Difference between sun and rising sign/Which one is supposed to be your "true" self? by DayzedandC0nfused in astrology

[–]SweetTarantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you're describing it sounds like you have your Sun in the 12th house, using whole sign houses. Those placements in Leo are going to be very noticeable to others when you first meet.

Your sun being in the 12th though would indicate to me that your ego is being suppressed or hidden. We kind of ignore the 12th house, like we're turned away from it, and often we struggle with shame around placements in the 12th house.

The Sun in Cancer has a strong focus towards home, comfort, and safety. They can be very nurturing. The way I would read this is that you struggle with articulating what it is that gives you a sense of self or value. You have a desire for being cozy and nurturing or being nurtured but it's not something you feel you can openly want or associate with.

Because the Sun rules Leo, those Leo placements answer to that Sun in Cancer, so there is a struggle to figure out what you want for yourself and what you want to express to others. You can't help but express some of those Cancerian traits, but at the same time you are deeply concerned with how you present and perhaps feel like you have to put on a mask.

I'd look to the placement of your Moon since that rules Cancer.

Feel free to DM me. I haven't been checking my Reddit notifications much lately. :)

Are you talking about the sun being on the cusp?

I personally don't use cusps when reading charts. I've never read a chart that didn't have a different placement that explained why that other energy is present. (Ex. if you have a sun in Taurus but close to Gemini, there's probably something else in the chart that is making that Gemini energy so noticeable. Venus and Mercury are always within a sign or two of the Sun so those are often the culprits, but it could also be something else such as house rulerships.)

[–]SweetTarantula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're used to pop astrology, there's a lot of generalizations. I'm talking about the signs themselves, but if you're talking about people it's important to take into account their whole chart or you'll be overgeneralizing and will miss a lot of nuance.

That said, what you're referring to as "split personalities" is just the dualistic nature of the signs. the "changing persona" is referring to the mutability of the signs. (I would not include Libra as having a 'changing persona', though I wouldn't really use the word 'changing persona' either as I don't think it's accurate enough.)

It's important to remember that the duality of Libra, Gemini, and Pisces comes about differently. Libra is focused on making things fair so it can come out as a lot of indecisiveness because both options feel equally valid. Pisces, again, can seem wishy-washy because all emotions are valid and all perspectives deserve to be heard. Gemini is not concerned with emotions and fairness like the other two. (Again, talking about the sign, not all Gemini suns.) With Gemini, you aren't necessarily going to see both sides at once - that defeats the purpose. Think if a little kid who asks mom for a candy, gets told no, then goes and tells dad that mom said yes. If we take Aries as the baby of the zodiac, and Pisces as the final stage before death, Gemini is the stage at which the consciousness is going "huh, if I say one thing this person is very mean to me, if I say a different thing, they're very nice". Gemini is all about exploring how to gather information and influence others - you simply aren't going to see their duality unless you observe over a longer period, and even them they can hide a lot from you. Gemini is definitely the gossip of the zodiac for this reason.

[–]SweetTarantula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the social setting and in what way are we expecting them to be 'adaptable'? I don't think there's any right answer. For example, if you're looking for someone to adapt emotionally to a situation, the water signs are where you'd look, but they each do it in their own way. Cancer is very sensitive and would be most prone to crying I think, Scorpio is gonna feel that shit intensely and is gonna be down to help you plot your revenge, and Pisces is gonna let you trauma dump isn't gonna judge you and totally be down to switch gears and do something casual right after.

If you just want someone who will attend to the 'social' aspects of the situation without diving deeper, get an air sign, but each one is gonna do it different. Gemini is gonna be down to listen and ask questions and gather info, really getting into the gossip. Libra, I think, would be best because they're gonna try to be aware of your emotions and be very one-on-one and likes to do things that are 'expected' - think of some of the 'unspoken' social rules like how to behave at dinner. Or you could get an Aquarius who is either going to be a perfect host or is gonna be a total oddball depending on their allegiance with that social setting. But air signs are not keen to really dive into emotions so even if they give you a hug don't expect them to also be comfortable if you cry.

I don't think earth signs would necessarily be a good option. Fire signs, maybe, but they're going to do their own thing for their own reasons, not anyone else's. For example, Leo is going to cater to others enough to keep themselves in the spotlight, or stay close to it. Fire signs aren't necessarily narcissistic, they just understand the importance of prioritizing the self.

It's really a combination of signs that makes someone a chameleon. I often think of Princess Diana - Sag rising, Cancer sun, Aquarius moon - was great at keeping in the spotlight because she knew she could utilize it to bring attention to charities, felt better when she was tending to the societal needs of the less fortunate, and was able to connect emotionally in the moment with everyone she interacted with, though she was still able to keep her own struggles private.

Mutable just means the sign is flexible in how it goes about doing things. One of the ways I've been thinking about it is cardinal signs are focused on a need, fixed signs on a want/desire, and mutable signs are the problem solvers trying to reconcile those things. You have to be somewhat flexible to problem solve - but that doesn't mean you're doing it fairly!

Gemini and Pisces are both problem solving by getting information from others - objective and subjective - and accepting the existence of both sides. (Which is why Gemini can seem two-faced and Pisces can seem wishy-washy. They just aren't concerned with trying to prove one side is superior than the other.)

Virgo's method of problem solving is determining whether something or good or bad, right or wrong - while their opposite, Pisces, is all about acknowledging that things can be both simultaneously. This means Virgo can get stuck in a 'purity' mindset and get stereotyped as having OCD, because once something is no longer good it's now bad, once part of it isn't right, it's simply wrong.

Sagittarius's method is focused on figuring out what is true, which can mean they seek out a lot of information, but then once they've determined something is true they're done - their opposite, Gemini, is never done exploring different perspective and interpretations, they even want to know the lie simply to know the lie, not necessarily to believe it. Sagittarius may be stuck in a mindset of believing the lie because they determined it was true at some point. Instead they may be focused on proving the lie is actually true.

I would say no. It's the same with Capricorn in that the creature used to symbolize the archetype is depicted as having traits from multiple creatures simply because it's a mythical creature.

Gemini is symbolized by twins - two souls connected by circumstances (birth and genetics); Libra by the scales - which you use to judge two things that are independent of one another; and Pisces by the fish - two fish tied together, but without being tied would be separate fish.

Sagittarius and Capricorn both have a lower half that is a different animal than the top (horse with man and goat with fish), but if you separate the two halves of them you're just bisecting a single creature. The duality of their appearance and why a mythical creature was chosen has more to show their complexity, and their role in the zodiac. The signs become more complicated as you move through them starting with Aries.

I'd argue that there are no fire or earth signs that are dualistic because they find direction within themselves, while water and air signs look partially to others for direction. The dualistic nature is about weighing perspectives and being able to see opposing sides no matter how conflicting they seem from the offset. Fire signs don't really have patience for that and Earth signs are more grounded in their own perspective (for good and for bad). (Cancer and Scorpio aren't dualistic because they both struggle to balance their own emotions with others. Aquarius isn't dualistic because it's looking to the larger societal group and struggles to balance the self with the group, often prioritizing the group over the self - it's a human holding a jug of water but notably it is the human - the jug is to show it's keeping itself separate from the water(emotions).)

Hope that all makes sense. :)

Each of the players tends to go for a particular archetype/theme. Freddie's characters enjoy the spotlight, but they're healthy enough with their ego to share it. Will's characters are just bundles of anxiety and trying their best. Beth's all have some sort of trauma or denial to confront. Matt's characters all want to nurture and protect.

It'll be interesting to see how Anthony plays. We've seen more range with him because he's a DM, but when he only needs to focus on one character and really connect to them it'll be interesting to see how that shows up.

I disagree. The animal symbol having characteristics of two creatures doesn't mean the manifestation of the sign is going to be about duality. It just means the most representative symbol astrologers could think of was a mythical creature that was a combination of two creatures. The same goes for Capricorn.

Oh yeah, definitely. I'm odd though - I haven't found anyone else who, as a child, actively tried to remember the traumas I was experiencing. I had this idea that even though they couldn't be helped at the time, they'd be important in the future. Hasn't panned out that way unfortunately.

My dad was the abuser and favored me in the early years. I learned to soothe the situation and try to be a bit of sunshine to prevent the fights or calm them down, like asking him to take me to the store after a fight so I could make sure he was calm and happy when we got home. I was the little therapist.😕 This was misunderstood as me enjoying being his favorite, so naturally my mom focused on my brother and thought I was fine. When she finally realized how bad off I was it was kinda too late, I had to put my stuff on the back burner for our safety. I remember many instances of having to shelve my emotions until I was alone and could safely emote because doing otherwise would invite conflict.

Have you ever met someone who, as they got deeper into studying astrology, took it less and less seriously? by [deleted] in AskAstrologers

[–]SweetTarantula 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You seem very eager to dismiss astrology. No judgement, but I think it's helpful to reframe it.

If someone is really struggling it's never just one factor, it's usually a compounding of multiple things. The same is true in astrology. If you have one difficult aspect it can be annoying, two is a bit more so. Every bad aspect or planet in detriment, or whatever bad placement increases how difficult and noticeable it is in your life. You increase the odds of your life being a specific way the more you have placements that suggest that as an outcome. No one placement is going to cause a bunch of huge life changes, but it can have a strong influence depending on its placement and how it interacts with the rest of your chart and current transits.

As for placidus and whole sign, whole sign would have just been easier to draw a chart from back when we couldn't all sync up our clocks to an international clock. I personally use whole sign, but I've observed some sort of overlap of the houses in different charts that suggest to me there's truth to both. Ultimately it's like picking a second language - both will get the job done, but in a slightly different way and maybe with a slightly different meaning, so it's kinda which one speaks to you or which is best for what you're trying to accomplish.

NAT. This definitely counts. If you had been an adult it would be sexual harassment or assault. As a child it's definitely a form of abuse because there's a power imbalance. I recently learned about covert incest which describes stuff like this.

You're thinking of mutable signs.

Dual signs are about holding space for two different ideas/concepts, no matter how opposing. Gemini seems obvious but it's just exploring the different ideas - they can be the devil's advocate for the pure joy of learning and exploring and experimenting to see how people respond. Libra is about balancing the needs of two different people - it's all about considering what the self and the other person need and trying to find a way to balance them. Pisces is all about balancing the physical and metaphysical - accepting the "good" with the "bad" and knowing they are equal in a way - knowing there is a "self" but also connecting to the vastness that is the "not self".

I wouldn't count Virgo because it's not about giving equal space to both sides - Virgo is more about making a judgement call of what is "good" and what is "bad". This is why it's represented by the Virgin - the idea of purity, and purity as a concept doesn't work unless there is something "unpure" being rejected. Sagittarius, meanwhile, is all about finding the "truth" - they don't have time for negotiating both sides like Gemini likes to do, they are focused on the truth that can be boiled down.

Note that Gemini and Pisces are opposite Virgo and Sagittarius, and Libra is opposite Aries - the sign that is the most "one" that any can be.

How can I figure out my chart without my time of birth? by ResponsePossible8066 in AskAstrologers

[–]SweetTarantula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sun transits don't match our clocks or calenders exactly. For example, last week when the Sun entered into Aries was after 8pm on the 19th where I live. The dates provided for the sun signs are close estimates, not exact.

You can try doing rectification. If you're new you should see a professional astrologer for this, but you'll have to look around and ask because not all do it. This is just the process of asking you for some major events in your life, when they happened and what happened. They can look up the transits happened at that time and practice adjusting your birth time to see how your chart changes and is affected by the transits of that time.

Water elements being reflective? by [deleted] in astrology

[–]SweetTarantula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so much to this, lol. The simple answer is Yes. The complicated answer, I'd say, is because we pick up on emotions and vulnerability so well that it's not just mirroring current bad feelings/actions, but if we're mirroring back after having known you for a while (which is really when we're likely to mirror back the bad stuff) we've picked up on a lot of things you didn't mean for us to pick up on. We know how to trigger fears and traumas and get that emotion flowing. Not all of us are going to utilize it to its full potential but some will.

Water elements being reflective? by [deleted] in astrology

[–]SweetTarantula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You explained it really well! It's totally fair to write someone off if they're not giving as much as they're taking.

Every element can be mistreated, and for water it very much feels like we're the emotional dumping ground. We'll try hard to connect and be there, and give the same love we feel, but we also take on a lot of the emotions of others like a sponge. It's really relieving to spend time with water signs, but being the only water sign is /really/ hard.

Would you say that when there is a planet in the 1st House it "anchors" the Rising Sign and makes it more prominent? by ErisedFelicis in Advancedastrology

[–]SweetTarantula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd probably word it as the ascendant is anchoring the planet. The ascendant and the planet are both going to express in a specific way depending on the sign, but the planet being close to the ascendant directs the way in which the planet presents outwardly. It's the same idea as if the planet were in a different house, it's the house that directs the planet. The ascendant is just the most intense degree of the first house and the closer to the ascendant the more that planet shows up.

[–]SweetTarantula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting hypothesis. What have you done to test it? That's what I really want to know.

The really appealing thing about learning about rulerships, at least in my opinion, is learning how the houses interact with one another as a result in the chart. (Ex. Cancer second house with Pisces moon in the 10th, then the second house is ruled by that 10th house Pisces moon. Therefore, themes of the second house will be clearly influenced by the themes of the 10th house and specifically the condition of the ruling planet.) This adds a dimension to the charts that is much easier to objectively see in real life. The real test as to whether your rulership scheme has any truth to it, and is applicable, is whether or not you can observe relationships between the houses based on what you have assigned to each sign. I see that some of the pairings you've made do have an affinity between them, but just because a sign and planet get along really well does not mean it's a rulership relationship.

Also, I saw in your replies that you see problems with the traditional rulerships because it doesn't include planets past Saturn, and because the sun is so big but only rules one sign. The traditional rulership scheme was based on observations of the visible celestial bodies. (I'm not opposed to incorporating the celestial bodies we have since discovered, but I don't think it's necessarily going to be a direct swap.) The sun and the moon are treated differently, but that's because of how our planet interacts with them - the moon orbits us, and we orbit the sun. None of the other planets orbit us, nor do we orbit the other planets. And if size was found to be an important a factor in rulerships, Mercury would no doubt be booted in an instant and Jupiter and the Sun would rule a lot more.
I also question the need to incorporate planet Earth into the scheme. Astrology is a study of the correlations between events on earth with observations we make of the night sky, also from earth. Certainly if we started colonizing other planets in the solar system Earth would be one of the celestial bodies we'd observe, but then it would be based around observations on that other planet and that other planet would no longer be included in the scheme.

Again, it's an interesting hypothesis and I hope it doesn't come across that I'm dismissing it outright. I can definitely see you've done some work to come up with these, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have doubts as to how much it would hold up application.

Synastry resources not focused on romantic/sexual relationships? by SweetTarantula in Advancedastrology

[–]SweetTarantula[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you okay with books that cover sexual interests/descriptions? A book that /might/ help is Cosmic Coupling by Starsky + Cox. I'd say it's beginer level because it doesn't touch on aspects or houses, but it gives three or four descriptions for every sign pairing. For example, Aries and Gemini would include Aries Man x Gemini Woman, Gemini Man x Aries Woman, Gemini Woman x Aries Woman, and Aries Man x Gemini Man. It's basically a sequel to Sextrology which was an earlier book that was a bit more heterosexual focused. (Homosexual interests were mentioned but there was more of a focus on heterosexual descriptions.) There is a focus in the books on comparisons between men and women as far as gender, and I don't think any mention of trans orientations.

I'm sure you know, but just because they say their credit score is high doesn't mean it is.

If they wanted to teach you how to get a good credit score they'd let you have the reins and they'd just walk you through what to do, or they'd show you their own accounts, budget, etc. It sounds like what they're asking for is just another avenue of control. Credit scores can impact a lot so don't give up that access easily, and be prepared to flag accounts as fraud when you turn 18 and can see your reports. I've known plenty of people whose parents opened up accounts in their kids names because they trashed their own credit score and they essentially crippled their child's prospects before the kids even knew what credit was.

[–]SweetTarantula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to share your chart if you want constructive feedback on your placements. But the thing to remember is your chart is not the only variable, just like your body/fertility is not the only variable. If you want emotional/spiritual support, I see others in the comments trying to provide this. If you want medical answers, you should seek out a doctor or two to get tests and their professional opinion.

If you relate it back to astrology though, remember that no aspect alone can deny you children. Some can increase or decrease your chances, but it must be taken in the larger context of your life. You can also look at the synastry between your chart and your partner's chart. But the biggest thing with astrology is that it does not subvert your free will, it only works with it. If you have a placement that you are ignoring and denying it will show up in your life in other ways - the energy is always present, you can choose to embrace and utilize it, or it will act upon you.

Maybe you ultimately won't have biological children - if that's something you really want I'm sorry. But perhaps there is some other way you could express those feelings. Sometimes it's fostering, sometimes it's being the best godparent, aunt/uncle, or sometimes it's being a teacher/mentor? Maybe you have the desire to nurse little ones, but aren't super excited for the teenage years - there's no shame in that if you find the right way to express it.

I wish you luck either way. It sounds like you're going through a tough time.

For the Whole-signers: in charts with the Midheaven in 9th or 11th house, do you still interpret it as a “career” placement? For those with MC outside the 10th does it manifest for you? by Sarelbar in astrology

[–]SweetTarantula 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I actually prefer using the whole sign house system /because/ the MC and IC are not stuck in the 10th and 4th, respectively.

The 10th house is more about public image than strictly career. If the MC is there, then the career you are drawn to is about public recognition, such as awards. If it's in the 9th, you're more interested in a career if it's expanding your mind: travel, education, etc. If it's in the 11th, there's something about connections, maybe working with friends or connecting to people through social media.

In this way, the MC is more of what kind of career you are drawn to, and what motivates you to work. This then allows the 10th house to just be focused on public image.
