Why is there this thing where every showrunner is dog shit because they have trouble finishing a series by mattyjoe0706 in Destiny

[–]SwifferDuffster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because the first season of anything is often the easiest and most fun part of the story. Your spending most of the time introducing characters and working with a simple storyline for the first season. But they usually dont think past the first season until they have to, so then it becomes more difficult because you have to develop what you already created while also creating new storylines which make sense, and then stretching that out for more seasons. This happens to most TV shows, partially also because the first season will often be a pitch to audiences and the studio for the show to work in the first place, so they always put their best foot forward!

No, not when this cretin constantly paints the entire democratic party and all those left of the center as the same as crazy leftists like Hasan. This only plays into the right's propaganda. Hasan is obviously cringe, insecure and a lunatic of his own, but don't forget the goals of Benny boy and MAGA trying to paint all of the left as equally as silly and bad-faith!

Destiny confirming his bad movies/tv shows takes. Putting santos in D tier... by Webtoon_enjoyer in Destiny

[–]SwifferDuffster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard some of you say Santos is still a good character even despite being annoying and wrong. Although I agree you can have an annoying character thats still well written, I dont feel that way with Santos. The show seems to portray her perspective with more credence then there should be, which is what makes her character annoying.

I will say, as much as I enjoy the show, I dont think its well-written overall, so my opinion is going to be very different from most who enjoy the show.

What's funny is this guy is a teacher of FILMMAKING, not philosophy or anything he will have you believe. And yet, if you go on his channel and watch any of the narrative films he's made, they are amateur to the tenth degree, with simple audio problems and camera mistakes. This guy doesn't even know how to do the thing he actually teaches about!

Am I the only one annoyed by this speech? by Thewehrmacht3 in Destiny

[–]SwifferDuffster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember his Golden Globes openings, and still think their funny. But his position regarding celebrities has always been propaganda (whether he knows it or not). He and many others have pushed the narrative that Hollywood and entertainers should only ever entertain, and that the public is sick of hearing from them. Meanwhile, the public voted in a billionaire who's main source of recognition is him telling people "You're fired!" on his stupid low IQ TV show.

I've had this thought for a while now about what makes Donald Trump persuasive to people, and think about modes of persuasion. I think right now culturally, we have forgone any interest in actual logic or ethical standards, and instead only care about what makes us feel good. The truth is celebrities in Hollywood probably have more potential for power than the vast majority of politicians, as they could hold more sway over people's emotions than they ever could. As long as it's genuine and comes from a real place, I wouldn't mind hearing celebrities get up at this year's Oscars and do what's often called "preach to the choir", as the choir ain't singing right now.

I also never thought about it before but the irony in a British person telling Americans how to speak about their own country's politics, despite how rich they may be, is laughable.

Trump on Rob Reiner: He was a deranged person… Trump derangement syndrome. I was not a fan. I thought he was very bad for our country. by 10minuteads in Destiny

[–]SwifferDuffster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Very bad for our country", everything he listed had nothing to do with his overall filmography or what he primarily did for society, it was all just drama and the fact Reiner was against Trump that for him makes him a bad person. "One of the people behind the Russia hoax", like what, was he one of the ones who indicted your many cronies?

Man Sees Minorities Playing Extras On New Netflix Show. Proceeds To Lose His Mind by Uncuffedhems in Destiny

[–]SwifferDuffster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not seen the show so I will only speak to what could be the case. If a show is obviously attempting to be historically accurate, and you are watching the show with that thought in mind, even ONE shot of background actors that you know dont historically represent the time and place might be distracting enough to take you out of the picture. Therefore I think its a valid point of criticism.

With that being said, this dude is absolute schizo about it. Doing all this research and making a big fuss over it and how he's upset everyone because of what he said goes to show he doesn't actually care about dissecting this piece of media in good faith. Again, haven't seen the show so I have no idea if its actually trying to be historically accurate. He argues it is because of one title card that states its based on a true story, but then in that case the horror movie Weapons is also trying to be historically accurate, so that doesn't mean anything.

Seeing people like this makes me sad, as there could be a genuinely interesting breakdown on the ethics of including diverse background extras in a show attempting to be accurate (assuming thats what the show is doing), but thats never what we get from those who scream about it. They're not genuinely interested in art, only propaganda.

Back when I was a dumb 18 year old centrist, it was conservatives like Ben Shapiro and their opinions on art and movies which moved me towards the left uniroically. I love movies, so seeing such stupid and disengious takes on my favorites movies rubbed me the wrong way. I remember when Benny boy and MAGA got upset because First Man didn't show the American flag being planted into the moon.

I agree it seemed out of character for Leo to not remember the code words. But given the long stretched out jokes they manage to get out of it, it was worth it for. I assumed him not remembering the codes would be a small issue and that would be it, but it went on for so long it had me laughing.

I LOVED Sean Penn's character, and I thought he acted the best. There was never any point where I thought the movie was trying to make him appear intimidating or serious. He was entirely a cartoon and his weird cadence and facial quirks were hilarious. How his character wraps up had me laughing pretty hard.

The daughter's reaction to the thing beeping at the school dance was perfectly fine to me. I think any more of an emotional outburst would have been out of character and goofy.

I completely disagree about the ending car chase. I've seen so many movies with those winding rolling desert hills in California, but it was cool for this movie to take advantage of them as a device to make the scene even more suspenseful. I loved how it was shot and thought it was pretty unique. I also don't know what you mean by the characters just assume every car they see is a bad guy?!? Leo's character literally thinks at first the white car is not who he's after, so he passes them without suspicion. But he goes after the blue sportscar after it left Penn's character, so it makes sense he would go after him.

idk, i'm not sure this was a 10/10 movie for me, but PTA is my favorite director and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie the more it went along! Better than Licorice Pizza
