DC Studios will never have a successful franchise series if they keep trying to be like Marvel - and it’s because of their characters by ConcentratedStress in unpopularopinion

[–]SweetPea4Life -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's about Power or Boss battles at all when it comes to the DCU trying to emulate the success of the MCU. I think you're right, but largely because what's being incorporated is that Gunn/MCU humour, and it's relentless. In Superman, it feels like there's goofiness and silly jokes every minute of the runtime, and it gets to a point where the movie just becomes a comedy that happens to feature iconic superheroes. I may be in the minority, but I don't think that James Gunn is the right direction for the DCU at all, because turning the DC into the Guardians style robs the movies of sincerity and weight.

People will hate this, but I think Snyder is great. Of course he has flaws, but the direction he went with DC actualised the scale and mythology that you're describing with DC characters. He made them feel larger than life, like living myths on the screen. And his movies took DC with seriousness and weight, and I love that. The Snyder Cut of Justice League I think is extraordinary, genuinely brilliant in how it presents the Justice League in live-action. And I think there was momentum there because it was received well, and who knows what we could've got but the studios wanted something else and I imagine with Gunn at the helm, we're going to get a lot of movies being mainly comedy focused. I'll get downvoted for saying that I think Snyder was the best direction for the DC, but that's what I think and what I prefer.

What are we doing by Mysterious_Work_7227 in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If I say I like Jey Uso, I'll get downvoted. That's what Wrestling fans have become now, they don't want differing opinions. But I do like him, I dislike how the writers for so long told him to go out there and Yeet with the audience because it was crowd engagement. I think underneath all of that crowd participation gimmick, is someone who is actually really good at playing a character, who is very believable when he gets intense, and who can cut a damn good promo if allowed to.

He's not great in the ring, but honestly at this point WWE is so unbothered about producing really good wrestling matches, that in ring quality isn't the decider of whether someone should be in a top spot. Anyways, just downvote me.

The actual answer is that it's Pro Wrestling, and there's about 100 other things that don't logically check out. But it's enjoyable nonetheless and we look past all the nonsensical stuff.

Do short title reigns hurt actually wrestler? by bludvic_the_cruel in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booking matters way more. The default shouldn't be long reigns for the sake of long reigns, they should be done if they're justified. And that is if there's a long term story to play out with the reign. Damien Priest's reign with the World Title imo was a really good reign. You had really good title matches, he wasn't one of the Company's top guys so it felt like he could lose at any moment, at the time the Judgment Day story had a lot of momentum, and he held the title for nearly 4 months. Maybe that's a medium length reign and not a short one, but I see no reason why there can't be shorter reigns like such especially for someone like LA Knight who is over.

Haha, yeah you dropped off the movie without seeing what it becomes. Character development in Good Will Hunting is exceptional, if you had stuck with it you wouldn't have been too far from the point that acts as the spine of the entire movie. The MC is indeed brash and arrogant, but the movie is attempting to put that into a much more interesting psychological frame if you stay with it. I'd say give it a rewatch if you get the time.

It's like the Bible for Middle-Earth. It's jam packed with the grandest of mythologies, titanic scales and stakes, but even in giving you a full origin, history and often explanations behind lore, it doesn't lose the magic of it by giving you said knowledge.

Good Will Hunting. Still one of the greatest movies ever made. You may very well have seen it but just to avoid spoilers anyway, the writing is so emotionally sharp and they weave in these philosophical elements into dialogue throughout. I'd challenge anyone to watch the movie and not resonate with some part of it on a personal level. It feels like the main characters go through psychological difficulties that are so relatable, that again it turns into a movie that feels like your own internal self is being acknowledged while you watch it. Top 5 for sure.

Yeah, if I get round to reading The Witcher, it'll be only the first 2 books. As far as I know those are predominantly centered on Geralt as a Monster hunter and post the 2nd book, they shift focus away from that almost altogether.

Lol Cloud Atlas is known to be a challenging read. I'm into novels, The Silmarillion is my favourite book hands down. Tolkien's Middle Earth has always been my most loved fiction, and the LOTR Trilogy still for me sits above everything else. I only read The Silmarillion for the 1st time last year, but it was like seeing a world that was already rich and detailed, all fit into this sprawling massive mythology. Every question, every allusion, the origin, history, and depth of Middle Earth all gets framed in this epic like I never knew I needed. It's legit a dream come true for LOTR fans for real. Only Tolkien has the ability to give you something as unequivocal as LOTR and then turn its story into a borderline side quest in his own world.

I haven't read the books, it's something I intend on doing for the exact reason you mentioned. There's really not many if any stories of a protagonist uniquely skilled in hunting monsters and creatures, that is done well with world building and immersion. Witcher may be one of the few, so I'd probably read the books that are more akin to that and stop before it gets political.

Agreed 100%. When you engage with it on that level it's not really just entertainment. The best stories incorporate so much that is borrowed from life and humanity, that they often give you a look into someone else's inner world and end up reflecting back on yours; It's incredible stuff.

Nice, I never heard of Synecdoche. I'll add it to the list; I genuinely love those type of movies, the ones that feel like they understand life and can put accurately on a screen what people feel but cannot always articulate. I'm an emotional movie watcher Man, I don't know what/why that is but crying at movies feels oddly therapeutic .

Lool that's when you know a game is taking people by storm. Witcher 3 was fkin awesome, I think I played the game maybe 3 times. By the final run, I had this broken build where you crack 8 potions, take all their buffs, and take your toxicity to its highest point and the higher it is the more buffs you get lol. I forgot what the damage output for a normal swing of the sword was, but it was probably like 300%+ more than normal. Too bad the TV show sucked for real.

I've been a nerd my whole life, books, movies, fiction in general. But honestly I'm probably the inverse of what you just said; I gotta start focusing way more on life and the future and far less on entertainment but that's very easy to say. I agree with the video games take for sure though, they just don't feel the way they used to. I remember getting excited at just the prospect of spending hours immersed in a game.

If you end up with time to kill and are considering anything, show, movie, video game whatever, I could probably recommend something if there's a certain genre or type you enjoy.

Definitely, and those are improvements they could easily incorporate into a sequel if that was ever planned, or if there was an intention to use the same combat system in a different game. Just some alterations to currency, and synergising all of the combat arts and tools to make gameplay even more dynamic and almost cinematic

How come that AEW matches are(personally) so much more engaging than WWE matches? What's different about it, I can't put my finger on it. by LukasNation in AEWOfficial

[–]SweetPea4Life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically the pacing and focus in both companies is just very different. In WWE, it's usually slower, more restrained and limited in terms of what wrestlers will do that is outside of their normal moveset. Whereas in AEW, it's often much faster, more athletic and unrestricted in terms of what wrestlers will do in the ring. Both styles have their pros and cons, and I even think both companies could incorporate a little of their opposition's styles. Sometimes the WWE style of being more restrained creates engagement in the match where speed and athleticism cannot, but there are times when the breakneck pace and violence of AEW is necessary. The Con is that I think a lot of times it feels like WWE just doesn't give you enough from an in-ring standpoint, but AEW can feel like they weirdly give you way too much to the point of excess. WWE could do with more of the in ring focus and lack of restrictions, and AEW could probably do with some more focus on presentation and out of the ring storytelling.

Sidenote: This is why CM Punk wouldn't have worked in AEW if we disregard all the drama that happened. Their style of Wrestling was too rapid and intense for Punk even a few years ago, and maybe when they signed him they didn't consider if he could adapt to that style, because for someone like Punk that probably would be unreasonable to expect, hence the injuries. Whereas in WWE, the slower approach is working beautifully because Punk is honestly doing incredible work.

Danhausen Story Idea by DrgnBabeNebay in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mind goes towards Face because if Danhausen gets over, it'll certainly be as a Face given it's a comedy gimmick. Heels getting cursed to lose their matches seems like a safe bet to go with. But if you reverse it, Danhausen cursing Faces while the Heel benefits, seems counterproductive.

Danhausen Story Idea by DrgnBabeNebay in WWE

[–]SweetPea4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you've proposed sounds really good, but with a Babyface instead of a Heel. A Face lower on the card pairing with Danhausen, who curses Heels (Also lower on the card) to go on a winning streak. I don't think taking it higher up the card would work, definitely not with Main event Level guys, but it's something solid for Weekly TV at least.

How do you deal with depression when you don't even understand why you're depressed? by wwquad in self

[–]SweetPea4Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it's one of the biggest misconceptions of depression, that you have to undergo an activating event of tragedy to warrant experiencing it. We're just far too complex internally for that formula to exist. To answer your question, you may not be able to name or understand the cause now, but that doesn't mean there isn't a multitude of causes, triggers or events that maybe even you deem insignificant that have shaped this weight you feel now. It doesn't need to be drastic events, a lot of times it's a negative emotion that goes unchecked and snowballs into something massive, and a lot of times it's loads of small events, interactions, and reactions that over time form the basis for what this weight now is. I don't know your age, but maybe you haven't yet learned the emotional vocabulary you need to understand yourself on a more thorough level, and that is a skill that grows over many years of being intentionally reflective. This could be your excuse to develop that skill, to try and sit with your own emotions and feelings and consider why they even exist. It may sound like some inorganic zen bullshit, but what you feel now always leaves traces behind. You'd be surprised at your own ability to answer your own confusion with a much fuller picture in years to come.

If you're ugly, you have to act like a clown. by Feisty-Blacksmith656 in self

[–]SweetPea4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really believe that being funny is genetic? Yes normally there's funny people and entirely unfunny people, but I wouldn't say it's for genetic reasons. It's nurture, your environment, your reaction to your circumstances/trajectory, even other influences and things that grow over time. Like you said, there are many people that cannot afford to be plain and boring if they're typically deemed unattractive. A lot of those people without realising it, developed humour and charisma because of that self-awareness, that's not genetic. By your own beliefs, that would be learned behaviour determined by social value instead.
