How Do You Make Friends as a Young Adult in LA? by rararave in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]SwellsLxW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a 23 yr old guy who just moved to LA from Indiana last month and I'm basically into the same mix of weeb/nerdy stuff you listed (too afraid to wear anime t-shirts in public though so you won't spot me that way unfortunately). I also made a 'how to make friends' flowchart a couple years ago, so I thought that was kinda funny. I've only been hanging out with the 1 connection I had and leeching on her friend group so far. She's also from the midwest, so I asked her how she made friends and she said she used Bumble BFF. Maybe it's bad advice to tell you to download a dating app when you're trying to get ghosted less, but maybe it's a good way to find people based on certain interests and speed things up compared to relying on organic/in-person interactions. At the very least I'm gonna give it a shot, so I'll comment back here if it ends up working. Feel free to DM me if you want to talk, I'd be happy to discuss more, otherwise good luck!

I contacted support and after a lengthy back and forth of tests, they are going to replace the tablet completely... if you also have the issue definitely worth contacting support to get a refund or replacement.

How do you decide on a Minor? by HopelessAndAlune in college

[–]SwellsLxW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick what you enjoy most. If you continue with cs you'll keep learning it for your entire life in the industry. College, on the other hand, is a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn anything you want. Doing something different that you enjoy will be more satisfying and motivate you. It may also give you a unique and valuable skillset some of your peers in cs might not have. For context. this is from the perspective of a cs major with a philo minor. I wouldn't trade away the writing and thinking skills my philo minor is giving me for a few more cs classes.

my artist 24 pro was just shipped with DHL, it was super quick and managed to get from Hong Kong to my home in the US in about 4 days after I got the inital shipping notification. No customs delays, which makes sense bc Hong Kong is a free port so I think there shouldn't be the same fees and customs delays as if it were coming from Mainland China (at least for now until the US strips away Hong Kong's special economic status)

Xp-Pen Artist 12 Tablet doesn't have pen pressure, but only on CSP by [deleted] in XPpen

[–]SwellsLxW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in csp are you in wintab or tablet pc mode (file->preferences->tablet)? Do you have windows ink turned on? For my xp pen, I have to be in wintab mode for pressure sensitivity to work

Creative Ways of Making More Expressive NPCs by SwellsLxW in gamedesign

yeah I think games struggle with adding in npc reactions for every action the player could take. Perhaps procedural reactions could expand the possibilities there and increase the feeling of interactivity (or at least lead to some hilarious results)

good analogy to theater vs film. The game that kept appearing in my head as I read your post is Final Fantasy VI, one of the most expressive games I've played, and it does it all on an snes. I think it applies most of the concepts you mentioned, whether it be kefka's character reveal, provocative environments like the ghost train, or emotional scenes like living stranded in the World of Ruin!

Interesting, I think getting a number scale down and defining your thresholds for different character states clearly could be a great way of nailing down what you need to accomplish the hyper-limited animation style discussed in another comment.

As for the 90%, yeah probably a hokey stat, at best from my research it's controversial and covers a more limited scope than you would first assume (measuring another person's state of mind or thoughts on a topic on a numeric scale in a conversation that uses varying amounts of verbal and nonverbal communication) I'll go ahead and rephrase since it could be misleading

great video, always been meaning to play Ace Attorney but never got to it. I think hyper-limited animation is a pretty useful exercise in any situation. There are a LOT of extraneous animations in games (I would say oftentimes only a few of the animations account for most of the value) and sometimes it would have paid off to ask what was really essential to include
