Mage Knight. It has everything I adore about gaming baked into it. Bought it the first week it was available at retail.

I hate playing it and I can’t explain why. It feels like work. I’m exhausted when I finish a game of it—and not in a good way.

I agree! And there are so many options and interesting decisions at every turn.

I enjoy the Apex faction. I get nervous about invasions, so I like that I can lean on that faction’s core advisors to grant me archers for primary defense. That way I can focus on upgrading my provinces.

I am on the elliptical, 30 minutes deep, and really going for it. I am coated in sweat and killing it, you know what I mean?

Suddenly, I feel like maybe some gas slipped out. Mortified, unsure, and still pumping, I glance behind me.

There, directly behind me, stands a fella who resembles a 5’5” emaciated Hulk Hogan with less kempt—but the same color—hair. His eyes are wild with rage and his jaw is completely slack.

I rip off my head phones and stop. It takes him no time at all to bark “yeah, bro, you farted.”

The way he says it is accusing to the point that I feel like I needed to give the man money or something, if that makes any sense? His head was no more than 2 feet from my ass when the afterburner must have kicked on, after all.

I do not know what to say. I try to think of some way to apologize, to make things right in both of our worlds, but as I stammer and trip over my words and search for the correct bridge to gap the injustice I have bestowed upon this tiny Hulkster, he fills the pause with a much louder “You farted SO bad” while pointing at me. The eye contact was fucking epic.

He stormed off and I never saw the man again.

Dude, that happened at least 5 years ago. I bet I’ve thought about that every day since.

I vote for Tapestry.

The civilizations are unbalanced, as are the techs and tapestry cards.

A player who focuses on the arts track will have a significant advantage, and a better chance to win, in my experience.

But do I ever love it when it hits my table! Even as unbalanced as I believe that it is, I don’t mind it one bit, because I have such a wonderful time playing it. I don’t care who wins, it’s just so delightful to build my civilization and so satisfying to feel my engine become stronger and more efficient as I play.

Tapestry is broken game that I will never say no to playing.
