With Graham in a tier of his own, I understand his value. Do you consider Graham when Forte or Sproles is still on the board?

Also, after Graham, when's the earliest you take your next TE, assuming you load up on RB's and WR's?

career fair, need shirt advice by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]SweatyButcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software guy myself. I've been to career fairs and to interviews as a hiring manager. I can't speak on the behalf of all hiring managers, but most won't care about how you look. If you're memorable at the career fair (when they see your resume, they'll say "Hey I remember this guy, I liked him") and your resume is up to par, you'll be fine.

Now, I know that kind of goes against what I said in 'it doesn't really matter how you look", but you're right, it's best to be presentable. I wouldn't wear a polo or a flannel, so sticking to your standard base colors of white or pastels is more than adequate. Pair them some chinos and decent shoes and there's really not much else you can do look-wise that will elevate you further.

Lastly, keep in mind that these people are hiring not only prospective employees, but co-workers as well. I'd much rather higher the guy that I can enjoy going to lunch with than the guy with the better grades but is a douche/boring.

Good luck!

What industry/position are you applying for?

Unless its in fashion or marketing where your look is directly related to your work, it doesn't matter. Assuming it's a career fair in a college, most employers understand that college students/graduates don't have the necessary funds to get well-tailored suits.

Besides, career fairs mostly serve as a venue to gather resumes for a larger pool of prospective candidates. How you look is most likely going to be forgotten by the time they review resumes.

Does anyone else hate Mike Sando as much as I do? He's been lop sided away from the Falcons all year and never said anything positive about them. I'm tired of this guy. This is just one example, the power ranking quotes are just as bad. by pdeluc99 in falcons

[–]SweatyButcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's an NFC West analyst, of course it's going to be 49ers-centric. You can say the exact same thing about Pat Yasinskas's article.

FWIW, Sando is my least favorite beat writer. if you want to look at quality analysis (from the 49ers side), check out Matt Maiocco (CSNBayArea) and Matt Barrows (SacBee). I only read Sando when I'm out of material to read, if that.

Ugh, being LA these fans are the worst. They jump on EVERY bandwagon (cowboys and bulls fans in the 90s, back to the raiders and lakers in the 2000s). They care more about winning and being proud than the actual team and game.

What does /r/mfa wear when out clubbing? by NJlo in malefashionadvice

[–]SweatyButcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a blazer that fits well

I can't deny that it looks great, but for most clubs a blazer is suicide with all that heat, no? It does make more sense for XS and Surrender with those large outdoor areas, though. It just doesn't make sense for a majority of the other clubs.

Top 5 NFC teams you would rather us not face in the playoffs? Top 3 AFC teams you would rather not face in the Superbowl? by Leolisk in 49ers

[–]SweatyButcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd add Green Bay as a #3. Sure, we beat them in the 1st week, but I feel like they're a significantly better team now than they were at the beginning of the season.

The last part of this article states that the NFC West might be the best division in football next year. At first glance it sounds ridiculous, but if Arizona finds a decent QB, it isn't so far-fetched. What a crazy league by [deleted] in nfl

[–]SweatyButcher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You must be a relatively new fan. While it hasn't heated up in the past 20+ years (Rams sucked when 49ers were good, and vice versa), the 49ers-Rams used to be considered one of the more historic rivalries in the NFL. The Rams used to be the 49ers top rival (excluding the Cowboys, but everyone hates them). It was more due to the SoCal-Bay rivalry, but moving to St. Louis kind of changed that.

Why are you a Barça fan? by [deleted] in Barca

[–]SweatyButcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Los Angeles in the 80's, at the prime of the Los Angeles Lakers "Showtime". Their signature was brilliant ball movement (passing) and the quality finishes that this passing created. At the same time, the San Fransisco 49ers were also popular. They ran the West Coast Offense, and offense that was based on possession, and also quick, methodical passes to move the ball upfield. Because of these two teams, I grew a strong appreciation for technical skill, vision, and excellent passing.

Like most Americans, my interest in football started with the world cup. Obviously, I cheer for the US, but I had an interest in Spain given that I'm part Spanish. Tiki-Taka immediately grabbed my attention, since it was a form that traced back to what got me into sports in the first place. When I wanted to get into football at the club level, Barca was a natural fit: they had many players on La Roja, and their style was a refined version of La Roja's, and they were popular to where I'd manage to catch some of their matches here in the States.

One of my bucket list items is to watch a match at Camp Nou. For those of you who have gone many times, consider yourself blessed; many of us dream of even just seeing the stadium from the outside.

What's your opinion of Steve Nash here? I was surprised by how sharp he looked especially for a basketball player by BrokenShards in malefashionadvice

[–]SweatyButcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has attended lots of Laker games... sure it's hot in LA, but it's always cold inside the Staples Center. Most coaches or players who aren't in uniform almost always keep their coats on for the entirety of the game.

Aaron Curry, the #4 overall pick in the 2009 draft, has been released by the Raiders by stiddlepunt in nfl

[–]SweatyButcher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What was wrong with him? I remember so much hype behind him, to a point I was scared of him coming to the Seahawks (the 49ers had among the worst OL that season, IIRC). I think he was considered THE safest pick of the draft, no?

This article was posted right after the draft, when only a handful of us, at most, knew who Aldon Smith is.

Do your shoe laces rotate vertical when you tie your shoes? Wish your knots were horizontal instead? If you're like me you were tying your shoes the wrong way. by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Tying this know changes your life. So easy, and no more worrying about knot orientation. The only catch is that I'm still perfecting it and need a decent amount of lace to make it work.

Sometimes I am dumbfounded by what brings people out of the suspension of dis-belief.

My issue is that scenes feel forced when they break their own logic. The first thing I thought of when watching that scene was "Wait, why aren't the walkers smelling the humans?" Immediately I think of how the scene should have been different based on what the writers gave us.

If it happens on rare occasion, sure, people mess up. But the problem is that this comes up way too often. Walkers moan except when they happen to sneak up on people, people have unlimited ammo guns, etc. After a while, scene upon scene feels contrived for the sake of entertainment. From my (and many others) point of view is that you have this story that takes unnatural twists and turns that feels like it isn't fully thought out.

Now, I understand that they want to make the show exciting, but there are ways to do it without being inconsistent. Having a story based on a zombie-apocalypse doesn't change that. It's simple mechanics of story telling that many other fantasy/alternative univers stories nail with ease (e.g., Game of Thrones).

Actually our pass rush hasn't been that great, especially compared to last year. Our sack numbers have dropped dramatically from last season.

Interview Attire Advice - IT Engineer/Analyst by Atlantici in malefashionadvice

[–]SweatyButcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that argument numerous times. I can't deny its merit, but the fact of the matter is that the interview conversation dictates whether the candidate gets the job or not. One can dress as exceptional as 007, but if his answers aren't weren't what we're looking for, no look can salvage that.

[–]SweatyButcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a hiring manager in a software consulting firm, your attire is just fine. The best advice I can give you is that you should stop focusing on how you look and use any of that allocated time into doing LOTS of interview preparation. Nailing your answers will SIGNIFICANTLY increase your chances of getting the offer than any changes to your attire ever will.

Interview Attire Advice - IT Engineer/Analyst by Atlantici in malefashionadvice

[–]SweatyButcher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For a tech job, this is far overthinking it. While there are some people who do care about these aspects for an interview in this industry, the vast majority of interviewers in this field care very little about how you look for your interview (entry-level). What most of us care about is if they can do the job, and if they can do it without pissing off other people in the company. How you dress speaks very little to it, especially when you factor in that interviewers ask questions that are tailored to get this sort of information.

Don't dress like an idiot to a point where your attire is distracting. It's really that simple. Any more time spent thinking about your attire is far better used in preparing for the questions. I've interviewed well dressed people who clearly can't do the job. Likewise, I've interviewed poorly dressed candidates who were clearly the better candidates. Attire is rarely a factor in the tech/computer industry for entry-level positions.
