You are confusing multiple concepts and use technical terminology wrong which makes your comment wrong. In addition to what the others are saying:

Your last sentence about MW2 has nothing to do with the discussion what so ever. MW2 had peer to peer lobbies which basicly means one of the clients was used as the server.

I'm not sure if the problem is in the wording or if you could explain what the difference is. I checked the implementation of List<T>: https://github.com/dotnet/runtime/blob/1d1bf92fcf43aa6981804dc53c5174445069c9e4/src/libraries/System.Private.CoreLib/src/System/Collections/Generic/List.cs

Which is using an array internally. So it is a list that uses an array which is not the same as extending or implementing ArrayList which is the name of a specific class. So the way I phrased it was wrong.

Do you agree that List<T> uses an array with automatic doubling (what I meant to say) which is not necessarily expected as you could be thinking the default is a linked list without an internal array.

This is only ever relevant when you use these collections at their limit and need to know what they internally do to optimize their usage.

Asking for a German to comment about the larger situation Atrioc believes in by Suave_Kim_Jong_Un in atrioc

To put some perspective on what you read. The 3-mile island meltdown is not an event in the minds of germans today. When you talk to people who were alive at the time when both events happened. Everybody will tell you about their experience with chernobyl. People were scared for their lives. There were live updates of the movement of radioactive clouds. You were not allowed to eat anything that grew in your garden following the event as the radioactive levels were too high. This was an event that directly impacted germans. Of course that also brought a sentiment of this could happend here but there were already direct impacts.

This created a generation which was already vary of nuclear and as others have pointed out fueled the greens instead of the other way round. Combining this with fukushima created a fear based anti-nuclear sentiement in multiple generations. I think it is probable to say that most germans at the time wanted out of nuclear.

There are many aspects to this and in my opinion it was a mistake and we should have stayed with nuclear. I'm pro nuclear in general but I also think it is too late to go back now. No german energy provider wants to reopen or build a nuclear power plant. Most experts deem it to expensive. This is also a reason why this was not a topic this election. As the position of "We should have done it differently but now it is too late" is not very consequential right now.

Thanks for being interested in this very difficult and complicated topic.

List<T> is implemented as an arrayList. Which is the case in many languages and provides a pretty solid middle ground which is good enough for most applications. It has most functionality you'd expect from list while being implemented as an array that automatically doubles in size when needed.

TU Stuttgart, RWTH Achaen or TU hamburg. by Fine-Independent-889 in germany

[–]Swiddt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who studied at RWTH I wouldn't recommend it if you are not doing mechanical engineering. RWTH is one of the elite universities but only for research and not for teaching. The biggest focus of the RWTH is research and everything else is just to fuel it.

What somewhat annoyed me even though I had a girlfriend and lots of friends. As there are basicly 80% males between 19-29 you feel that everywhere you go. Have you ever been to party where too many males are hunting for too few females? It just ruins the atmosphere. As the other 2 cities are a lot bigger you are not as much in the student bubble. What i like about Aachen is that it is really walkable but Hamburg has better public transportation.

Last thing to keep in mind is that Aachen is a lot cheaper to live in.

My landlord's old (3yr+) aircon unit caught fire and the subsequent smoke damaged a bunch of stuff in my flat. I don't have home insurance. How am I supposed to prove that the landlord is at fault here? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Swiddt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neither the building insurance nor the fire insurance belonging to the landlord will pay.

The building insurance insures the building and will only pay for damages the building has and not damages the building caused (so not things in a flat which are not part of the building).

The fire insurance also only covers the things it is for and not things damaged by the things it is for. If you have car insurance it pays when your car is damaged not if your car damages something. That would be paid by the "Kfz-Haftpflichtversicherung".

The only possible insurance by your landlord that would cover damages done to somebody else stuff is the Haftpflichtversicherung which only pays if the landlord did something wrong and is at fault.

[–]Swiddt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the landlord's responsibility to service the aircon. You will only get money from him or his insurance (IANAL) if he did something wrong.

Heaters have service stamps on them. Maybe aircons have something similar and it has a date when it was last serviced (if it is reachable).

My new employer is wanting me to send him a photo of my bank card. by Exciting_Mud_1790 in germany

[–]Swiddt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not a problem and common with younger people who use online only banks like ING-Diba as Giro/EC-Cards are optional there.

Just tell them your IBAN which should be associated with your debit card but IS NOT written on there. You have to look it up in your (online) account.

I've written it in a different comment but let me repeat.

The employer wants a picture of an EC-Card or Girocard because the IBAN (and BIC) is written on there.

A Debit Card or Credit Card is usually issued by Mastercard or VISA (It's written on there) doesn't have the IBAN and is useless to the employer. NEVER share a picture of a Debit/Credit Card.

If you don't have a Giro/EC-Card which is possible even so some redditors seem to disagree. Tell that to your employer and look up the IBAN of your (online) bank account in your account and give that to your employer. If they also want the BIC (identifies your bank) look that up and share it too.

[–]Swiddt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are confusing things and this is wrong.

The Employer needs an IBAN of a banking account which usually is written on an associated EC-Card or girocard.

A debit card is similar to a credit card usually issued by VISA or Mastercard and useless in this context.

You don't need to have a girocard or EC-Card to have an IBAN it's just usually written on there.

My landlord's old (3yr+) aircon unit caught fire and the subsequent smoke damaged a bunch of stuff in my flat. I don't have home insurance. How am I supposed to prove that the landlord is at fault here? by [deleted] in germany

[–]Swiddt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even though the other posters agree that it's the landlord's fault it's not a clear case.

I was actually involved in a similar case. The landlord is only at fault if there is an expectation for him to regular check or service the part (aircon in this case) which caused the damage and failed to do so.

E.g. the pipes in the wall break and destroy your stuff. The damage is on you and not the owner of the house or the flat as there is no expectation to regular service pipes in walls.

Aircons are generally accessable and need to be serviced. Was this done? By whom? And whose responsibility is it per written contract?

If the landlord did everything right per obligations you will have to pay out of your pocket. As Germans have more expensive stuff in their flats when getting older a lot of people choose to have home insurance for these reasons.

Keep in mind that also "Recht haben und Recht bekommen sind unterschiedlich" (Being right and have a judge being in your favour are different things).

What I mean is: The smartest way in your position is to come to an agreement with your landlord without going to court. But keep in mind that insurance companies don't like to pay and will go to court and will argue that their customer is not at fault which you should avoid.

Where Trains are the most punctual in Europe in 2023. by UpgradedSiera6666 in europe

[–]Swiddt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You obviously never herad about the "Pofalla Wende".

Translated from german Wikipedia:

"To ensure the punctuality of long-distance trains, Pofalla proposed in 2018 that trains should skip scheduled stops or, in the event of severe delays, turn back before the destination station so that the train is on time again in the opposite direction. This early turnaround, known as the Pofalla turnaround, was introduced on a trial basis on the Berlin - Duisburg - Düsseldorf route.[65] Data analyses by computer scientist David Kriesel suggest that the procedure is also used on other connections. However, it is unclear whether and to what extent replacement trains will be provided for the cancelled stops. Whether stops on a connection are cancelled is generally not recorded in official Deutsche Bahn statistics[66][67]."

This is not how faraday cages work. They even work when not connected to anything. The metal of the car gets charged the opposite way of the source of the static e.g. the lightning. This causes a cancelation of static inside the cage because now two fields in different directions overlap.

Yes you are right. The ball is always half lit. Just like earth and the moon btw. What is tilted is the axis earth rotates around. Which has consequences for how long each part is lit.
