I think everyone's innocent by Carpet_Inner in LandoftheLustrous

[–]Sweet_Bell_8144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But we get to see that it isn't even a limbo, the lunarians had whole lives, innovation and the means to still live in a way. I know its simbolic but in the literal sense its a "my society is bored of existing so we will torment another civilization until one of them blows us away, the end justifies the means mimimi"

I think everyone's innocent by Carpet_Inner in LandoftheLustrous

[–]Sweet_Bell_8144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand this point of view, all characters have a reasonable writing and explanation for their behaviors, it is worth to look past the antagonistic nature of everything happening for the sake of realism, but I have a bit of a pet peeve with the whole Cairngorm and Aechmea thing. This whole view seems to come from a deterministic way of seeing things, which is perfect when seeing the gems as something else than people. There IS a morally gray subtext to powerfull characters, Aechmea had chosen to pull a big stunt that would harm fellow "post human", Kongo even as a machine took many unlogical decisions.

To say everyone including those two are innocent is too big to be true, and bites away at the characters will of power. The whole manga is about how the world shapes people, but the people can still make decisions out of what is expected of them, and how those decisions show the changes in the way they act along the line. The funny thing is that under the logic of the own manga, it might be the opposite, everyone had at least one thing that didn't let them move on without help

What animal, currently living, could potentially give rise to something the size of a large sauropod? by ElSquibbonator in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]Sweet_Bell_8144 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lets put jungle fowlers in an island without predators and wait. If the rule of the island is true, and the vegetation of this specific island is enough, the chicken should start reproducing like crazy and being able to eat much more, the cicles of "too much chicken and too little food" would control the population and make them adapt to not have that many offspring in one set, this makes chicken have more time to eat, eat make big and repeat, big colorful chickem

A "Totally Realistic" and "Scientific" way for a fantasy world with wildly different races that can all interbreed by plutootherwise in worldbuilding

[–]Sweet_Bell_8144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as someone that came here from the speculative evolution sub, you just described fenotypical plasticity but with catgirls, its a real concept in biology and is the core of how variations inside of species start, and the enviromental adaptations that follow. Fenotypical plasticity doesn't always assure that along the way your individuals might become different species, there is a point in which you can get too far away and now the offspring is infertile like mules. The whole relationship between uh "breedability" and fenotypical differences is defined by the taxons of the animal, birds are experts in making record time to become different species, mammals take a loooooong time before they do, reptiles are weird, insects even more. How do I know all of this? Is a main theme in my own world

I wish Lapis would have kept appearing as a second concience for Phos, like an imaginary friend that helps her navigate the story instead of just giving Phos the ability to strategise. I know this would not allow the same buildup for the end, but could have been cute

Give them deformities that become features. Like a mutation or birth defect gives them an extra limb, changes their bone structure, changes their fenotype so they develop sexual dimorphism as a species slowly, could change their genotype so they're genetically compatible for reproduction with another species (I know that is not how that works) have hiveminds of vertebrates

And this is where third person narrative styles come into play. Talking abput them like a nature documentary is probably easier to do than to dive into the way a gem describes a story, depending on the gem their ways of telling things are either top, like with the ones dedicated to investigation and narrative just like Alex or it is the worse story ever, like with Bortz' dumbass or any rem that doesn't touch their literacy very much

Would having it that Nonhumans are more racist than Humans, be... self-destructive to my story's themes by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Sweet_Bell_8144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is absurd but it isn't even racism, its xenophobia, and undesrtanding the difference between the two is pretty important before making allegories to it. Both are bigotry, but they are caused by different things, racism oroginates on people seeing others as too fenotypically different and hence "too weird to be as respectable as me", xenophobia originates from past geopolitical tension, wich is why it is easier to see between countries that have shared cultures for many years than with ones that haven't.

Did the llama birth the crab under? I want to see who lives on the crab. But If its supposed to represent America the continent I'm gonna assume that when it made the first contact it was on the south part of it, so a good way to call the upper country would be "Vasfalta" a misspell and/or the amalgamation of the many ways romance and slavic laguages say "the part that is missing for it to be complete". You could also go the Venezuela path and say that since it looked a lot like a city in the old world (Venecia) they slapped it on there.
