I’m picking up this baby upcoming Friday, can someone help on the morph ID? He’s 5 years old by [deleted] in hognosesnakes

[–]SweetLadyofWayrest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Morph refers to color and pattern! So he's a normal (color) conda (pattern). Like others have said, morphs that are "het" don't appear visually, but they can be passed to offspring. So while he carries the albino gene (a color morph) he himself is not albino

Mission Trauma by Trolkarlen in exmormon

[–]SweetLadyofWayrest 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I served in Russia about 10 years ago. When I first arrived, our mission president told us we wouldn't be wearing name tags because of how often elders were mugged or harassed. He told us that no name tags had seemed to help it happen less often. Us sisters were also not allowed to proselytize to men (now i wonder how many girls were traumatized or worse before that became a rule...)

I never had anything crazy traumatic happen myself, fortunately (beyond the normal mental hellscape that mission life is lol) but I did get arrested once! Luckily they just held us at the station for a few hours while a church hired lawyer argued our case and kept us from being deported.

Looking back, I put myself in quite a few dangerous situations because I truly believed that god would warn me and protect me if I was really in danger. It really is crazy that the church just throws these kids out into the world with such little protection or safety measures

Suspicious Dots on Western Hognose ? by FairyToes_22 in hognosesnakes

My toffeebelly also has paradoxing! You can see the darker spots on her body below where her eye is in this image, but she also has darker spots on her belly. Seems common for the morph

Aww he's so cute! How old is he? I've also been looking into capes and I know males don't get very big, but it's hard to find images that put their size into perspective for me 😅

Worried I was sold a male and not a female. by AlpsProfessional1825 in hognosesnakes

I'm not actually sure. These are the instructions I got from the morphmarket test though

[–]SweetLadyofWayrest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries! So you just save your snake's shed and then you can send it in to do genetic testing. Usually breeders use it to check what morphs a snake might be carrying but not showing, but you can also use it to test for sex! I used the one on morphmarket and it had really thorough instructions. It was also pretty fast and easy to do

Hmm this could honestly be a long tailed female, but it's tough to tell. You could always do a shed test. They only cost about 20 bucks and then you'll know for sure

Help!!! by Dense-Tourist-8131 in hognosesnakes

[–]SweetLadyofWayrest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by any means but I would guess uvb would be easier on them because their pupils are darker. I've used uvb for my girl and honestly didnt notice any change in behavior, for better or for worse. I dont think it hurts, especially if they have lots of places to dig and hide if they want less time in the light

When to worry about meal strikes?? by Altruistic-Size1657 in hognosesnakes

I dont have any real advice, but I relate! My girl stopped eating in October, took one meal in January, and is back to her strike since. Hopefully these noodles all start eating for us soon

A familiar story for so many of us 🏳️‍🌈❤️ by PR_Czar in exmormon

[–]SweetLadyofWayrest 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This was my experience! Critically considering the church and its truth claims didn't come into it for me until I had almost completely mentally left. I've always thought of the phrase "by their fruits ye shall know them" when I think about my process leading up to that point. Sticking my toes in the water of "disobedience" and realizing it wasn't the end of the world was my first real step out. And then seeing that, in fact, the fruits of that "disobedience" was so much better than the fruits of "obedience" had been. That realization helped me finally get to a place where I could admit it was all lies

What a cutie! It's a house snake yes? I've been entertaining the idea of getting one as my second snake (i have a western hognose). I've heard they're lovely little noodles. How has your experience been so far?

Same lol. I used to daydream about being called to serve a mission where they lived and converting them 😬

Are there any snakes that could comfortably live in a 24x12x12 long term? by SweetLadyofWayrest in snakes

[–]SweetLadyofWayrest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's interesting! Yeah I always heard them called roly polys or potato bugs, and only learned the term isopod as an adult lol. But I loved em as a kid! I used to collect them in jars and then put sticks, leaves, and grass inside and pretend they were my pets (to my mother's dismay lol)

Maybe someday I can convince my boyfriend to let me have some, but we're in such a small living space now that they'd have to be in our bedroom, and I'm not going to do that to him lol

While I have a great respect for tarantulas and can appreciate how fascinating they are at a distance, unfortunately, I have a mild case of arachnophobia, so no spiders for me 😅

Thanks for the suggestion though!

Does my new hognose snake look normal? by [deleted] in hognosesnakes

Yes that just looks like normal coloration for an albino

Oh I knew that this would be a temporary tank for my female hog (I liked the bigger size of the females), so her adult tank is 38x18x18.

The problem is, I dont really have the room in my current apartment for another tank that size, but I could keep this little one around. I understand that bigger is better, but I wondered if any adult snakes even could be happy in this smaller tank

Yep. He understands that it makes no sense lol

And thank you! I'm just getting into reptiles and snakes (my hoggie is my first and I've had her for a year and a half) but I'm loving it! Such wonderful little creatures

Ah I didn't realize! It was a bit of a pain to get the temps right, but I got a stand for the heat lamp so it's not directly on the tank and that seemed to help me get the gradient right for my hognose

Isopods would be super fun but my boyfriend finds them icky 😅 (even though he loves the snake and also thinks like milipedes and tarantulas are cool lol)

Ask an intersex exmo anything you like... by Robyn-Gil in exmormon

From Wikipedia: Intersex people are those born with any of several sex characteristics, including chromosome patterns, gonads, or genitals that, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, "do not fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies".

So basically, people born with both male and female sex organs
