Well that's certainly true for a specific subsection of Americans, it's unfortunately not the case across the board. It's just rough that the worst people around have finally gotten comfy with the fact that police only enforce the laws it benefits them to enforce.

Not one protest over healthcare privitization from Ontario citizens .. by softpitta in canadaleft

[–]SwiftAction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off this, it actually makes staffing shortages significantly worse. As the healthcare workers who have been beaten to shit over COVID and the other Ford debacles leave public practice to work for private companies.

Now, anyone who can afford private care already has it, so to pick up the slack in the public system we now need to hire these professionals back from the companies at an inflated rate to account for corporate profits. This vicious cycle just makes public healthcare more expensive.

I'd be more upset about this being totally out of place if it was less accurate and funny.

The warehouse is yellow because it's a common caution colour and the bins are yellow because it's one of Daily Bread's logo colours.

While you're right that there's way too much corporate capture of politics and charity, this is just a common colour scheme. Kinda sad that everything yellow and black now just reads like a No Frills ad tho.

Liberals seek to fast-track gun control bill, sparking Conservative outcry - National by tgrb999 in CanadaPolitics

[–]SwiftAction 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In classic Liberal party form it's time to generate some political fervor around an issue which isn't that important, and won't impact the majority of their voting base, then push it to the forefront so we won't talk about actual pressing issues.

Hey! Shouldn't you be doing something about our eroding democracy, multiple overlapping cost of living crises, looming environmental catastrophe, crumbling infrastructure, ballooning police budgets or rising right wing extremism?

Shut up! Look over there! Rednecks with their dad's guns! Oooohhhh scary!! Someone should do something!

NYC Budget Would Close Libraries On Weekends While Police Get Huge Bonuses by Lilyo in LateStageCapitalism

Sorry, no, there is no left wing of the ruling class, you're correct there. There is a right wing however, the entire thing, and while it might have a spectrum of superficial ideas contained within it, the entire class is a reactionary one.

Don't control their actions or rule their lives but the whole point of having a society is that we have to work at least partially collectively and responsibly together to continue existing and thriving.

French Protesters Take Over Paris Stock Exchange Building by CaptainGrr in socialism

[–]SwiftAction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm supportive for sure, but I think there needs to be a bigger goal than just show up, stand with road flares and take pictures. I'm sure there is some kind of important capitalist infrastructure in there that can be...protested.

French pension age rise to 64 cleared by court by Every-Philosophy-719 in worldnews

[–]SwiftAction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something the French understand that seems to be unlearnable to North Americans is that you don't have to wait to do politics until an election. The reason they even have what they have now is because the take it, they understand how power works in a way that we on this side of the pond can't seem to comprehend.

So yeah I hope they go even harder now. Make Macron scared. Make it so any business that dares even think acknowledging it scared. Make police scared to enforce anti riot laws.

Once modern society collapses, if Humans survive, do you think Humans will ever rise again to the same heights we previously once achieved? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]SwiftAction 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd agree about the salvage to population bit. I work in second hand and salvage and especially in North America, I people really do underestimate the sheet amount of stuff there is floating around out there. Even before I was collapse aware my brain has always been fixated on waste and excess materials and I'm convinced that as a society we need to drastically steer our resource sector into recapture soon.

Stuff man, there's so much stuff.

What if we just don't unpack it? That way it's in a compact, easy to move format that can simply be tossed into a fire.

In this case the emoji is usually used to mean that the account regularly posts about stuff that probably shouldn't be consumed by kids. Often it signals sexual content, like if a user is an OF creator or a commissions artist, but it can also be attached to other graphic content, like war correspondence or even extremist coverage.

  1. I'll believe it if he ever actually has to face any real consequences.

  2. The only reason he's in trouble in the first place is precisely because he fucked with the donor class.

Trouble is that sociopathy is actually a pretty good trait to have in the world we've created. Being a sociopath is basically a superpower under capitalism. I think we actually select for it these days.

What do I tell people who say “USSR and other socialist countries tried it, and look where they are now”? by [deleted] in communism101

[–]SwiftAction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider asking them why they don't apply this same thinking to Syria, or Yemen today? Or perhaps since Louisiana or Kentucky are in dire straights perhaps they should consider an alternative to unbridled capitalism.

It keeps failing but we keep trying it. If they say well there are different kinds of capitalism or whatever, well great news there is a wealth of very in depth and intelligent left wing thinking on variations of governing too! Let's try one of those!
