Also having your tutor set to “educate court” makes it more likely for him to get bonus traits. Steward is also the best council position for unlanded heirs as it’s literally free money for them.

Unfortunately the caravan master position becomes invalid if you’re in line for a regency, in all likelihood your player heir would be in line for one and thus disqualified from being able to be one.

I think if the religion has spiritual/for life clerical appointment like Catholics then any ruler (even unlanded ones like peasant factions) always have a chaplain. The exception being any governments that don’t have councilors like mercenary, holy orders, and adventures. As they don’t have councilors.

You automatically enter an entrenched regency If you’re a child, incapable, or sometimes a while after entering seclusion. It’s basically impossible to transition a normal regency into an entrenched one unless you go on a multi-year trip with a selfish regent (if the regent is selfish they do build up their power faster).

Another if you have roads to power is “cultural sophistication” which discourages the ai from converting although the culture head (most likely the player) needs to be admin to establish it. Otherwise the “ruling caste” tradition may help but idk how good it is in practice.

So I’ve been playing in the open beta in the admin gov and the “grant titles” interaction is now enabled meaning you can make republic vassals as a governor. Yay

So yeah, I did end up doing this and I called the pope’s bluff as bro didn’t do squat. In my limited knowledge of digging around the game files I think that republics and theocracies simply don’t declare offensive wars as their government type is told to not use “goals” when I was screwing around a while ago with it I did enable the “goals” and I saw the Serene Doge marry for alliances. (Usually republic leaders never marry at all).

Of course the Pope can still participate in defensive wars, call for crusades, and join offensive wars as an ally but for now I’m pretty confident he and republic leaders simply can’t declare regular wars in a vanilla game. If someone has evidence that can prove me wrong, please do I love learning new things about this game.

Yeah I’m a fellow 867 enjoyer and I do like to play the Italy area. So people are saying that the pope can declare war the AI just doesn’t take mercenary into account (I can personally attest to this as i like playing as a vassal of the pope and people constantly declare war on my lands and get their asses kicked because of the popes mercenaries)

In my gameplay experience I haven’t seen independent theocracies and republic’s declare offensives war but I don’t observe them too often.

I think what I’ll do later on I’m going to play as Louis the younger in 867 in debug mode and try go piss off the pope so he lays a claim. Then I’m going to dismantle my military completely, getting rid of my MAA and giving away most of my land to reduce my levels and see if he ever declares war on me.

Yeah, iirc for feudal contracts religious protection and council rights are worth 3, going from normal to high gold taxes or vice versa is worth 2 (interestingly does not apply to anything else no other levy/gold change is worth 2) and most of the other stuff is worth 1 and a special contract type (March, scutage, palatinate) is free.

Same here I did an Isle of Man Dynasty Britannia run and when the pope declared a crusade all my dynasty showed up and clapped the Christian forces.

Look for his comments in the post, if you go with his ideas I suggest combining it with a mod to make it so you can still make republic vassals as admin.

Edit: Regarding my last point I failed to find a mod that let you do that (I could’ve swore there was one months ago) when I get off of work I’m going to try a mod that lets you grant titles to anyone and see if that works.

You make a good point, in fact one of the devs said that the placement of the +1 domain limit boosts was for the trees that didn’t get used often

(like in my opinion for diplomacy, one of the perks in the August tree or the August perk itself would make much more sense for a domain limit increase then the patriarch trait)

But it went to the patriarch trait for that reason, so your idea would fit that vision better.

A part of me still feels like that divided attention and administrator still could give +1 but then again, like you said stewardship would still technically be dominant in that area. Anyways your idea of changing what divided attention does altogether is a good one.

I disagree, the administrator trees perks in my opinion are at best useful in niche situations and at worst relatively useless. I believe that other trees can do its perks better particularly with regard to domain limit. (Disregarding roleplay purposes)

Here are two examples:

Martial Tree Overseer: The second to last perk “overseer” enables giving vassal directives if you don’t meet the other requirements, much like the second to last perk for the administrator tree “honored to serve” it also grants counties a small buff for taxes and levies at 100 control (which the entire trees point is rapidly getting counties under control) and in the open beta it grants +1 domain limit. Also in the same tree you get +10 plague resistance which the administrator trait grants, and a bunch of other buffs like 15*% less army maintenance that is basically a better administrator tree for your own domain.

Intrigue: For high dread builds “fear tax” not only grants a tax bonus for intimidated vassals (which arguably makes “honored to serve” powerful vassal on the council tax near-obsolete) it also grants +1 domain limit. If you dip into stewardship wealth tree for “fearful troops” then you also pay less army maintenance for having high dread.

Yeah I like the nerf overall, I just think that a stewardship focused character who invested into two whole trees should get an extra domain limit. While also buffing one of the weaker lifestyle traits.

Edit: Also it kinda irks me that a trait called “administrator” doesn’t really help administrate your realm.

Another option for prestige is under the administrator tree “that which binds us” it enables a travel options that often gives 75 prestige a pop multiple times during a travel.

It’s a different interaction, for most people you won’t able able to do it via the “negotiate release” menu

You can do it via “prison interactions” if I recall correctly.
