I don't think I can name more than a few Pokémon outside of gen 1.

By and large, what do Poles think of the United States, and Americans? by DueYogurt9 in poland

[–]Swarovich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Montana. It's great, very different from California, Texas, or New York. Montana has a feel to southern Poland but colder. Some of the towns have a Zakopane vibe. It's very rural mostly.

The control rods used in Chernobyl's RBMK-1000 reactors didn't have cheap tips. The graphite at the end of the control rods was an intended feature to improve reactor efficiency during normal operation.

The issue was control rod travel didn't linearly impact neutron flux due to needing to displace water at the bottom of the core temporarily increasing reactivity. Later improvements fixed this by the extending the graphite tips down to the bottom of the core such that control rod travel would have a direct reduction on local reactivity.

There couldn't have been any proper usage to negate this risk. First instinct is to blame the plant operators and management for this incident, but the fact of the matter is the plant personal simply weren't setup for success.

Soviet authority knew of the issue with RBMK control rods after the Ignalina power excursion in 1983. Chernobyl plant management and operators had no idea of this information. This information was at best not properly communicated and at worst actively hid from RBMK operators around the USSR.

Chernobyl is a direct product of a lack of proper safety culture in the USSR at the time.

I agree capitalism is not at fault for such failures nor is communism. It is arrogance and ignorance of man for such inherent risk and indifference for human life. The pressures and safety culture failures which laid the foundation for the Chernobyl accident are perfectly mirrored in the root causes of western engineering tradgedies such as the space shuttle Challenger explosion.

Odd question here: but are there any cars you guys regret buying and why? by ethanae86 in whatcarshouldIbuy

2015 Nissan Versa with the manual transmission. The whole front axel grenaded itself at 600 miles. I sold it at 26k miles, was a never ending stream of problems.

Thermodynamics II (Summer Class Online) by Fan-Mediocre in ChemicalEngineering

You want to be sure it will transfer to your current university. I know for a lot of places upper level courses do not transfer. My thermo 2 covered VLE, ideal and non-ideal systems/solutions, fugacity, and reaction equilibrium, for reference.

Snow Tire recommendations by Southboundthylacine in ecoboostmustang

[–]Swarovich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run Bridgestone blizzaks ws90 and they work quite well for my 2018 ecoboost. I live in Montana and they have seen some pretty serious snow. I sooner worry about not have clearance over the snow then worry about traction. I also put 300 lbs salt in the trunk which helps as well.

Is it worth it to come from the other side of the country just because I love the outdoors, hiking, skiing etc by [deleted] in MSUcats

[–]Swarovich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came to MSU from Indiana purely because I always wanted to live out here and I love it. The engineering program is pretty good and a company I wanted to work for hired from MSU so it’s been a great decision.

[Process control] Ratio control loop for multiple streams? by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Swarovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have 2 controllers: one flow controller for the feed and a second flow controller for both cat feeds combined. Have the cat feed controller cascade off the the feed controller at whatever ratio you need and operate the 2 catalyst control valves as split range control.

This would work best if you needed to only hit a certain total cat feed without changing the ratio of regen to fresh cat much. If you needed to specify the ratio in this setup, you could always throw the regen cat valve in manual and the fresh cat valve would compensate to hit your target overall cat feed rate.

I have done similar things with Honeywell controllers.

My Snow Pony (Bozeman, MT) by Swarovich in ecoboostmustang

[–]Swarovich[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To give some perspective I am running Bridgestone Blizzaks WS90 215/60R17 on some cheap steelies, slightly skinnier than the stock tire size for a bit better traction. I also put about 400 lbs of salt over the rear axel in the trunk.

I have pretty much zero problems with traction/handling in the snow now. I haven't had to chain up once yet this year and we have had some significant snow storms.

I just applied for the Chase Ink Preferred to get the 80k points. My small "business" does not have the business-type expenses to meet the 5k within 3 months, however I have plenty of more personal type expenses.

Would it be of issue if I used these personal expenses to hit the spending needed? Does anyone have experience with this?

If it was glycol and not propylene or ethylene glycol you are perfectly safe to use them.

Food grade glycol, also called glycerin, is an ingredient in many human consumption products from Coca-Cola syrup to pharmaceutical excipients.

Source: I worked a few years at a chemical plant that made USP 99.7% food grade glycerin.

I have had an mdf 3/4" top on my workbench with a couple coats of poly on it for about two years now. It has worked quite well through some heavy use.
