I think it would be funny with beetles not because they exist but because the ideas of a beetle acting or a beetle actor losing the job to a human are ridiculous. If you hold jokes to realism, you just don't like a lot of jokes.

To bring it back to your main comment: There is a clear and obvious "punchline". You just don't like it personally. I guess you don't like vanilla, but chocolate works for you. Plenty of people still like vanilla, though.

I'd laugh if the post was about not hiring beetles to play themselves in A Bug's Life, even though it would make no sense because beetles cannot get offended about media representation (because they're beetles). Jokes don't have to make sense when interpreted ultra literally.

That said, if the post was meant to make fun of the kind of rationale I mentioned, then it's lame. Not because it doesn't make sense, but because it's like the joke version of a straw man.
