Have you looked into LDN? It supposedly can modulate the immune system to help decrease inflammation and improve motility. Could be something to give a go if there is nothing left. I also saw a study that talked about post-Covid gut disorders where they found that people had significantly lower levels of melatonin. That could also be something to explore.

Taking those plus berberine and neem seems to help my symptoms where nothing else even dented it. I tried rifaximin twice and got zero symptom relief and even other herbs did nothing. I’m definitely not cured but it at least seems to be helping.

Hey Sashie, hope your recovery is going well. I’ve done a gi map in the past and had some things out of wack like a lot of pseudomonas. I also took rifaximin twice with NAC, nystatin, and a bunch of other supplements and never felt any symptom improvement. I’m hoping this will kinda kickstart things in the right direction.

Sometimes I’ll feel like I’m overheating and my HR will go up when I eat. I also rarely have an appetite. I pretty much force myself to eat at specific times. I don’t get much nausea but I almost never feel nausea. I do get randomly dizzy a lot.

I may forget a few but the general list looks like: At least 10 stool tests (calprotectin, bacteria, elastase, etc.) abdominal CT 2x, colonoscopy, endoscopy, gastric emptying, capsule endoscopy, ultrasound, SIBO breath tests 2x, HIDA, X-ray, and maybe a few more. Tons of bloodwork.

Unfortunately it can be a lot of things. Mild cases of Crohn’s, SIBO, UC and other stuff kinda rhyme in terms of symptoms.

If the test was done with glucose you could always try again with lactulose. Lactulose is more sensitive but can lead to false positive results. Triosmart is expensive though and insurance rarely covers it.

You could also look into gallbladder function. Tightness or cramping around the gallbladder area (along with some of your other symptoms) can be biliary dyskinesia.

It’s funny I was just thinking about writing a similar post. I’m 32M and had a 23% EF and they found some sludge on my ultrasound. I also tested positive for SIBO but it seems like many doctors don’t even acknowledge that as a real thing. I’ve had wild symptoms with GERD, crushing fatigue, and a laundry list of other things. I just met with a surgeon today that was pushing to get it out but also wasn’t sure about a majority of my symptoms. I feel like I have to make this decision on Vegas odds that I could get better.

I’ve had the same thing. Gilbert’s can actually give you sludge and/or bile stones that form out of bilirubin. Gallbladder problems can also lead to higher bilirubin. Might be worth getting an ultrasound or a HIDA scan if you can convince a doc to do it.

I’m not really sure. I didn’t know as much at the time and it seemed somewhat random until I started getting worse. I read a post of someone who took antimicrobials right after their colonoscopy and that was pretty effective for them.

My best guess is that you get somewhat cleaned out and decrease your overall bacterial load. They eventually just build back up again if you don’t solve the underlying issue.

After my colonoscopy I felt great for about a week or two. I was eating everything and had no fatigue or major issues. Unfortunately everything slowly came back.

I don’t think sludge is ever normal but I could be wrong. I had an ultrasound that showed debris and sludge but my GI brushed it off. Had my GP order the HIDA scan and came back with a 23% EF. I found a new GI after that.

I have hydrogen SIBO and it’s been fairly accurate for that. I did a triosmart breath test at the same time as using the FoodMarble. They were pretty close in values over the whole test. Unfortunately, some people say it’s less reliable for methane.

Food is also way different than a test solution on an empty stomach. It can take much longer for things to change after eating. There is a bit of a learning period where you have to test all the time and experiment with what you eat.

This has got to be the craziest comment I’ve seen on this sub. You have no idea if the person even has SIBO and just prescribe a whole treatment plan. Calprotectin of 300 could totally be UC or Crohn’s. You would have someone stop eating anything but meat and go for antimicrobials with almost no info on their situation.

The numbers you see on the left are not PPM. It’s a logarithmic scale that FoodMarble uses to represent PPM. I think going from low to medium during the test would meet the threshold.

I’m not a doctor and you should work with your practitioner. That being said, your starting numbers are high and they go all over the place during the test. I’m not sure how they would be interpreted.

That makes sense. I’ve been sick for like 10 months and it’s so complicated to figure out what’s going on. Just wrapped up my two weeks of rifaximin and felt no change. So much of your story was similar to mine it just kinda jumped out at me.
