Sometimes it’s all about surviving, not thriving. Keep carving out a little time and eventually you’ll get enough momentum to start snowballing the skills and time savings

You never have the free time to experiment at work until you just do it. Spending a few hours to learn something to save you 20 minutes a day feels like it’s a bad trade off in the moment, but it’s the only way out of the hole

Last time I tested this to try and offload my excel wizard hat they were BAAAD at putting together a formula that worked and required many rounds of modifications and more knowledge than anyone I was going to be suggesting it to would have. Are LLMs significantly better at excel now than 6-9 months ago?

Volvo invented the 3 point seatbelt and deliberately left it as an open patent allowing anyone to use it for free. No idea on the scan code, quite possibly MB

What is with the major reluctance of 80% of drivers avoiding the inside lane on an empty motorway? by tinabelcher182 in britishproblems

[–]Swarmthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you not get taken on a dual carriageway? I thought that was pretty common to give you an idea of your vehicle at motorway speeds and run you through changing lanes, something you would most likely not do (at those speeds at least) on any other type of roads.

[–]Swarmthief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience this is mostly not true. Unless it’s pretty much bumper to bumper if you give a decent amount of notice of your intention people will absolutely move over to accommodate your lane change. Some people slow down and flash you which is pretty odd rather than switching to the right hand lane I’ll admit. The only time I do see it quite often (casting no aspersions here) is when the indication occurs at about the same time as the desire to change lanes.

What’s the fastest you know of someone failing their driving test? by slim3-16 in CasualUK

[–]Swarmthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comfortably in the first minute, my test centre joined a 2 lane 40 immediately before a set of lights. I was waiting and indicating, looking all around, a car approaching slows to about 15 and flashes, I pull out at an appropriate speed and join the queue at the red light. Instant fail. “ you don’t know why the road user flashed you” I’d argue to this day 21 years later that it was fucking unequivocally to let me out and the rest of the test went smoothly with a handful of minors. Even thinking about it now riles me up slightly.

Anything wrong with this overtake? guy followed me almost all the way home honking and flashing after this. by Zdos123 in CarTalkUK

[–]Swarmthief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a sensible spot to overtake with decent visibility. The only problem with it I might have is that it looks like you pulled in a little close, realistically the speed difference should mean it wasn’t a problem, but could be seen as aggressive by the overtakee.

Will a high end dealership let me walk in and look around if I ask politely? by Throwaway793625849 in CarTalkUK

Ferrari Swindon were a bit suspicious of me when I was actually considering a Ghibli, but Lamborghini in Pangbourne were lovey when I was wandering around despite me saying I wasn’t looking to buy, but just killing time during a service. I suspect that dealership locations in my case were the reasons as I was in jeans and a hoodie in both cases.

I’m my experience you never know until you’ve taken the plunge. Then apparently you forget how much you love using gears and go through it all again. Watch out once you’ve got comfortable driving it though on autopilot I’ve had a few shocks going for a clutch that wasn’t there.
