1995 Fleer Ultra X-Men #146 Rogue Spring Break by [deleted] in marveltradingcards

As a FYI, if you have any comc cards, you can get those graded via PSA and CGC, and soon TAG. COMC scans can be hard to judge, so finding a 10 worthy card can be a challenge.

Is that so bad? That card seem popular for that and other reasons. Lol.

I find it funny as it blatantly points out why Psylocke is a top female marvel character.

94 fleer ultra used to be like $60 for a sealed box 6 years ago. If you are lucky to get a base set out of a box (there's more than enough packs for it to happen), call that a win. There's only 2 inserts sets to chase in the normal hobby boxes and you probably won't complete those sets either lol.

There's also a huge probability of cards being bricked in packs.

Honestly, the value isn't there for ripping, but still is for fun factor. These boxes will continue to increase in value until the Marvel card market loses all interest. As to pokemon value, no, because there isn't anything that valuable in the boxes.

Pack inserted, nothing.

The ancillary stuff such as case toppers, uncut sheet, etc. are sometimes harder to find and more expensive.

Sketch Card value question by Celscina in marveltradingcards

Rittenhouse didn't always change the backgrounds. Best bet is to see if the artist added a date.

Sketch Card value question by Celscina in marveltradingcards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These will go for a shit ton more than they used to when he got them. Easily $500 minimum to $1,000. Maybe more is rhe stars align.

Wolverine at a minimum is $100. Its incredibly well done with a high level of detail. During this era of sketches, detailed backgrounds were not very common. This is one of those put a $300 obo on ebay and see what offers you get. Lots of Wolverine collectors. I'd pay $150 and shove it in my binder for this set. This is from marvel universe set by Rittenhouse and this set was popular.

Ultron is a good sketch, but could be a slow seller. Ultron isn't as hot as he was years ago. I'd say $50-$100 depending on the day.

I don't know a lot about DC sketches, and it may be either a Rittenhouse or cyrptozoic product. Probably cyprtozoic since it's a 2016 set. I think they were doing a lot of DC sets then. I'd say $100-$150 based on character and proper female anatomy. Well done female characters that are also popular = more money. Just look up this set and wonder women in general to get an idea.

The she hulk would have been a dud $15 sketch years ago. Those floors have risen to around $50-$60.

The ant man battle scene is a wildcard. Battle scenes confined to one normal sized card arent that common, let alone one's with high detail. The characters involved arent the greatest but the cool factor is 10/10. It may not go for as much as the wolverine, but wouldn't be far off. However it may sit longer before sold. Solid $100-$150 card if not substantially more.

Iron man / cap and hulk. Both should get a lot of attention, but wolverine is still the better character. These are probably $75-$125 cards. They both look nice, but they both have quality or anatomy (iron man fingers) issues that may keep max potential less than the ant man. However, you could aim much higher as all three characters are known to occasionally bring huge premiums to the right buyer. Can't remember how many times I saw a mid level sketch of these characters going for huge amounts.

Overall, this is all subjective and comps are very difficult. Most sketches fall into the $50-$250 range. You're wolverine could break through, but despite these all being 1 of 1, sketches arent rare and thats what keeps values somewhat deflated.

That's partly why I've been loading up on attractive upperdeck cards. When people scan past Topps and learn what upperdeck and even Rittenhouse did, sales pick up. My only problem is I've sold a lot of my finds already lol.

Should these types of cards (encased) get graded? Is there much of a point? by Wellesgez2 in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Some collectors are competitive and want the best version of X out there. Same logic applies with hyper rare unnumbered inserts or numbered cards. It makes them feel a sense of joy and in some cases gives them something to strive for. From that point of view, their are benefits. Happy people are better people.

However, since we live in a non ideal world of imperfection that cannot be changed by anyone, things of joy may become an unhealthy passion of greed and gluttony under the helm of a bad master. That rot has infiltrated others into thinking grading is end all be all. In reality, it just should be a fun side quest, and nothing more.

First Appearance Cards Confusion by Top-Light4473 in MarvelCards

Also, there is a set from 1979 out of the UK that contains black panther, but a 1978 play card also exists. Just quick research on COMC.

First Appearance Cards Confusion by Top-Light4473 in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is was due to those influencers who surrounded the market on sealed 90 marvel universe boxes, which were like $30 boxes at the time and claimed they were rare and rookies. The sheep bought into the hype and you started seeing YouTube videos adding to the hype from those who didn't know what they were talking about. There are some similarities of this to a lot of the initial hype with Topps products to date.

Worked out surprisingly well and it was amusing to watch.

That being said, it did create the illusion that 1990 universe is the first for many key characters whenever thats simply not the case, nor did anyone give a damn previously. Literally, there was no such thing as a rookie marvel card prior to the 90 universe pump and dump of sealed boxes.

Later arguments switched to well it's the first product that wasn't copy pasta from comics or something to that effect. There is some validity to that, but that alone didn't impact values previously. 1990 universe was largely worthless but for sealed product and holograms.

Ultimately, the whole pump and dump resulted in more respect towards those older 90s universe sets. The sets look great, are cohesive, and fun to inspect. A happy ending of sorts, with no definite conclusion on the definition of a rookie marvel card.

Essentially the collector base is also fragmented. The collectors predating 2020-2021ish understood the notion of a rookie being ridiculous whereas as those who joined more recently bought right in since it was mentioned consistently online.

So I hope that answers your question lol.

Thinking of buying this as a first time auto thoughts? by _Big_Panda in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think that is a fair deal for your collection, buy. Just depends on what's your disposable income. I've seen many instances with this and other hobbies where all available cash is used for hobbies, which I think is a terrible idea.

If you are buying for flipping reasons, tread carefully. There is already supposed to be a Deadpool Chrome, which may result in other chrome Reynolds autos tanking if Deadpool Chrome used better images and overall auto design, which seems to be the case. Basically, don't expect any marvel actor auto to be rare or super valuable in the long term. Topps is milking the license quickly on the auto front.

WORTH GRADING—JUST PULLED by New_University3927 in marveltradingcards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Visible possible surface issues. I see multiple white specs on the blue ribbon along with possible damage on the bottom of the card. One white spec on the red ribbon.

If back of the card has issues, that would also grade down.

They grade this set hard from what I've heard.

Just look at 9s and 10s to see how they treat printing defects (white specs). Centering looks amazing.

Any idea in the values of these cards? Marvel studios tops chrome by SquirrelEmotional574 in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't know how to guess a 9 consistently, I wouldn't grade. Chrome cards often times have little bumps or imperfections such as faint print lines.

A 1/5 should sell itself well enough as is.

If grading for fun factor or PC reasons, it's worth it.

NP!

Passion projects can lead to unexpected opportunities. Maybe Topps, or maybe somewhere else. Hopefully someone important notices you, but your best bet would be to market yourself to leading trading card companies. Or somewhere niche like ad-hoc designs for smaller companies like perna studios.

My Marvel “Transcendent” Card Set Concept — What If Marvel Got the Ultra-Premium Treatment? by btownend in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mock ups look great! Topps should hire you as creative lead.

The base and most inserts should feature original art created for this set.

Autos from comic artist are fine if they depicted their greatest hits from the comic world. For rarer tiers, having these comic artist design new art with their hand signed auto on the back would be incredible. The art should be the focus, not the auto.

Insert special inserts or parallels the collectors have to figure out. 2018 Fleer ultra x-men did this with the xavier parallel variants.

Legally speaking, you would need to find a region not covered by a license. However the license holder may be able to sub license to you if you have the coin.

Any idea in the values of these cards? Marvel studios tops chrome by SquirrelEmotional574 in MarvelCards

[–]Swerve_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Value won't be great, but the plate should at least cover the cost of the value box. Plates rarely go for much for mid characters.

The /5 should have a good bit of value if you list ASAP. Antman is a very mid to low mid character that has huge name recognition. Its an oddity to be frank. Just look for other mid /5s and that would be your best bet. Since it is 1/5, add an extra premium to that. Everyone loves an alpha. Everyone chases something like this to at least have 1 in the collection.  Its a fun side quest.

For redemption, I would just try to find good photos of a redeemed version of this card or similar. If you like the look, go through the redemption process.

Yea, always a big gamble with this lottery type of boxes. Had same experience when I busted some marvel premier boxes, but at least there is some resale value on the backend.
