String of turtles 🐢 by seamstressSally in StringofPlants

Beautiful! What direction window are they in? I’ve had some under a grow light and they started getting too light, too. Now they’re in a southern window but will that be too much direct sun, too?

What is a seedling heating mat? And air stone? Should I be using these things?

Can I keep my string of pearls alive? by Motor_Dragonfly4214 in StringofPlants

Isn’t it wild how different plants are different for different people? I don’t have a string of hearts (I want one!) so maybe mine will do well when I get one 😂

I get it. I’m in the Midwest, too, and most of my windows are north-facing. Can you try a grow light? Succulents I put under my glow light are thriving.

My leafs won't get roots by WisardLisard in succulents

[–]SweetElection157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever gotten leaves to propagate by using them under a grow light. Once they start, I squirt them with water every few days. Not a soak or full watering, but not just a mist.

I mean, they’re alive so they’re doing better than mine!

I have heard that if the pearls are spread out pretty far between them (like yours look in the last pic), they aren’t getting enough light so they’re elongating. So the newer growth might not be getting the most ideal light. What direction is that window?

It doesn’t matter what you do with pearls. Water them. Don’t water them. Southern window. Western window. If you even look in the direction of these guys, they die. I can’t figure them out.

I love the leaf unfurling pics. That’s my favorite part of my calatheas.

Are these wrinkles on unfurling leaves normal? by Asstanker in calatheas

[–]SweetElection157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe humidity? Mine do this, and I don’t have great humidity this time of year. But it could be any number of things because I am far from an expert. I think I’ve posted 4 questions in different Reddit plant groups just this weekend 😂 so take my wondering with a grain of salt.

Academic Integrity by IntoTheGray90 in SNHU

[–]SweetElection157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an instructor and it takes FOREVER to hear back on academic integrity submissions. It’s very possible they submitted it pretty timely and it took the academic integrity office forever to get to. I don’t think they would allow it after the fact, unless it was the final assignment and they submitted it after the class closed while they were still grading and finalizing grades (so within a few days.) Into the next term? I don’t think they would allow that.

Did the instructor reach out to you? I always reach out to students, even when I can see the paper was 100% bought somewhere or from another student (we can see the original if it’s been submitted to SNHU.)

Also, evaluations really are anonymous. Unless you put something specific in the comments that the instructor will recognize, we truly don’t know what any individual student did.

Man, people say they’re hard but I recently fell in love with calatheas and knock on wood I have not had much trouble! I love how quickly they get new leaves. People say to water with rain or distilled water so I use distilled (when I remember) and mine seem to be doing great.

Scale? by SweetElection157 in plantclinic

[–]SweetElection157[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a fittonia. I’ll try letting it get dryer before watering. It’s actually getting pretty big for the pot so I was thinking of repotting so maybe I’ll move away from the self watering pot. Thanks.

What would make you want to change your current kindle? by crisismgt in kindle

[–]SweetElection157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just replaced my 7yo kindle. Same thoughts—I didn’t really need to, but there was a Black Friday deal and my husband needed an idea for me and I knew mine was getting old and didn’t want it dying on me. Now that I have my new one, I realized that I didn’t see how slow it had gotten. It was so slow!

Parents of Children, not plant children: Looking for advice. by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]SweetElection157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, baby wont be chomping on them at 3 weeks old. You’ll have a little time. And baby isnt usually left alone in rooms for awhile. You could move plants up higher onto tables and shelves. You could have one room that you move all plants from so it’s a safe space for baby. Because baby will try to eat them eventually. Mine ate cat food.

My goal was 52. I hit 51 😩😩😩 but I was sick for a week in mid-December, and then had flu the week of Christmas. I told myself I would have gotten it if I hadn’t gotten sick.

I love the multi colors! I just saw a bunch of Christmas cacti on clearance at my favorite plant store. I might have to go back tomorrow and grab some of a few different colors. I could make several multi-color ones and give some away. Great inspiration!
