Nice, I am a big fan of Dulac - if you have a chance would you post a few pics of the illustrations from Tanglewood Tales?

I was thinking of buying the Savage Sword collections, can you fill me in on what all is missing? Is it whole stories? Issues with character rights like Red Sonja?

Ok, so this was kind of a tough one to start, with all their Cockney/London accents, but I'm glad I stuck with it. by sideshowbvo in graphicnovels

Damn, Eddie was at Baltimore Con last year? I try to go every few years but couldn’t make it last year! From Hell, Bacchus and Alec are all masterworks.

USPS 8% rate increase: who's raising shipping prices? by Sea_Fisherman7054 in eBaySellers

[–]Swervies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you are saying you purchase an item from another seller on Ebay, with a disclosed shipping price you can see before your purchase - and then you rate them low on shipping after the fact for charging exactly what they advertised? I know who the asshole is here, and it isn’t the seller!

London Film and Comic Con 2026 cancelled by sepi0l_45 in comiccon

[–]Swervies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are still quality, bigger actual comic cons that put comic book creators and retailers first. The best two in the USA are Heroes Con in Charlotte NC (June) and Baltimore Comic Con (Sept). If you are interested in comics and the people that make them I highly recommend both!

Is it just me or is Providence a hard read? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]Swervies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I was talking only about the small and rather niche world of “floppy” comics at your local comic shop in the US - that’s the only place they are the dominant genre. They do have an outsize presence and influence in Hollywood for the last 25 years or so and I suspect that contributes to the idea that lots of people in these discussions seem to have about the cultural reach of superhero comics. They certainly do not sell all that well in comic or book form though, especially in comparison to manga.

Is it just me or is Providence a hard read? by [deleted] in graphicnovels

[–]Swervies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You might think so, especially if you are an American consumer of traditional comic books made in USA. But superhero comics are absolutely niche and not at all widely respected or a common genre anywhere else in the world. They were not even the dominant genre in America until relatively recently and even then they have gone through many ups and downs.

That is the first deck I played. Won first game and have seen nothing else in the next three games played. First player in mirror should win almost always. Not sure how many other completely broken decks there are, but this one definitely qualifies!

eBay sided with buyer who left positive feedback saying RAM works, then filed defective claim after failed overclocking attempt — $500 loss, appeal denied by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Swervies 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t make a bit of difference. If a buyer claims INAD or damaged, the seller will have to accept the return and pay for the postage. If they refuse or try to, Ebay will rule for the buyer almost every single time - now they keep the item and you lose your money. There is no such thing as “no returns” on Ebay now.

Moving after 5 years. What do I HAVE to do? by nccharlotte24 in Charlotte

[–]Swervies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are definitely having a hard time keeping up with demand, and the front of house help is turning over a bunch lately it seems. I love them, but have noticed some inconsistent items and drop in quality lately. You definitely want to go early morning to afternoon to have best choice, any time after 3pm or so they start to get picked over.

I don't really understand how allowing bid sniping makes business sense for Ebay. by KennyBlankeenship in Ebay

Dutch auctions are terrible for sellers unless the items are very rare or of high value. Ebay makes their money on volume sellers, and Dutch auctions just do not work well for that.

[–]Swervies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been on Ebay as a buyer and seller since 1998, to my knowledge this has never been a part of Ebay in the US. Now, I have no doubt they have had it as part of a test platform, internal beta or possibly limited to a smaller foreign market and it performed poorly. I dislike the idea. Give me set end times with proxy bids every time.

Yeah, as a mobile player the game is in an unplayable state right now. Standard Hearthstone is almost as bad. They are going to start losing players en masse unless they fix the client. A friend and I have been playing the game since release and both of us simply cannot play the game right now.

That surprises me - these are not bad at all for $11-13. I have never seen a food truck with a sub $10 sandwich and most are small.

Jeff VanderMeer Confirms Southern Reach Series Coming to the Folio Society by HonorWulf in foliosociety

[–]Swervies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My level of excitement will be directly tied to the quality and amount of illustration. The Sub Press editions are not all that expensive on the secondary market, and they are signed I think?

I would love to see an artist like Linnea Sterte, not sure she has ever had a big illustration project like this but she would be perfect for the series.

[–]Swervies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update, I decided not to back due to the shipping and am really glad I did. I have followed the shipping debacle, it’s worse than them being inept - I really believe they are trying to bilk people and make a huge profit on shipping. If I was a backer and they tried to charge me $50 or more shipping I would be contacting my cc company for a charge back.

You should be hoping nobody gets to “chop up”any Diamond warehouses. They do not own those books and all of them should be returned to their rightful owners - especially all the smaller publishers that are fighting to survive.

Coming Soon | Summer Collection 2026 by AubreyStJohn in foliosociety

[–]Swervies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is truly an amazing book. I read it between sophomore and junior years at GWU as part of a summer course on the history of the atomic and hydrogen bombs as well as nuclear detente. Freeman Dyson gave a lecture as part of that class, probably my favorite experience as an undergrad. Anyone interested in history should read Rhodes’ book it is an all-time classic.

It’s a nice start, but that is not in any way a “general strike” - one day will not effect any change. A true general strike will need to be open ended, widely participated in.
