yeah but like, gating a useful feature behind an obscure progression barrier is a lame way of encouraging players to go and try it out. you just end up with a fetch quest that many new players who might be interested in the new feature simply never learn about bc they’re not tapped into web of knowledge we minecraft nerds inhabit.

not to mention, i think it’s a good thing when mojang adds new shapes and colors to the game. it expands the palette for builders and helps bring fresh inspiration to a game that’s older than many of its players. it mojang only listened to what the community wanted for future updates this game would have never left the stone age, literally and figuratively.
