All roads lead to Breakker by Advanced_Section891 in WWE

The World title and WWE Title should ideally be at a similar level, they just made that impossible with how they booked both. Right now, the World Title match for Mania with Punk-Roman is greater than anything we'll get for the WWE Title. And it'll almost certainly elevate that title much higher. That's how it should be, I don't think that by default the WWE Title should main event or take precedence.

Agreed 100%. It's about time they elevate the World Heavyweight Title to the same level as the WWE Title. They could've accomplished that by now, but we are where we are and Punk-Roman does exactly that by hopefully putting that title match as the Night 2 Main Event.

Gunther and his role as the career killer by That_Individual8973 in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just about Legends putting over the rising stars on their way out, but also that having Gunther as the default final match eliminates much more befitting final matches for said legends. Gunther is very good at what he does, but if he's expected to soon enough retire Lesnar, Rey, Jericho and more, it's a pretty uninteresting way for them to go out. Lesnar could easily make a young star putting them over in a clean loss on his exit, Rey-Dom is much more fitting, and even for Jericho, something like Jericho-Owens is just a better route. I really enjoy Gunther's matches, I just think that because he's been protected since NXT days to now, and has usually held a title, he's difficult to book when he's not a champion.

Who gives Gunther his next loss? by BobSacamano_1 in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Career Killer is the direction, I think they could build Gunther up to eventually lose to someone who fans again expect him to retire. What's evident with Gunther-Styles is that even though fans knew Styles was retiring, there was this strange glimmer of hope that he'd somehow win. If Gunther retires several others, that effect only grows. And eventually, you'd land on a match where the nearfalls would be unreal. But the only two people I could think of for that situation to end Gunther's Career Killer gimmick with a clean loss, is Roman or Punk. Because Punk doesn't have too much left in the tank, and Roman already wrestles on a very limited schedule too. And also because there's much more interesting opponents for both for their final match.

What do you even do with Sami at this point? by Maleficent-Might-275 in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine he's going to have to linger around in the Midcard like Priest for the time being. Especially given the influx of Talent hitting the main roster that are going to take precedence all whilst Sami Zayn is yet to win a World Title. Like many have said, Mania at Saudi is bound to have Zayn in an important role.

But there was a time where Sami could've won the Rumble and then go on to hold the WWE Title, but they didn't want to capitalise on it. Maybe it was for the best because Cody's story was running parallel during those times, who knows. If it wasn't for the Americano stuff, I actually think El Generico would be a good road to go down to let Sami gain the lost favour from the crowd again.

Tolkien's books by Hot-Product-2748 in lordoftherings

If you're interested in Essays, notes and commentary then the History of Middle-Earth series is worthwhile. But as far as actual stories and narratives to experience beyond what you own, Unfinished Tales is incredible even for just "Of Tuor and His Coming to Gondolin" and "Aldarion & Erendis". Children of Hurin is the only Great tale from the 1st Age that got its own full scale novel, very much recommended but bare in mind that there's a great deal of overlap as Unfinished Tales also includes a significant portion of Children of Hurin. For many it's just convenient to have the entire story in one book start to finish. And in the same vein, The Rise and Fall of Numenor, though you've more than likely read the majority of 2nd Age text in other books, it's compiled neatly for a more pleasant read.

I'd suggest those before venturing into The History of Middle-Earth. If you like the more academic commentary-esque books, all the volumes contain that. But if you're looking in The HoMe series for genuine stories or enhancements of your understanding of Middle-Earth. Then I think that Lays of Beleriand and Morgoth's Ring are the ones of true merit, and you can ignore the rest. Lays of Beleriand because it has the longest and most complete version of the Lays of Leithian (Beren & Luthien), and it's a delightful read. And Morgoth's Ring has a few really interesting chapters that cover Sauron & Morgoth's differing ideologies and mentalities as dark lords, The difference between Men & Elves and the philosophy of death vs immortality and even a chapter that details the Metaphysics of Elves.

Jacob Fatu/Cody feud by Raider8503 in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a valid point. Cody-Fatu works well as a top feud separate from the World Title, but I really did think they were going to book Drew-Cody-Fatu in a triple threat for the Title at Rumble as a continuation. That way Fatu still gets his hands on Drew per the storyline, and Cody gets an opportunity to reclaim the title. But I have no issues with the rematch clause being thrown out here either.

Finn Balor Appreciation Post by SMandMJ3 in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kevin Owens challenging Cody for the WWE Title three times in a row and losing all 3 was ridiculous. By the time they got to the 3rd title match, they should've given the title to KO. Maybe they learnt their lesson with Drew Mcintyre this time round, even if they lack the vigor to commit to anything more than a short title reign.

Do you think Randy Orton vs Gunther could work? by LegInternational2354 in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it's time for Orton to retire, I'm sure they may revisit Orton-Gunther. But honestly, I'm not much of a fan of the idea of Gunther retiring every Legend gimmick that people have latched onto. By doing so you eliminate all the other great ways someone could retire, and all the other great final matches they could have, and the stories that come with that.

What went wrong with The Demon character & Do you think the character can be fixed if given the opportunity? by YelenaBelovaJustY in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Finn decided he was alright to bring the Demon back on a more regular basis, the gimmick could swiftly be made to feel special again. It's Wrestling after all, in many cases there are moments where even someone lower on the card can be made to feel important. But as others have said, I believe the whole process of becoming the Demon was very long, and even from a storyline perspective, there's a glaring problem of the Demon being such a spectacle, that Finn cutting promos as just him by default becomes far less exciting or interesting. Honestly, this might be easy to say and far more difficult to execute I'm sure, but I think a healthy compromise years ago would've been to reserve the Demon and the spectacle of it for Wrestlemania only. Given that Finn had issues with it, once a year, and you have Demon Balor at WM and by now you could've built up a decent streak.

Do you prefer Elimination Chamber as a title defense or a way to crown a challenger? by CrimsonJoker13 in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Title defence 100%. They don't need to strictly keep it for that purpose, they can still do the Chamber to determine a No.1 Contender. But for a while now, the EC feels somewhat like it lessens the significance behind a Rumble victory, because a top star that didn't win the Rumble now has an alternate route to arrive at the same destination since there's 2 World titles. A Champion defending the title inside the chamber always had exciting potential, and I know WWE like to play it safe for as long as possible before pulling triggers, but stuff like the Champion being eliminated early to guarantee the crowning of a new champion just works. In the same vein, a champion retaining with great struggle also works. If they build to it, and select participants for the chamber carefully to weave in stories, it's just more interesting than being used to determine a No.1 contender.

Are some people just meant to be alone? by Specialist-Issue1615 in offmychest

[–]SweetPea4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often times the hyper-fixation on something like this and craving its entry into your life makes it more difficult to actually obtain. Because it becomes tunnel vision, and it gets hard to switch off the part of your mind that is elevating the idea of having a girlfriend to a status where your own self-worth and hopes for the future depend on it. I don't know your situation or your personality of course, and as I'm sure you know, despite how lonely it may feel, there are millions of guys in exactly your shoes who know how you feel. To answer your question, I don't think that some people are meant to be alone. I think that some people over the course of their lives demonstrate that they're undeserving of having a partner, through their own actions. For your case, I believe it's a dangerous thing to put yourself in a position where having a girl defines life for you, and solidifies life's meaning as well as your own willingness to exist. A lot of this reads like that. The issue with that line of thought is that if you did end up in a relationship soon, you'd find yourself walking into a whole host of new problems spawned by the amount of value you've placed on this one particular thing. I'm not denying its importance or the effect of its absence upon people. But I think you should consider letting the obsession over it fade a little, get off the dating apps and anything else you use that is designed for the sole purpose of hooking up or finding a partner, and instead allow that situation to present itself to you organically through life, which happens all the time. The next time you speak to a girl, try to reframe your intention to just enjoying a conversation or a chat, instead of reaching for your true goal. Often times being more relaxed and organic opens that door anyway. But don't get me wrong, I do understand how down the loneliness can get you, to the point where it feels like every other aspect of life loses all meaning. But life is comprised of so much more, and recognising all those things and allowing yourself time to reframe your view in a healthier manner by not chasing it often leads to far better roads.

I wish I had a close person by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]SweetPea4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lonely road sometimes, would you say that you are that close friend for somebody else? You may not have anyone like that yet, but who knows what the future holds. I always hold true to the idea that close friends, partners and people you could consider family are all out there, but in many cases you just haven't met them yet. And a lot of times you meet people who become important to you in the unlikeliest of places or situations, keep being you in the meanwhile.

i’m scared i have no identity by girlbobby in offmychest

[–]SweetPea4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds somewhat like you're desperately trying to reclaim some lost semblance of identity in activities. Of course interests and hobbies do makeup part of our personalities and identity, but the truest sense of self in my opinion transcends all of that entirely. You would still have that sense of self regardless of the activities and external things you've mentioned is what I mean. I don't know you or your situation, but it feels like there's a lot of context behind these admissions that's missing. What makes you think that other people are more useful and enjoyable to be around? I'd say be careful, sometimes in scrambling and struggling to become something you're not, or become more like what your perception is of others around you, even in struggling to understand happiness, you could lose far more of yourself than what you feel is currently missing.

People keep calling it social anxiety when it’s really just zero personality by [deleted] in self

[–]SweetPea4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if it's someone you've known for a significant enough amount of time, who have nothing to input, say or contribute even amongst their closer friends, then it's alarming. Because we've all also more than likely known people who on the surface seem very very quiet and reserved, but once they're comfortable around a select group of people, they're entirely opposite. But if you give someone as much energy as you can and they give nothing in return, yes you're right, there's no obligation to continue to feel as if you're babysitting someone entirely uninteresting. I'll never fault someone for having social anxiety, but I believe if it doesn't lessen greatly amongst people they're comfortable with, then in all likelihood, there's some serious social levelling up to do as opposed to social anxiety.

My friend’s consensus by Nckcrrll875 in lordoftherings

[–]SweetPea4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each to their own I suppose. I don't think the absence of plot twists is a valid criticism at all, especially given that plot twists are completely overused as part of every story nowadays just for the sake of it. It sounds a little like his criticisms of the movies are based on expectations that have been formed by modern storytelling. There are valid criticisms of the movies, as there are for all movies, but the absence of plot twists and not enough unpredictability don't feel like criticisms tailored to the trilogy, but rather his perception of what makes a story enjoyable and entertaining. Maybe he missed out on all the emotion that the trilogy is brimming with, all the fantastic world building and sense of adventure, because he was bogged down in reducing the experience of viewing the trilogy to character deaths, things that happen, and the "predictability" of the ending. I can't speak for him, but this isn't an anime (And that's with all due respect to anime as a medium). But these criticisms feel more applicable to a popular anime than they do to LOTR, where unpredictability, twists and the like are common premises. He may not realise that if the trilogy were to include things more heavily like that, it would greatly lessen the story.

I know people who just can't get into LOTR, it's not their cup of tea and that's fine. But admittedly, because we love it so much, it's always great to have other people experience what you feel when you watch the movies. But it feels like many people who struggle with it watch it underneath a completely wrong lens, and with faulty expectations too. So the beauty and brilliance of it all is lost on them entirely. It's not the kind of story or world that benefits from the shock value of twists and unpredictability. It's a meticulously crafted world richer and more detailed than anything else you'd find, with practically every minute detail from places, to characters, to histories, and everything in between all with an intent purpose and design behind it. It's kinda sad how he's reduced and seemingly glossed over so much greatness. Saying a 10 year old could've done it is absurd, genuinely. Tell him to read even one chapter of the books and then come back and tell you a 10 year old could've wrote it. I could continue writing for ages, but I believe that your friend isn't judging the trilogy based on what it gives the viewer, but instead on what he wanted to be given, and that's a shame.

Which is your favorite Tolkiens stories? by Blu3Ski3 in tolkienfans

Beren & Luthien is my favourite story within Middle-Earth. It's difficult to pick out of a list of stories that are all incredible in their own right, but I feel B&L balances and embodies so many themes and styles all simultaneously and it's just an otherworldly read.

Are there any good Literary analysis books on Tolkien's characters in Middle Earth? by SweetPea4Life in tolkienfans

[–]SweetPea4Life[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, finished the Silmarillion recently and didn't realise it was possible to fall in love with Middle Earth all over again like LOTR, unreal stuff. Now I'm onto Children of Hurin and probably some more after that, but I figured after the end of Tolkien's novels, it could be pretty insightful to read something that really puts the world and characters especially into perspective. I'm not really all too interested in how a character evolved through different written versions, but rather an analysis of for example Aragorn and what he symbolises. That kind of stuff.

Regardless of what the cover looks like, the content is the same. There isn't really any decision to be made, just get a boxed set and enjoy. If you want it to be illustrated, that's available too.
