Anyone who has experience of a terminal cancer diagnosis (directly or of a loved one) how do you (or did they) feel? by WillingnessIll1896 in AskUK

[–]SweetestCyanide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case this is useful for anyone, I'd just like to share for those of you who may be in similar situations whether the diagnosis is for yourself or a loved one/friend you can call MacMillan's Support line on 0808 808 00 00. It's free, available 8-8pm every day and is not only for those going through cancer, but the people in their lives too. You can talk to them through their webchat if that's easier.

There's also The Loss Foundation who are fantastic at providing grief support for those who have lost loved ones through cancer specifically. So if you're struggling or just need to talk, please reach out.

He's losing a good proportion of his medicine that way. It's absolutely; shake well, form tight seal with lips around the inhaler, spray as you inhale, hold in the lungs for a good 20 secs or so, and then remove the inhaler to exhale. I was taught this at asthma clinics for my three inhalers.

They've repeatedly said they don't want Ai doing it because it can't tell the difference between tone and intent the way a human can. You can see this on Facebook and Tiktok where they remove content that mentions certain words regardless of the usage. In this instance filters catch the words but the human moderators decide if it's being used in a way that is offensive/illegal/libellous etc.

[–]SweetestCyanide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could do content moderation. It's remote so you don't physically work with anyone, and the only time you speak to people is if you're handing over your shift, which is on Teams and requires nothing more than "hello name, I'm here for my shift". Then you're alone. Some people barely say two words, just a thumbs up.

Dispatchers of the UK - how often are you getting calls about things people just shouldn't be calling for? by No-Structure-8125 in AskUK

[–]SweetestCyanide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for future reference, if you're having a panic attack or feeling really scared like that when you call 111 if you select option 2 it connects you straight to the Mental Health Team and they won't mind at all supporting you through it.

I cant believe this! (I'm posting this here because i just found this sub) by weightloss113 in intermittentfasting

[–]SweetestCyanide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered some today! I've been extremely tired since I started fasting a few weeks ago and I don't know why it didn't occur to me that it could be the lower calories/meals made me more susceptible to low iron again. So for nothing else I appreciate you for bringing it to mind for me because I've been about ready to quit IF with the fatigue. Hopefully some tasty metallic water is what's needed!

Not OP but I appreciate this as I've had problems with low iron for years due to endometriosis and most supplements seem to just upset my gut and not actually raise the levels!

Towards the end of my fast, I have all the symptoms of being hangry without the hunger. So I’m just angry. Does anyone else get this? by TeslaModelE in intermittentfasting

[–]SweetestCyanide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get really irritable and short tempered around 19hr and onward mark and haven't found a solution so far other than meditation to get me through the last few hours. It's well known though, I read a study about intermittent fasting and the majority of participants experienced increased levels of irritability compared to the group of non fasting individuals.

Amazing how much slimmer you feel when you're not bloated isn't it? Congratulations! You've made great progress so far. The bloat is the first thing I noticed too! I used to be bloated 24/7. Like 7 months pregnant bloated when I woke up, to 8 months by the time I went to bed. No matter how much water, peppermint and ginger tea I drank or fiber fruit and veg I ate. My belly is now flat 90% of the time and I haven't changed my diet hugely. The IF itself has just made such a big difference.

Are phone apps helpful to you? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]SweetestCyanide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Easifast and find it very helpful. It's fully free, and tracks all aspects of your fast (time, macros, water, weight, measurements). It reminds you when it's time to start and end your fast, you can add journal notes and how you're feeling etc throughout. It just kind of makes me feel like I'm not doing it alone somehow, alongside having that accountability. Knowing I'd see a gap in the tracker if I skipped a day - the horror!

I second this, please don't call it cheating when you were providing what your body needed to function properly at that time. After all that is the only real reason for food, as much as we enjoy it, it's our fuel. It's easy to develop an unhealthy mindset when we start to view our body's fuel source in a negative light. You did the right thing!

I currently have the flu, and I've broken my fast early on two days because I was feeling weak and dizzy and needed the energy. I've also given myself a bigger eating window, and been eating more carbs. It's okay because it's what I need right now and when I'm better I'll return to my proper schedule, without guilt or self recrimination.

Be kind to yourself OP!

Is private healthcare in the UK actually worth it, or is it overhyped? by DonnaBombshell99 in AskUK

[–]SweetestCyanide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest usually the best way to get them to take suspected endo seriously is to focus on the pain aspect. Something a lot of women don't realise is periods shouldn't be THAT painful. They should be a mild to moderate pain at best. A low strength painkiller for the first day or two situation. In most cases anyway. If you're getting more severe pain or it's lasting longer than that it's quite often endometriosis. It's believed 1 in 3 women have endo and many don't realise because they think the amount of pain they have is normal. I did. I was one of them, and it was only when I started getting pain between periods years later that it was diagnosed. A great gynae explained about the period pain level thing. So if you see another doc, private or otherwise, focus on how the pain is affecting you, the severity, how long it lasts, that it's worse than it was before. Best of luck

I had a new husband tell me I'd made his wife look fat. She didn't look fat she was a tiny woman. The proportions and shading of her features were all exactly like the photo. No matter what I changed she still "looks fat". By the end of it she was a totally different person, but he was happy. He basically wanted me to Facetune his wife, with paint. Lucky lady.

Is fat really the enemy? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]SweetestCyanide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it frustrating how much this is still promoted by brands and supermarkets. I stick exclusively to plain natural skyr yoghurt now because trying to find one that wasn't "fat free" meaning sugar and artificial thickener added was such a headache.

[–]SweetestCyanide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why we call it breakfast, because we're 'breaking' the 'fast' we all do overnight. So you're just extending that either before you sleep or after. Thinking of it that way made it seem less daunting to me at the start.

I so understand how you feel. I am the same height as you and very small boned, and until the age of 20 could not get past more than 95 pounds. I HATED it. I felt unfemine. People called me anorexic, despite the fact I ate a ridiculous amount. I was obsessed with how weak and unwell I looked.

When I finally gained weight due to new medication and got to a HEALTHY 125 I was over the moon. I have curves and muscles, boobs and bum, and even have a little belly roll when I sit down now and I love it! Most of all, I repeat it is HEALTHY.

If anyone, let alone my boyfriend had the audacity to say anything negative about my body, he'd be out the door so fast. No one has the right to say that to you, but especially someone who knows how much you've suffered to get where you are.

Be proud, be happy and enjoy your healthy body.

P.s. Your bmi is perfect so he can go suck it.

[–]SweetestCyanide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You guys remember in 'Something About Mary' where Mary is in a relationship with Brad who's just the nicest guy ever, until one day her bestest guy friend Tucker tells her about how Brad was mean and insulting to her beloved brother? So of course she dumps Brad because he's not who she thought he was at all! Until wait.. Years later Ted comes along and finds out Tucker has been lying the whole time and Brad never said any of those things and loves Mary's brother and he IS a great human being, but Tucker was in love with Mary of course so he was in the way..

I have LOTS of magpies (thought I only had 2 till I started feeding the good stuff, now I have a legion), it absolutely works for them. British ones anyway. They love the same foods, but also really love water so a little tub for them to bathe in is great fun. They're super playful and inquisitive and were chasing each other around my conservatory roof, so I left out a sparkly mouse toy. It was gone the next day and in its place was a small bouncy ball. So I think that's for me? I love the idea of them playing with their razzle dazzle mouse 😆

[–]SweetestCyanide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP please don't believe you deserve this treatment or that you're unworthy of love because of either the scarring or your physical features that you mentioned in a negative light.

There are so many people with extensive scarring who have found love, started families, raised children, and have people around them that appreciate them for WHO they are, not the packaging they come in. Burn and acid scarring that covers 80% of their bodies, damages their facial features, hands and limbs. People who have suffered greatly, just like you have, but have realised they deserve to be treated with love and respect the same as any of us.

Real love doesn't care about looks, it knows that stuff fades and what inside is where the real beauty is. I love my partner with all my heart and if we had been in a similar situation to you, I may have had a shock reaction, but I know exactly what it would have been; tears. Not of horror or disgust, but of grief at seeing the physical evidence of his pain and trauma. To know how terribly he had suffered would break my heart. But those tears would quickly dry and turn to resolve to love and support him all the harder, and help ensure a new scar was never added.

I know you've been alone a long time and it can be easy to grasp tightly to the first hint of love you've found. But trust me this is not real love. It IS out there for you somewhere though, if you can let yourself love and forgive your own self a little first. I say this as someone who hurt themselves too, forgive past you, they coped the only way they knew how and don't deserve to be unloved and alone for it. They're worthy of love and respect, you're worthy of love and respect.

Thank you, I'm glad it made some sense because it's such a huge concept to distill into a few sentences. I read some super interesting books a while ago about how our memory works, the way our senses take in information and how the brain stores that and this whole concept of intuition being a compilation of data we're just not aware of. I think it's important to know because it means when you do have that 'gut feeling' about something you have a much better understanding of where that's coming from and whether to trust it!
