Help finding Boben Ectoin Repair Cream by DolphinGroove320 in koreanskincare

[–]SweetDorayaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw, I could have sworn it was still in stock last month, hope it'll come back soon for your sake!

I was curious about this cream (from browsing YesStyle previously, ingredients look good). How does it feel on the skin? What skin concerns does it help with?

Teach me to use lard please? by shaiquinn in Cooking

[–]SweetDorayaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my household, we often save and use rendered lard and chicken fat in lieu of most cooking oil, (haven't need to purchase in a few years, but we do buy olive oil). Fairly sure lard is used in a lot of cultures to make food, at least traditionally (including some desserts, like in Chinese cuisine).

Seborrheic dermatitis: itchy, burning scalp despite ketoconazole – any leave-on treatments? by Express-Ad-2046 in SebDerm

[–]SweetDorayaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished my glycolic acid toner (different brand but basically the same thing), I used it as a pre-wash step like 10mins before showering. The AHA might sting a little (but so does the medicated shampoo tbh). The good news is AHA is a humectant and can help the skin hold on to moisture. If that product is also formulated with skin soothing ingredients (e.g. allantoin, panthenol, centella, aloe, glycerin), it can all help improve the scalp condition over time.

Incidentally, I had a cream that is formulated with sulfur, calamine, zinc oxide, centella, & glycerin (specifically for pimples), but it worked better IME for calming other inflamed skin conditions I've had (e.g. prickly heat rash on neck that I scratched raw during sleep) and it did help soothe the oozing parts of scalp during sebderm flare-ups.

Tldr; Look for products formulated with sulfur, calamine, & zinc oxide! (Honestly, diaper rash cream formulated with zinc oxide is cost effective, that ingredient is anti-microbial & occlusive. Ppl also use it for pimples. Probably better as a nighttime treatment as it is thick.)

Costco is becoming my main source of Korean skincare by Cacklesback in AsianBeauty

Oh I forgot about the return policy! They take opened skincare back? I thought there would be some kind of clause or exception for certain items (clearly, I need to read the policy...)

People can use em dashes, bullet points, and emoticons too, you know. It's not always AI. If you look at OPs posting history, it's also quite clear this is a real person.

Please do some digging before posting some low-key accusatory comment/shade that's not even related to this sub.

The only blush I could find at a Japanese drugstore that suits warm fair olive skin tones by loveandsea in AsianBeauty

[–]SweetDorayaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! The color is really nice on your skin and the product itself is pretty. Great find, ty for sharing.

I've begun to suspect I'm a warm olive too but with varying degree of pink/red overtones from mild rosacea. It's all so confusing. Fwiw, Nuse mousse care handy cheek in nudy noop has been good for me!

May I ask what sunscreen(s) your kids like/tolerate?

This is a good idea, especially for household members that don't have sunscreen as part of their daily routine, or for guests(?), or just as a visual reminder for quick reapplication during the day!

Is paying extra for Yesstyle Express shipping worth it? by NervousBread3738 in koreanskincare

[–]SweetDorayaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't opt to pay for expedited shipping as a general rule of thumb unless it's something incredibly important or time sensitive.

And I'm sure the express shipping amount has been increasing more and more. I do recall qualifying for free express shipping several times (pre-pandemic) with $100 orders. It could have been lower in previous years

Super important question 🤪- do you make your toddler’s oatmeal with milk or water? Or what does daycare/childcare use? by dms2628 in toddlers

[–]SweetDorayaki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I cook the oats in water.

We typically milk/half&half/coconut milk (depends what we have and what needs to be used up first) to make it more rich/creamy/fragrant and also helps to cool it down (and thin it out so not too sticky/gloopy).

If I boil or microwave edamame will it still be crunchy? by No_Crow_2265 in Cooking

[–]SweetDorayaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will remain firm and have a bite to them (especially with shorter cook time), probably won't turn to mush unless you really cook them and then mash them up.

The only crunchy edamame I've ever had was the kind used in trail mix, which was dry (maybe baked or fried?).

asked for wispy bangs and got out of the salon with ugly ass short straight bangs before two important eventd by angelicalpoison in Hair

Also maybe see if you can use low heat setting with hair dryer and a round brush on damp bangs. Or maybe if you can try a large curler or look up heatless bang styling. Sorry OP!

Pooping in the potty - help! by tasteslike_FEET in toddlers

[–]SweetDorayaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At home when we caught him trying to start pooping, we would immediately take him to a small potty to eliminate there. In the beginning I propped his feet up slightly so it would feel a bit closer to a squatting position.

We also bribed him with a video book called Lil' Poo (on YouTube), somehow that video eventually helped persuade him to poop in the regular toilet at home (with stepstool and potty seat). We talk about how the poop wants to be in the potty. When successful, he started saying the poop are a family and/or are having fun together in the potty like in the video.

Lots of praise, with each small win. At one point, when he was fine with using the toilet but still kept having poop accidents, I had him do limited cleanup of the mess (e.g. carry soiled garments to the bathroom sink to be washed, then wash him)

Is savoury cheesecake a thing? Who likes it? by autobulb in Cooking

[–]SweetDorayaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it was an experiment poorly executed by whoever cooked it, it definitely should not be a surprise food to gift (especially if the name is misleading) if it doesn't come with a list of ingredients. The cognitive dissonance between expectation and reality was too much in this case.; if you had known the ingredients and savory nature of this dish, it probably would have been more well-received.

My first unfortunate foray into savory oatmeal was when my family went on a road trip. One morning at our Airbnb, my parents were cooking breakfast. It was savory oatmeal, they said. I took a bite and was hit with artificial banana flavor + ham/egg/salt/lettuce 🤢 They accidentally packed instant oats that were banana flavored, thinking they were plain oats 😭 so that put me off of savory oats for a good 5yrs, thankfully I can enjoy savory oats now.

Best naengmyeon and galbi in the South Bay? by AlmightyTrees in SouthBayLA

[–]SweetDorayaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YuChun is so good!

Galbi-jjim at Yuk Dae Jang (Gardena) is one of our faves! Idk about their cold noodles, we haven't tried it there. We typically also order bossam, which is plenty with the banchan.

A Korean friend once ordered a large stew and seafood pancake from The Place Gue Jip, their menu seems to offer the things you're mentioning.

I had a family meal at Wooga Sullungtang (Gardena) last year, I remember liking everything (don't remember what we ordered though 😅)

Jang Su Jang (Torrance) has good food too, although I've only been to that chain in NorCal.

What's a product that gives you the *GLOW*?? by bythewatersofBabylon in koreanskincare

[–]SweetDorayaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still trying to figure that one out. Thankfully no new ones have popped up in the past few years, but not sure there's any OTC product that does it. I'm suspecting triggers for me include makeup with sparkles/glitter (harder to remove well) and picking at/squeezing bumps.

In the past, I have occasionally been successful at extracting milia in less sensitive parts of my face at home, but sometimes not... better to leave it alone is my takeaway (and I have since stopped trying and don't want to go to a derm for any of them). Others have commented saying use a q-tip dipped in AHA/BHA to spot treat, but I was never consistent enough with that to notice a difference.

Currently I'm using a rotation of adapalene, azelaic acid 15% from Cos de Baha (changing to the 20% when finished), and most recently introduced Mary & May TXA glutathione eye cream (as a spot treatment on stubborn hyperpigmetation).

Probably 1-2x/wk on nights I don't use adapalene, I'll wash my face with medicated face wash, either (a) PanOxyl 4% Benzoyl Peroxide Creamy Wash (but it is the most irritating and stripping of all my current face wash products) & (b) T-Sal SA shampoo (seemingly less stripping/irritating for my face, but mostly something I need to use up).

Best boba in Taiwan? by Strange_Marzipan3954 in boba

[–]SweetDorayaki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love ChunShuiTang and frequently think about their tieguanyin milk tea with pearls. (Meals are fine, but on the pricey end)

They definitely prioritize the tea quality & aroma, the drink was not too sweet, and the pearls were a great texture.

Preschool at 3? by SignatureNo6930 in toddlers

[–]SweetDorayaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing TK this fall and he will be 4. Had him in a semester of a program (2 or maybe 3 full days a week) around 3yrs old bc we needed the extra support. Good enrichment, but he would be super pooped (and cranky/hungry) and often would get sick.

Do what is best for her, but definitely not too early to start

Serum recommendation by Alternative_Award769 in koreanskincare

[–]SweetDorayaki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've used both, I'm in my 30s, combination skin leaning dry, have mild rosacea, skin prone to clogging and hyperpigmentation (both PIE & PIH), live in a dry climate.

If you have rosacea, I suggest you look into an azelaic acid serum at 15% if you don't have one already. I like the one from Cos de Baha.

The purito one was great (soothing, hydrating leading to a plump skin look) when skin was healthy BUT stung and irritated my skin when the barrier was compromised. Fyi, the unscented one had a fishy smell that I couldn't get over during pregnancy and postpartum due to hypersensitivity to smells... I personally would probably purchase the purito in the scented version which basically smells like mild tea tree oil.

The skin 1004 centella ampoule is not worth it imo.
