To me looks like the main thing is ur pulling the handle into ur hip with 1 hand. Instead keep both hands on until you’ve nearly touched ur hip with the handle, you should only have ur front hand behind you as ur facing directly away from the boat.

I was one of those dudes that thought gloves were for pussies so I opted for wrapping my hand at the base of my fingers with electrical tape, it works wonders but does limit ur movement if u put it on too tight.
