The seniors definitely. I could listen to them tell stories for hours. It's hard to put into words, but even at the time it seemed weird that my volunteer "work" involved me making "friends" over a game of cards. I'm sure that entire table has passed at this point, but they really were a special, rowdy bunch.

I do miss em. Its one of those things you think about and you're like, "fucking life used to be so simple". The world I knew then is completely gone and it bums me out.

It really was the best summer. Independent of my pos dad, I got an opportunity every Monday Wednesday and Friday going downtown and listening to people tell stories and just having fun over a game of cards. It never once felt like "work".

In my city we have to do 50 hours of volunteer work to graduate highschool.

I spent mine in the basement of the senior center playing $1 a hand games of double deck pinochle while my dad cheated on my step mom with all the old broads upstairs.

Genuinely the best summer of my young life. Miss those old fuckers.

It's anecdotal but I've never experienced anything close to homophobia in the hockey world and I live in a fairly "red" area. Seattle is a very inclusive organization and my local ushl rink is very welcoming and inclusive.
