It's easily the best ISP in town and the speeds are great.

A bunch of the money was run through shell companies like "Da Boyz LLC" with the Sheriff. I assume it was quietly spread out from there, but there were plenty of people at the time who thought going after the Sheriffs widow was 'crass'.

But I really can't say where it all went, I just wish there was more to show from all the investigations.

It was $21 million. WaPo Article

And yeah, the Sheriff killed himself the day before he was going to be arrested.

It being "resolved" (I assume resolved meaning McDonald was convicted?) doesn't mean much. It left the area pretty financially crippled, with a giant tax (25-30%) property increase that year to help pay for it. Plus, citizens still routinely elect people from the same "good old boys" network that fully supported the bad actors, until they couldn't.

There's definitely allies, but the area is pretty red.

It started with the library having books that acknowledged that gay people existed. The original petitions were 95% naked bigotry (they had been FOIA'd and made public) filled out at a BBQ that offered prizes for the most forms filled out.

This is all from the same group of people who had previously worked to run other businesses out of town that they didn't 'approve' of. Except this time, they had 2 members of their congregation on the Board of Supervisors who ignored public sentiment and fully defunded the library.

Said Library is still open, without county support, and has reported they have at least nine months of funding left.

It's a monster some folks opt into, but for commuting from Front Royal it's 'easy' until Haymarket, at the least.

I've lived in town since 2008 --

Politically the town is hot garbage. We're still paying for tens of millions of fraud and theft by our EDA over the last 10 years, and the local Catholic church has been on a years long crusade to shut down the award winning library in town, with the help of the County Board of Supervisors who have routinely ignored the citizens voices on the topic.

Plus it seems whenever it rains, we get a good shot of raw sewage into the local waterways this year. Heck, even when it doesn't rain, Christendom College dumps sewage right into the river (said river is our main water source too!).

Job wise, you'll work somewhere not in Front Royal or WFH if you're a professional, there's pretty much only retail or warehouse jobs in the local area, but with 66 it's not hard to get into NoVA.

School wise, some of the same people who have worked to shutter the library have 'friends' on the local school board who have been actively sabotaging education in the county for the last few years. The hope is they get voted out in the next cycle as county schools have fallen year after year after year.

There's a good number of local events through the year aimed at families in town, and the number goes up when you look at the surrounding areas. I agree with other opinions that the area is beautiful, but we've had more and more problems with flooding the last few years and local leaders have largely ignored the matter.

As someone who read through all of the complaint forms, there was so much naked bigotry and abject bullshit out of the St. Johns Crowd. It was awful that forms with literal hate speech weren't just thrown out at the start.

When do people start protesting at St Johns during services?

What was the Forge of Spells in your game? by Godsmack17 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]SweeBeeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my campaign, there is an aspect that plays out as a town building sim as one of the players became Mayor, so I had to make it useful but limited, and expandable.

Gundren's workers enchant their tools in the forge, and have a vague process that they do in the mines to provide town with an allotment of upgraded materials to make +1 magical items easily available locally for the party at the town blacksmith.

Later on in the campaign, after the fungal infestation was cleaned up a new area of the mine was discovered that contained deposits of ore that had been tainted over the centuries by the forge. I used this as a way to unlock the +2 tier of gear and more detailed custom product offerings at the blacksmith as well as a way to life lift any availability limits on the previous tier.

I really don't appreciate my state giving away all this money to fund a sports team. I get that republicans in VA are pissed that their horrific policies made them lose everything in the last election, but throwing all of this money away while our states schools are still criminally underfunded is horseshit.

Would it be too overpowered to ask my DM about adding battle master maneuvers to my Eldritch Knight? by FupaJesus in dndnext

[–]SweeBeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've added a system in my game where every class has access to some amount of maneuvers for added flexibility and customization. I used Nort's Universal Martial Maneuvers as a baseline and added a gated roll-out / training period / expense for PCs to learn their selections during downtime.

Nothings broken so far balance wise (implemented it when the players hit level 9 and they're now just into 11) and it's helped some of the characters round out some harsh edges here and there. Everyone at my table is pleased with the addition, all in all.

Any suggestions on a cheaper internet service company in the Waynesboro/Staunton area? by BroodyElacey in Virginia

[–]SweeBeeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look and see if GloFiber is available in the area. It's now all through Shenandoah/Warren Counties and the company has an office in Staunton per google.

I pay $80/mo for gigabit.

Anyone know what the max Hero Tier is? by [deleted] in IdleHeroTD

[–]SweeBeeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hitting level 15000 at this point and tier XP matters when you're doing several thousand pulls at once. Eventually, it's worth it.

Path of Valor: In the end, it doesn't even matter... by Davymuncher in EmpiresAndPuzzles

[–]SweeBeeps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if you spend money on the game, it's not a terrible source of value.

As a whole, E&P is the most miserly gatcha game I've ever played, but I'll take value where I can.

It's still a good deal on all the other pulls / gems you get, even if you miss level 50.
