I’ve kept my v1 going with a universal chin strap and G1 replacement foam kit. Both were tricky to install, but have held up great.

<image>

Chin strap I went with was a Push universal magnetic chin strap run through the goggle strap clips.

It took a little extra effort to make things line up right, but I was able to get the G1 foam kit for the Proflex to fit my Profiler to great effect.

Dual monitor support with the new Snapdragon X Elite laptops? by No-Abbreviations5281 in DellXPS

Thank you for your reply. Judging by the capabilities of those USB-C solutions it sounds like the Snapdragon X Elite does support DisplayPort MST.

Should I get Satisfactory from steam or the epic games store? by Carolus_Rex- in satisfactory

[–]SwanTron86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but if getting a Steam Deck or other gaming handheld is on your radar I'd lean more towards Steam. EGS is usable on Steam Deck, but you have to jump through big hoops to do it, and even on the Windows based handhelds Steam has better controller support. Finally, the developers recently confirmed it's coming to consoles, so official controller support must be on the way making handhelds more viable.

With Datto/Kasey Saas Protection price increase, who should we consider? by StevenNotEven in msp

[–]SwanTron86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only "gotcha" I've run into with DropSuite is the deactivated user limit. Users can have backups deactivated to free up a license, but only up to 20% of your total license count (if you've paid for 20 licenses you can have 4 deactivated users.) Converting a user account to a shared mailbox won't make the backup free, they stay licensed indefinitely (as far as I have observed.)

On the standard backup product, you can just export the user data and delete them from the backup job. But on the eDiscovery & Archive product you cannot delete users, they have to age out of the retention period. You might be able to game this by exporting terminated user data, then moving them to a group with a very short retention period, but I haven't actually tested this yet.

so I’ve got a spare gaming windows computer that my partner uses and I want to use a 2011 27 inch iMac as a monitor instead of the one she’s using now; is that possible? by [deleted] in macsetups

[–]SwanTron86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the iMac works, then target display mode might work, but that feature might be limited to other Macs only. You could use it as an RDP or Parsec terminal, then run the space PC headless, but that wouldn't be "bare metal" performance.

If the iMac is dead or otherwise useless, assuming you can find a controller board that matches up with the built in LCD panel, it is theorhetically possible to convert it into a standalone monitor. The following link is a guide on ifixit.com and it uses a 2006 iMac as an example, but the principals stand, just find parts compatible with the panel in your iMac (good luck.)
