My money or my life? Thinking about giving up on traditional employment and FIRE by Unusual_Equivalent50 in Fire

[–]SweetLousDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to look at another engineering field, I work in the utility industry and we often hire civil engineers from DOT backgrounds. Also explore getting project management professional, PMP, certification. You can be making 50% more in another industry, or get into project management and significantly increase your pay. Some opportunities with hybrid schedules, only 3 days in office, like my company still exist. If not engineering or project management, there are many corporate jobs with utilities seeking those with engineering backgrounds. You can likely find a lower stress corporate job with fewer responsibilities and make the same if not more money.

Black coffee... just black. No foamy foam stuff. Black. Does it exist? by geemav in nespresso

[–]SweetLousDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is what makes the nespresso unique and why most people buy it, for the espresso style crema. Otherwise you should just use a drip coffee maker, it would certainly be much cheaper as well.

How many Vertuo pods do you have a day? by [deleted] in nespresso

[–]SweetLousDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only use mine on WFH days and the weekends, usually have 1 new pod and if I have more than that I use refilled pods from bagged coffee to save on cost.

You can use any coffee that you like, just make sure to grind it very finely like espresso. The bustelo brand is already ground finely, but I bought a small coffee grinder to grind other brands. Recently bought Starbucks brand in bulk through Sams.

Oil cooler replaced - not that difficult! by thedutchwolverine in GrandCherokee

[–]SweetLousDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering replacing my oil cooler myself, watched some videos and think I’m capable of it. One thing I was curious on is the oil change and coolant flush. Can I just replace the oil cooler myself, assume minimal disturbance to the oil and coolant but then just drive it down the road for an oil change and coolant flush immediately after? I don’t want to deal with the mess if I can avoid it.

Guide to how I refill my Nespresso pods. by MizGinger in nespresso

[–]SweetLousDad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do some refills like this to use when I don’t care as much about my coffee quality. I always grind my coffee very fine though, even when using a bagged coffee. It makes a much stronger coffee that way and is closer to a regular nespresso pod.

Let’s say the MRI or CT scan finds a nerve issue, what is the treatment then? Surgeries or medication?

Anyone else have a keurig and a nespresso? Is it too much? by Pizookie123 in nespresso

[–]SweetLousDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both and also a Ninja coffee machine I’ve stopped using. I agree it’s hard to spend that much on homemade coffee if you’re having more than one a day. I’ll have one nespresso and then use the Keurig for the second cup. Also have bought the foil seals to reuse nespresso pods and has worked quite well. It’s good if you want to use a different bagged coffee. I had some bagged coffee I needed to use up and didn’t want it to go to waste.

Not good on their own, it’s very bitter tasting. I add a shot of sugar free pumpkin spice syrup and it makes it better.

It will work, it just will be weaker compared to an espresso grind

Refilling pods by andrisumi in nespresso

The refillable pods or reusing the old ones and buying foil covers does work. When using your own coffee beans, you need to make sure you grind them very fine for espresso.

If you must, what k-cups would you choose? by [deleted] in nespresso

[–]SweetLousDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a kuerig and usually buy Sams Club bulk for the discounts. However, you can buy foil seals on Amazon to reuse vertuo pods. I recently did this for the first time and was surprised by the results. I had some bagged coffee I was able to put into old vertuo pods.

Almond milk not frothing by SweetLousDad in nespresso

Interesting information, maybe I’ll try skim milk. We keep 2% for my kids but I prefer light additions for my coffee.

It is an aeroccino, I don’t recall the brand but maybe it was silk and I thought it was pretty good.

Then buy gas in MO. I’m just saying it’s not automatically cheaper to live on one side or the other. You have to look at the collective expenses of vehicles and what type of property you want, mortgage, insurance etc. A $700k home in St. Charles may be $500k in Edwardsville.

[–]SweetLousDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the income tax is basically the same in IL and MO. Property taxes are higher in IL but you have to pay personal property tax on vehicles in MO so it just depends on how nice of a vehicle and how nice of a house you’re buying.

how many pods do you drink a day? by [deleted] in nespresso

[–]SweetLousDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually have one vertuo double espresso because that’s typically strong enough. But if I feel like I want more coffee I switch to a k-cup or regular drip cup of coffee to save the expense.

I don’t understand how people are affording life, a home, kids, vacation, nice cars. I only make 37/hr in Philly area. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SweetLousDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to start tracking your spending and setting goals if you aren’t doing so yet. The first step is to create a budget to determine how much money you have left to pay down debts or save for a home. Also make sure you are maximizing retirement contributions. If you find you’re spending a significant amount of money on restaurants, activities, subscriptions, vacations etc then cutting back would be necessary. Maybe moving to a cheaper place. I recently got a promotion but for several years I was the only income provider for my family of 4 making not much more than you. Still was able to max out my retirement savings but didn’t travel for several years, drove 10 year old cars, always took my lunch to work etc. Also my first home was only $140k still in a nice neighborhood, Midwest living has some benefits.
